Randy, can you please make a video explaining the difference between a shaky head and ned rig and when to fish them?

SH is kind of like a power ned. You can swim or glide a SH to the bottom but generally it's a light bottom contact bait.

Does a Neko Rig fit into the equation? I tend to think of a NR as kind of a finesse version of a SH.@@rustyshacklfur2637

David Dudley's Perfection Shakey head is the only one to use. It draws strikes when others don't. The only one that stands up consistently.

Last spring I was catching spots on a 6” Zoom shakey head in 12-18’ ft of water at Watts Bar. They were set up on any lay down that was on a 45 degree angle into the water. It was amazing. Find that particular scenario and find the fish. Hope to do it again next month.

In the spring time, me and my partner have always painted our jig heads blood red and it made a huge difference in catch rates. We always use 1/4" oz and zero worms in PB&J on Table Rock and similar lakes... Try it!

Hey Randy I have those gami Shakey heads in the 1/16 oz excellent jighead very rarely do I get snagged and lose them. I like the recessed line tie and the hook.

I throw mine on 20# test.Im fishing 1/4 on 7.5 flipping stick.Believe me guys the heavy line slows the fall.A once you’re on the bottom you’re fine. That heavy line jumps harder when a fish bites!Trial and error for me.Ive caught them on light tackle like Randy’s saying but lose to many because ya gotta play em to much.Try a brush hog on the shakey head. Its my go to!👍🏼👍🏼

We followed all the recommendations here and came up with 2 small males. Others had a much better day. Water temp was 56-60. Visib was 2-4 ft. Seems like the fish were elsewhere, in other creeks.

Good video sir. Did you happen to see Takahiro Omori fished the RedCrest fishing a Chatterbait, fishing for largemouth earning a fourth place finish. Man way more fun and impressive watching his casting skill as he methodically worked the banks. His skipping skills are not for the faint of heart. Dude was like the "Ronco La Machine". He beat out 46 dudes out of a field of 50. I few of the guys in the final top ten group did not use or minimally used FFS too.

Can you still fish them in small lakes and ponds that are completely grassed over on the bottom? I am in Florida and unless there is constant current or the place is being heavily maintained, there is at least three or four feet of thick vegetation on the bottom and most weighted rigs just get stuck in it.

Randy can you please explain why it’s preferred to use such light line on spinning rods? Or finesse techniques? If fluro is “invisible” why is it important?

Maybe where you live you can get away with it. But I'd love to see you pitch a shakyhead into cover on lake Fork or Palestine with 10# line and get the fish out of the cover. Good luck.

He used to use or still does use the Davis baits shaky head Aaron Martens designed. The tricky head is a Shin Fukae design and IMO has the best hookup ratio of any Shakey head

I rarely ever pick up a shaky head in the spring. When I do it is usually a very specific clay bank pattern and spotted bass are involved. 🤷‍♂️

Charlie Brewer's Spider Slider heads are hands down the best heads for this technique. I still prefer that thin, light wire BRONZE hook, too. It penetrates FASTER than the black nickel hook of the Spider Slider PRO head, plus, it FLEXES, and doesn't pop out of their mouth, which is important with huge spotted bass. A Zoom finesse worm on that slow, diagonal fall is an absolute killer on huge spotted bass here on the Lower Coosa River. It has accounted for hundreds of spots between 4 and 7lbs for me. I've had days of 300+ bites, landing as many as a hundred at times...on PUBLIC water. I fished with Charlie Brewer's right hand man 30 years ago. He told me the keys to Slider fishing are: 1) 6lb line. 6lb line gives you much more natural action and more bites. Period. 2) a ⅛ or ¹/¹⁶oz head. The secret is in the FALL; you're not trying to feel bottom. And 3) His exact words to me were: "Just throw it up on that bluff wall and let it fall 'til he's got it in his mouth". That's it! As simple as fishing gets. You can go crazy with colors but, over the years, I've discovered that JUNEBUG, GREEN PUMPKIN, or SMOKE PURPLE are all you really need. If they're not really eating one of these colors, they'll definitely be eating another.
