I just can't believe the number of recording artists who were recording laura Nyro songs well of course I just found about her last summer 2020 well anyway Marva really did her take on these amazing vocals .

This was written by Laura Nyro, who was a great singer and songwriter in her own right. There's also the hit version by The Fifth Dimension. They're all great but Laura's original must be heard!!! It's beautiful!

It's on two, Joe- Sassafras and Moonshine the songs of Laura Nyro on ACE and 500 Volts of Stax Unreleased Tracks from the Golden Era of Soul. It was originally cut for one of the Staples albums but Stax didn't release it. It rocks!!

It's on a CD called Sassafrass and Moonshine: the Songs Of Laura Nyro. Lots of other great Nyro songs by other artists on there, too.

This version is better than the Fifth Demension version because the Staple Singers had more grit and soul than the Fifth Dimension, and that works better for this song.

Laura Nyro would sometimes create words to convey a certain mood in her songs. Surry means something like C'mon down. Surry has apparently now become part of 21st Century slang. Another word she created was Tendaberry, for her LP and title song 'New York Tendaberry'.
