Thanks my man I appreciate that. I'll admit to finding the whole "m43 is dead" thing incredibly frustrating. Certain 'KZfaqrs' (mentioning no names!) have a lot to answer for if you ask me. The entire argument is flawed. Whenever I come across it now, I counter it with a simple question; Give me one single example of a full frame camera, that can shoot internal 5.8K open gate up to 60p, 4K DCI up to 120p, and 240/300p in 1080p, all in 10 bit with 13+ stops of DR, but no recording limits, no cropping in on the censor between settings, no overheating, and all for just £2K. Just one example... Needless to say, they can't, because its the smaller sensor that makes that combination of features, at that price point, possible. And that's without even mentioning internal ProRes, external RAW output, the IBIS, and all the rest of it. It really is quite silly. They're different tools for different jobs. I could switch to full frame tomorrow if I wanted to. But I don't. So there you go.

@@RoweFilms Here's another argument, that you can throw in: and an IBIS systems, that doesn't have common issues with cracked IBIS hinges :) Panasonic has, in fairness, probably the best working IBIS out there, especially on the M43 cameras.

Thanks! I'm not sure how it would effect anamorphic glass or if it would cause anything weird to go on, as I haven't tried it or had a chance to look into it yet. As far as I can see, provided there's nothing protruding from the rear element of the lens, as there is with some anamorphic lenses, it should work fine.

Amazing footage!! You boost my confidence to keep on using m43 system. I’m curious about wether you experienced the light streaking on the gh6. In your video, I notice that seems like you used a flare effect to hide the streak on a car headlights shot. Please forgive me if I’m guessing wrong.
@RoweFilms
@RoweFilms Жыл бұрын
Thanks. Have confidence in your gear. It’s amazing! No, I’ve not personally experienced the reported streaking, at all. So I really can’t comment on it when I’ve not seen it myself. The headlight streaks are anamorphic lens flares, from shooting with anamorphic lenses. As I say in this video, I’ve not used any overlays or assets in the piece. Everything you see in the film is as it was, captured totally in camera

Thank you 👍🏻 I’ve not seen any of the reported streaking whatsoever. Zero. And I’ve shot with the camera in all sorts of conditions. Plenty of contrasty backlighting in this piece and no sign of it whatsoever. So at this point, I’m genuinely starting to wonder what all the fuss is about, and what people are doing to be experiencing it. It’s honestly quite bizarre.

Great stuff. Im relatively new to film making....but ive invested in gh6 and dual IS2 lens....for my wilderness filming. Being wilderness tho....using a ninja V is sorta inpractable for bulk and battery usage....so im gonna try just use prores 422/ 422 HQ. Any thoughts on quality difference b/w 422 and RAW? Cheers :)
@RoweFilms
@RoweFilms Жыл бұрын
Depends on what you mean by ‘quality’. Standard ProRes could well be enough for anyone, and pretty much any project. It depends what you need. Shooting RAW doesn’t necessarily mean better ‘quality’ or better results. PR RAW does have benefits however, with a lot more data and information under the hood. It has more latitude, and being 12 bit the image can be pushed further. Not to mention the benefit of being able to change ISO and WB in post.

No such thing when shooting ProRes RAW mate as it’s recording the linear sensor output. Picture profiles and gamma curves such as log are something that’s baked in by the camera, but that’s bypassed when shooting RAW.

All things considered I'm not sure that set up would allow you to produce quite the same visuals as the brand new GH6 shooting 12 bit ProRes RAW, but fair play if you're getting close. They're all tools at the end of the day and other things such as story and lighting matter more 👍

You shoot 120fps in the UK?
@RoweFilms
@RoweFilms Жыл бұрын
Yep. The old NTSC vs PAL thing is a hang up from times gone by, the days of analog TV. It really doesn’t matter anymore. Just be sure to use flicker free shutter speeds. Many Hollywood movies are shot in the UK, at 24/23.98 fps. It’s not unusual.
@markshirley01
@markshirley01 Жыл бұрын
@@RoweFilms when you say 'flicker free shutter speeds' do you mean just crank the shutter up or down until the flicker goes.
@RoweFilms
@RoweFilms Жыл бұрын
@@markshirley01 no, there’s shutter angles/speeds to use which won’t give flickering under artificial light. For example shooting at 24p in a 50hz country like the UK, you use 172.8 degrees instead of 180d. This will help you out to begin with but eventually you remember them all www.red.com/flicker-free-video
