This happened to me when Pope Francis visited 113th street and 2nd Avenue, New York. I live on 112th st and 2nd. I woke up on a Sunday , went outside and saw massive crowds, NYPD and barricades. Didn't know what was going on. Got my sandwich and tried go back to my apartment. NYPD refused to let me through- had to wait for the Pope to leave before I could go home.

It was pretty tense when Obama came to Newark, New Jersey in the fall of 2015. Secret Service was EVERYWHERE! Folks lined up downtown to see him, the crowd was huge.

That's good to use sand trucks to protect him. In the country that I live in they used to use public transport buses to block road from suicide bomb attacks, when VIP goes from one place to another within the capital city, yeah you guessed it "with real life people inside the buses". And that was not for president but the Secretary of defense.

yeshudas david Actually it does protect if there is huge blast like say 1000 kg of C4 explosive. The terrorist here used 4 separate trucks filled with C4 (1000 kg) and ball bearings. 3 of those got caught. One they used to target the navy which killed about 130 officers. If there's large explosion these sand filled trucks will be of high use and it will project the VIP.

Went to DC with my mom when i was like 16. Was standing by myself out front of the native american museum and suddenly like 12 police cars went by, then a bunch of motorcycles then about 20 suvs and a limo. As the limo went by, I waved, the extremely dark tinted window suddenly became see thru and there was obama waving at me

If he just moved around in a normal Corola without having all these police and security vehicles around him, this would be way more dangerous because the people who really wanted to attack him would know how he is travelling and they would get a better possibility to attack.

Y all should go check out Justin PM of Canada's motorcade, they don't bloc intersections, they don't have parameters setup, infact people (In a parade) are standing within 10 feet of the PM. Much different attitude in Canada!

Surely would me more convenient to put him in the back of an unmarked van, take him to a disclosed location where he changes car to a blacked out SUV and continues his journey, then have unmarked surveillance cars keep there distance but ready with a CAT team to strike when ever needed. Or when entering NY fly via a civilian helicopter equipped with counter measures and land on a roof.
