It's funny to see all the negative comments. I bought this because it was different and it's really grown on me, regularly beating out other knives for space in my pocket because at the end of the day, my 940 or PM2 might be better EDCs but they are also boring. Now, if only Kizer would follow suit and make a mini-Megatherium :P

Spyderco is probably my favorite all around knife company. They have an aversion to sharpening choils which should have changed long ago.

I don't know why people doesn't like this knife, I just bought it today and I'm loving it ! I'd say this knife is suitable for self defense instead of working knife ... just like my Yujimbo ...

I’m a sucker for polished g10. I felt they should have made the blade thinner and in turn the body thinner.

Excellent review. The details on this knife are just fantastic. The big hump, the weight, and slightly too thick blade stock keep me from buying one. Just great looking bolster/g10 combo.

Not a fan of the pocket clip holes in the bolster. It’s a niche piece, kudos to Spyderco for making it. And doing it well.

I love both Vallotton Sub Hilts. I also appreciate the highly polished G-10. I do not, however, concede to your well intentioned concerns regarding wet hands, or the perilous Vaseline factory. Nor could I validate your water issue concerns with polished G-10 handles; it appears to correlate strongly to hand strength. I did not test the Vaseline factory assumption, so I cannot say for certain that the same supposition holds true--sorry Nick, it will have to remain a slippery subject. In the meantime, when you allude to your “relatively small hands” in conjunction to a given knife, perhaps if you were to include “weak”, it will help clarify to the listener that the knife in consideration is not necessarily annoyingly insubstantial in size or weight. At some point, at least for myself, the arc of a reduction of ounces intersects at the slope of cheap. Ah-ite?

I just ordered one a few days ago from Knifecenter as well as the Mantra 2 and the Advocate think the other one was named. I might order the Q Ball too I have wanted one for a while that is another one that is discontinued. I always order at least one Spyderco, ZT, and Benchmade when they have runs of discontinued models. I could never see paying full price on that Q Ball or really most VG10 Spyderco knives which most the time see outrageously priced for G10 and VG10 which most are but I think its $113 now on clearance which is about what I think it should have cost normal price. I paid I think $125 for this Lil Subhilt. I also ordered a Kershaw Launch 10 from SMKW yesterday had them $67 shipped. Hadn't ordered a knife in a few months and saw these sales I couldn't pass up. Guess I been buying up chainsaws all summer instead of knives lol bought 5 chainsaws the past couple months to go with all the other saws I already have.

Got the chance to pick one of these up for $160. Gotta say, it's large and excessive, but I do love it. I already own a bunch of knives that fit the EDC role in my life. I wanted this as more of a Spyderco showpiece.

I could overlook all of those bads and uglies if not for the huge lump on the back of the blade. It just wrecks the otherwise excellent lines of the knife.

I think it would have been a better knife if the spine of the blade reached from the top of the “hump” to the tip of the blade, making it a more leafy shaped blade that they could put a taller, thinner grind on. And of course used a choil.

The gigantic hole takes this from gentleman folder territory to... what the hell is up with that thing? It will catch peoples' attention, but not necessarily in a good way.

Classic, for us collecting 30 years or more the appeal is there. Heavy? ...at 5 ounces?...if you say so.

What? they neutered it? omg! I actually like the bigger more bizarre Spyderco designs. They are one company that can't be blamed for copying. It could be S35VN or some other improved steel for the price.

Nick the Lil`Subhilt Vallotton is a ugly knife, overpriced and overweight due to all this negatives and I cannot recommend this knife to anyone.
