Apart from the tent, it's pretty easy to get by as a free player. PA gives out free stuff quite often like maids and inventory expansion as well as pets and costumes. Also the Value Pack and weights as well as character slots can be bought from the loyalty shop without paying irl money.

Not to be a total dick, but if you're trying to live as a content creator you have a responsibility to make sure the information you're passing around is accurate. Its irresponsible to play the game for an hour, look up some other opinions about the game and then present that information as though you are an authority. Your integrity as a reviewer is your sole lifeline and really the main currency on offer here, so take it seriously.

I was just going to comment something like this, but it looks like everyone beat me to it. He came at this game from a first impressions standpoint and BDO is not the type of game you can expect to really get and understand until much much later. An example of this is how he praises the number of different classes so much. But, in reality, since everything is character/ class specific and not account bound, it makes switching to the fun newest class a serious monetary endeavor, not to mention the grind/ time investment. But that is on his pros list.

Totaly agree it takes so long to get into everything this game can offer. Once you get into everything there isn't a game that can compare to it. It took me like atleast half a year to get into most important stuff and even now after more than 2 years playing everyday there are parts of the game I haven't even touched since I love PVP and the Node war system is a blast having so many ppl coordinating to try to win a zone. Most of the stuff he said in the video I agree some things aren't totaly correct and is missing a lot of stuff you can do in BDO. It takes a while to get into PVP but with some new systems it helps a lot compared to few months back. Best advice for new players go through main story to lvl like around 60 maybe with some grinding mobs on the side. Join a guild even before hitting lvl 60 if you want. So many people can help with so many things and you will be able to progress faster and more efficently. I love that BDO gives players so many events and stuff that it can help new players so damn much. I can get a lot of money just by doing some easy events and not grind for the whole week with so many other ways to get money for your gear :).

But how much time to you spend daily for this game? I'm pretty sure if you don't pay anything at all you have to put insane amount of hours a day into it to get anything. If you don't do that it will take years to get anything substantial in the game.
@MrKerbon

@@kaen4299 If you play wisely, play 1 hour a day it is possible to reach the top 1% of players in a year. Thank god this game has only a few not necessary daily hings you can do. So unlike some other titles you can choose when you want to progress. I take a break from the game for days or weeks and can catch up by spending my weekend, unlike games like Lost Ark, where you have to login daily. Also the game is more about the journey and exploring, there is a lot of gear capped pvp that you can join fast, where you have an even playing field, just the class balancing is like in most games not that good. But they often change things and update old classes.

Dosent matter how hard he grinded cause everyone can get there at their own pace. The thing i like the most about bdo is that im not "forced" to do anything. i can grind when i want to, i can lifeskill when i want to, i can pvp when i want to. Not like Lost ark for example where i felt forced to do dailies and weekly raids or im falling behind.. Also there's alot of equalizied pvp modes in terms of nodewars (gVg) or Arena of solare (ranked 3v3 pvp) all equalizied gear given to everyone for free btw

If you open world game just to explore, this is a game for you. The world is huge and fun to discover new things. When it comes to premiums. Great vid! One mistake - the only thing that you cannot get without donating - tent. Everything else you can buy for in-game money(silver) from auction from other players, and it doesn't cost that much. For example "monthly subscription" could be bought for 2h of grinding on mid-level spots. The only thing you are missing if not donating - some time. There are a lot of F2P players, that haven't donated at all. You can reach exactly the same gearscore and placing in the game as someone who donates. Even if you spent $100k in the game, good F2P player will still be able to kill you in 1v1 PVP pretty easy.

I actually got this game for free, they give free stuffs from time to time like costume and value pack depending on the event.. never spend a dime and I think my progress is not that bad. It's about rng and hardcore grinding, doesn't matter how much you pay, if you have a life outside then you'll have a slower progress unless you got rng carried.. The open pvp is not a concern for newbies specially if ur on a guild bcuz pepos won't just pk you for no reason, there's a pvp server for that.. that's base on my experience of course maybe different from other regions.. and if you got bored or burned out you can always come back after a month and they'll give u a returnee reward.

2:26 There are 48 classes as awakening and succession are usually considered separate classes 9:05 You can customize the UI entirely to your liking by clicking the 'edit UI' button at the top on the Esc menu. You can also remove things like the camera shake during battle in the settings and it's highly recommended to do so. 13:05 The game is pretty much tutorial until you reach lv60 and finish the story up to Valencia. Once you start doing areas like the Elvia Realm and PvP you have to use full combos. Also as a grinder MMO you goal is to kill mobs as quickly as possible to increase loot gains. 13:19 Knowledge has no affect on damage to enemies. It serves as a way to increase your innate drop rate buff or the rate at which rarer items drop when you kill mobs. Each grade C-S give a different amount of points and once you hit a point threshold you gain a higher drop rate bonus. 14:01 For skills you don't have to put them on a hot bar (some exceptions) as you use a key combo to use them. Clicking on the little arrows on each of the skill cards increase or decrease the skills level depending on which you click. Exiting the skill menu should automatically save any changes you made. Learning or increasing the level of skills require skill point which you obtain by gather skill EXP when you kill mobs. 18:55 P2W player here, The only thing you really need to get in the pearl shop if you intend to play seriously are, Value Pack, Naphart Campsite and the lifeskill costumes, everything else is entirely optional and in a lot of cases you can get them for free or with in game silver from the player market (CM). The only time you will really have an issue with the open PvP is if you go or try to grind at the late/end game spots and that's the only time I have any trouble with it. But even then there is this feature called marni realm which gives you an isolated instance of the area for you to grind privately away from other players for 1 hour per day. All the PvP heavy areas have one of these zones. I'd also like to mention the only way to "buy gear" in the pearl store is to spend truly ludicrous amounts of money on outfits to break down for cron stones. Only the richest streamers and ppl with high income can really do that though so I tend to see it as a non issue. Even with spending the amount I do on this game I certainly can't afford to go that route. Once you hit 301k+ it doesn't matter if you a Elon Musk spender or not it won't give you an edge in PvP. I'm only 279k and only ever have an issue with PvP when I go to the mainstream heavily contested grind zones like Orcs. I think saying stay away from the game because of this is unfair to game as it's no where near as bad as you make out, of course that could just be because you haven't spent enough time to get to the end game content. I would like to note I do not usually participate in the PvP side of the game due to being disabled and thus being at a major disadvantage in this particular game, I do however do a lot of PvE and Lifeskill grinding. The game often has free to play weekend and such where you can pick up the game for free and if you reach, I think it's level 50, you can keep the game. Level 50 can be obtained in about 15 minutes if you just ask in server chat, usually someone will be happy to let you leech some exp. The community is fairly chill for the most part and some guilds like my own are entirely geared towards new or returning players and are very welcoming and patient with players just starting out. Though I do sometimes forget newer players don't know all the lingo causing them to have big '?' in chat.

@@eliconoclastadigital Have to agree. Returning player, and have to say, though it is a grind-fest, when you find the class for you it can become the ultimate power fantasy. I play on console and can say that the UI isn't really a huge problem when you understand which menu means what and why. I have only bought a couple things in the pearl shop, mostly cosmetic or life skill related, but have learned that MOST everything can be rewarded in game through quest or heavily invested life-skilling. This all said, BDO is not for everyone, and though I'm pretty new to the game, I can see how easy it is to get wrapped up in the combat and overwhelmed by the sheer amount of things there are to do in the world of the game. It's worth a look. And if you feel like it's too much......look up a guide. I get you shouldn't have to...but sometimes its worth a bit of extra work.

So you don't need to buy several pets any longer? I recall several years ago there were a few mandatory purchases, pets being one since they auto looted corpses for you (you just keep killing) and the also had a timer before they de summoned, so you'd need more pets the longer you grinded before their summon timer resets.
@toshiroyamada2443

@@Mist261The game has been pretty generous with giving out free pets, you can also pre-order pets on the CM and depending on your region they will be filled fairly quickly. The costumes can also be bought with silver and its also given for free in a lot of seasons stuff too. The pay to win is no longer as bad as it used to be. You simply need to grind hard with or without money, a bit more without money due to buffs but you still need to get things yourself. Most of the things that you buy now are for convenience.

Started playing the game during 2020 with 2 friends. Hopped on as a seasonal character. Backed then without the help of guild mates I was completely lost on what to do in this game given its a sandbox mmo. The only thing that was keeping me from playing the game then was the combat system. Progression wise I would say it’s relatively easy now to progress as compared to many years back. Full PEN tuvala at the end of the season plus a seasonal accessory of your choice puts you at 250ap+ . That well enough to grind minimally 300-400m per hour. Centaurs can get you 600m per hour easily if you are playing a mobile class and learn the proper rotation. Orcs camp which is somewhat considered a meta end game grind zone nets average players about 650m per hour. If you really are motivated to progress in this game it shouldn’t be too hard with the right knowledge on what you should be doing. Few years ago I believe that getting 269ap was the soft cap, but right now 281ap or even 289ap I believe is the new “soft cap”. Imchoice a youtuber made a video about reaching 700gs in a couple of months. I do not believe this is achievable by new players or any average players given he’s a veteran players who knows what he’s doing and he spends like 8 hours or more a day playing the game l. But if you are willing to spend 2 hours a day grinding productively achieving a similar gs to his is doable in less than a year. I’m playing at a SEA sever with very limited severs to grind in, the only problem I face is contested spots during peak hours. I grind 2 hours a day ( 1 hour marni realm ) and make about 1.4b a day. This is at a comfortable pace for my own gear progression. Monetisation wise the game has changed a lot during the years. You don’t really need to pay to progress. What I believe is more important is knowing what you’re doing and spending time on the game. Apart from the value Kama and old moon buff which they give out so frequently as login rewards, only useful item to get in the pearl shop is the tent, which can then be further discounted from coupons. Pets wise you realistically only need one tier 5 pet and four tier 3 pet which is so easy to get given the amount of free pets BDO gives to you. Spending money in game is really optional in my opinion. If you have a money and you enjoy the game go ahead spend by all means. I personally spent about a thousand maybe a little more in this game, and sometimes I don’t even know what to get with the extra pearls. If you want to be a mmo whale and spend money to progress in your gs I don’t really find that you are enjoying the game anymore, due to the lack of sense of progression. As many people say BDO is a marathon not a sprint. So in conclusion I feel the game has gotten a lot better throughout the years. I am enjoying the game now more than ever. Knowledge of game and spending time in game > spending real life money in game. What can I say you either really love or really hate this game there is no in between.

I just started my season character in BDO. I love the combat. I went guardian and I literally feel like bad ass barbarian. I love her skills are called torso ripper, avalanche strike, etc it just adds to feel of the barbarian aspect and using strike that rends ground up and throws huge chucks of rocks at mobs is just sweet looking. She hits hard but is slow which I am ok with. This games graphics are amazing even by today's standards. I love the music too. Besides Diablo 3 this game really made me feel like powerful barbarian warrioress. I do agree that it is huge monetization it would not say it is full pay to win. It has things that help you get to level your gear, but you cannot just straight buy gear. You have to learn the class and level, so it doesn't take away from those who have already worked hard. I watch chat and have to say not sure about community. I am not going to say toxic, but chat is well crazy lol. I am not sure how they are with new players since I am so new, I cannot make an assessment. This game does overwhelm you at start. I am still lost on the whole hiring worker, contribution points, using life skills, etc. But I don't think that is minus. I think they have a very robust and in-depth crafting, trading and life skills system. It is just overwhelming. I am not sure, but I hope there are guides to assist with this. While the story isn't top notch, the voice overs are great, but I do agree it is hard to really attach to story when you can by accident just keep hitting r and then miss something and with the whole overwhelming thing ie too much is not always good. It can be a lot for new player to take in.

The visuals, the sound design, the immersion into the sandbox nature of this game. I fell in love with this game since release, for the simple reason that in the areas it excels in, it truly has no equal. Crank up the graphics to max, turn off the UI using the keyboard shortcut and sail around on the ship you'd spent the past month for to build, only then you'll truly understand what I mean. The combat, the fluidity, I've been searching since then, nothing comes even close, Lost Ark might be the closest in fluidity, though it has a top-down view and no button-combos. Vindictus was the only game close to the type of combat system BDO has, and it's an instanced-battle room game, not the giant open world BDO has. The PVP in this game is so intricate, you can spend 3h watching an introductory video to your classes PVP to get the learning ropes of how it might function. Class mastery is a big thing. Or it would be, if it wasn't for the sad sad reality of monetization. I've spent probably a total of around 800 Bucks in online-game transactions over the past 10 years, I ain't proud of it but there it is. About 500+ of those dollars went straight into BDO, because I loved this game so. goddamn. much. Not for buying skins and other "whaling" as you'd call it to progress you characters power directly, I'm usually a very reserved spender. I just bought the "take away the inconvenience" items one by one, so I could experience the game with as little pebbles inside the gears as possible. Spending half a thousand on an online game is absolute insanity, I'd say so myself, I would never do that, but I did. I enjoyed the ever living f*ck out of this game. I have somewhere close to 10k hours in this game. I still show up in the ranked list for life skills whenever I log in occasionally, even though I haven't played, even casually, for months, or let's say the better part of the last 3 years really. This was the only game since literally World of Warcraft release in 2004 that pulled me into its world so hard I didn't see the light of day for months. Those times have passed now too, but I still can't believe that for almost 10 years by now, there has been not even 1 release that came even close to BDO in the areas it really shines in. Except the monetization, of course, there's been plenty of games that have stepped up their game in that regard aplenty.

Great video! I do have some stuff to add! At 22:20, they attempted to circumvent this somewhat, they added whats called "Marni's Realm" which is a 1 hour a day, any grind location, where YOU are the only on at a certain spot, so for casual players who want to get atleast an hour in of play, can do so, uninteruppted. They also have a "Karma" system in game, where if you instigate too much open world pvp, kill a player thats weaker than you etc. it will lower karma, it varies depending on your gear vs. theirs but negative karma is pretty much never good, not to mention if you get killed you can get sent to jail, which is an inconvience in its own, along with MANY other negative side affects. I would say open world pvp isnt too much of a problem, especially with the state of the game today, you'll still get the odd ball greifer everyonce in a while but otherwise (from my experience) its relitavly tame. Plus some people still have manners. And talking about gear, not to suck PA off here but props to them for making the game very fun for newer players and lowering the time it takes to end up getting at high gear while also providing extra content for long time players and endgame players to do. But to achieve good gear the P2W way, it takes A L O T OF M O N E Y to get to a point where you can easily clap someone with good gear, as its all technically RNG based, your still not guarenteed enchantments. Not to mention, and most would agree, it takes a lot of time (for most classes) to get good at and be skilled at, with the plethora of moves and learning keybinds and combos, being good at a class inst something you can really pay for, I've personally seen how someone with a lower gear score but excpetional mastery with their character can beat someone with a higher gear score with little mastery. With the addition of season servers, theres hardly any advantages that a player gets as everyone starts out the same and theres a hard cap on them as far as gear goes. And as someone who has been very on and off with the game, its really not all too time consuming to get to the end game, and only spending roughly 60$~ over 5 years isnt too shabby! Its got amazing potential and PA keep's rolling out QOL changes, improving things for both old and new player bases.

Negative karma is a net loss for the game, and you only get sent to jail in the desert, nobody grinds there. Everywhere else you lose your crystals if you die, and exp. My favorite tactic is karma bombing, real ez to get spots that way. Sure is frustrating how ez the system is to abuse though.

First of all brilliant video, there are a few things though; That energy bar increases as you learn more about the world, look for NPCs with exclamation marks above their heads to get knoledge on them, look for question marks on the map too. that energy bar is plimarily used for investing energy into nodes/towns to give bonuses to that node, it regens and is shared acrossall characters. you can also use it to perform specific action like gathering certain materials but it regens quite fast. it also in the talk about monetization of PVP you do miss out the button that lets you turn on and off your entry into PVP, sure another player can come and kill you but you don't lose anything when that happens, and the other player gets punished for killing a non-flagged player. I'm for the most part a solo grinder and i'm currently working towards the La Orzeca outfit, its an ingame free outfit that you can obtain just by grinding, and there are quite a few outfits like it that you can find pieces of and craft that give the same bonuses as cash shop items. and often times the game will simply ive you a costume box that you can either open and use for yourself or sell on the marketplace for silver. The monetization of the game goes back even into the beta before the game split off from the publishers and were allowed to reduce the monetization, which in fairness they have done.

Energy system is sadly something you cannot get rid when you play any Korean or Chinese game as many of them are required to have them in game by law, another big example of a big Korean MMO (biggest mmo actually due to China) having energy system is DFO but luckily the fact it basically a game with many character slot and each have their own energy bar make it more bearable, it encourage you to play and grind all of those character BDO also have a way to make it a lot more bearable luckily, if they must have it at least they make it so that it won't actually hinder you too much

As a long time bdo player i fully agree on the monetization being a problem. Having said that, they have recently (in the past year or so) been making changes to lessen the burden on someones wallet which has been a big plus for me personally. As for what you could expect as a new player jumping into the game in 2023, you will progress quite rapidly especially if you start your first character as a seasonal character. You wont really notice the progression slowing down for awhile regardless of if you are paying or are free to play. One thing i wanted to warn players about if they are planning on getting into the game is that the box cost of 10 dollars and the 15 a month "sub" fee are not the only two things i would consider essential to purchase to get a good start but i also would like to make a comparison here. BDO box cost - $10 usd Sub fee - $15 usd Tent deployable - $50 usd (unless it is on sale) Expansion cost - $0 usd New class cost - $0 usd Total upfront cost $70 usd Now lets contrast this with another more mainstream western mmo ESO. Box cost $20 usd Expansion cost - $60 usd (to unlock all current content alongside a subscription to access all non chapter related dlc) and another $40-60 every time a new chapter drops Sub fee - $15 usd Total upfront cost - $95 usd + $40 for each future expansion I make this comparison to show that western mmos are more expensive to keep up to date with and also start with in comparison to BDO where the spending is all player choice and not forced via new expansions. If your goal is to enjoy BDOs unrivaled combat system and pve with friends or by yourself then there is no reason at all to ever pay especially with all the freebies they hand out all the time. If you wish to pvp there are areas of the game that can gear match both players to have an equal shot no matter whos been swiping more (trial characters, hardcapped stats on different node war tiers etc.) TLDR if your end goal ISNT to go around and be the biggest baddest mofo in town then BDO can be immense fun and quite rewarding. If that IS your goal then you should stay away from this game or if you have bad self control then you should also stay away from BDO. The only thing unachievable or unattainable in this game (BDO) without spending real money on it is the tent deployable which is a convenience item and has no use that the game does not already offer. As i said in the beginning however i do wish the monetization would lessen even furthur but at the end of the day, its the players choice to spend and you arent being forced to spend via DLC/Expansions like in western MMOs. In closing i would also like to say that p2w is present in every single game where trading or mailing is an option is present if you know how to use google. That includes ESO, WoW, FF14, Swtor, Lotro... all of those and all the others too which is sad but true. Anyways.... thanks for reading if you did 😂😂😅

I played as a season character which is free for a month Penned all my Tulva gear for a 244ap ,246aap and 306 do graduated got my boss gear and within 2 months have a 600 GS. I have grinded but no where near 8 hrs straight. I might grind an hour to 2 1-3 times a week tops. You can fully catch up with most players very quickly. End game content may take alil longer but in all honesty that's not something I wanna rush for because then I don't get to enjoy the ride. I could fully go to end game gear in the next few months if I wanted to and grinding money is very easy now. I decided personally to slow down once I hit my 1st soft cap bracket to enjoy all elements of the game.

But i cannot stress enough that paying doesnt help you much gearing up later on. You earn 1billion+ per hour grinding which would be an absolutely insane amount of $. Playing 2h a day actively + some decent afk money activities basically cannot be reached with paying... Unless you are willing to pay thousands a month. Paying is highly inefficient in mid-end game, only Moment this is relevant is when you start the game and you wanna get some pets and a tent quickly. Best regards

I Wish you would at least mention Season - which is a HUGE catch up mechanic that game throws in the face of every player just to make sure that newbies don't f themselves over by trying to start the hard (old) way. BTW playing on season servers does protect you from unwanted PvP. Or that Black desert does not lock away content behind DLCs - you buy the game once with the cheapest package and that's it. The more expensive packs"they sell just give you premium shop items. Just to clear this up: No, you can't buy gear in the premium shop. You need to play the game to make it or buy it with in game currency from other players and same goes for crystals. Grinding mobs, killing bosses, lifeskilling, questing and doing PvP content is the way to progress in this game - that's how you make silver to buy the items and/or get materials make the items by yourself.

when i play this game for the first time everything feels so clunky, but after im getting used to the game everything is so seemless and fluid. talking about the playerbase. funny enough i thought this game going to be so toxic because of how open world pvp works, but no when people want your grind spot they usually ask for duel for spot, if you don't want to duel they just leave xD, i remember people ask duel for spot and i told them that i suck at pvp and they said "xD okay enjoy the grind" and leave but this is only works on pve server for me at least ( unless you're on pvp server arsha, it's a bloodbath ). my main mmo currently is BDO and GW2, and i enjoy both for different reasons. whenever people ask if BDO good or not i always tell them and set their expectation yes the game is p2w ( selling outfits for silver so you don't have to grind ), but if you can ignore the cash shop/the p2w aspect you probably will enjoy the game like i do ( yes i spent $100 on BDO for a campsite/tent and outfits but i spent the same amount of money on GW2 expac too xD ). p2w in this game doesn't really make you win the game it's only get you to the end game faster. in pvp that gear won't help you at all, it's all comes to your skill, i've seen people/streamers with 750++ gear score getting killed by people with lower gear score than them. if you're pvp player and hate p2w but you really want to play BDO there is a pvp game mode called arena of arsha, you can jump into the game without having to grind for gears. at the current state of the game i dont think you need years to catch up to where the p2w player if you play 8hrs a day. there is a bdo streamer called choice, he's doing a challenge zero to geared, he's on week 5 and he's almost catching up to those players. if you have 8hrs a day to grind i think you can catch up to those player within months as long as you don't enhance the gear yourself but buy the gear instead.

You can literally get a full set of pen to tuvala gear easily once you graduate from Seasons, you can convert that gear into tet boss gear completely free. Then you can do the quests to turn that box gear into pen gear. That will bring you to 245ap 305dp and this can be done easily within a month, as a skilled player you can do it in two days.

Hey, first of all, thank you for the video a good production for so a small channel thumps up :). I am playing BDO since the western release and have to agree with many parts of the video. For all new or interested players, this game is about the journey not the finish line. You have to set your goals, what you want to achieve, to get at the endgame is hard and need a lot of effort and of course luck to that later because this is missing in the video and though so important. Yes, this game sorts players right at the start, you are responsible for your Progress or Knowledge, this game don’t take you by Hand. But its to much, on this topic should be worked harder and much more but the developer does always work on this. A piece of Advice use the the Chat Group "Lunar Halo Inn" in game, there are only players who wants to share knowledge with you if you are asking politly :). Or start to play with a friend which is used to the game already . Furthermore just start the game and only do what are your intressts, otherwise the game will overwhelm you with all the task you "have to do"! Take your time if you only want to play the game 2-3 hours a week you make your progress by time. This game is really casual friendly. The most amount of players are casual. The so called “engame gear” is about 700 Gear score (AP/DP stats combined) and yet after so many years not even 10% of the player base has achieved it. Sure, I have, but if you don’t its not a big deal. They are a few catch up mechanics which will always empowered by the developer at the time, it is called season. This system gives you good gear fairly easy in comparison what you await after the season. Gear Progression works over random Item Enhancement, which is very complex, simply you press enhance, it succeeds or not. So, you can spend Billions of silvers for enhancing and gain nothing or you “One Tap” every item in the game. The part above is very important for the “pay to win discussion” which is missing in the video. YES, some items are not able to get in game without spending money or are so annoying to keep up that you will simply buy it. As mentioned above I play since release, and I have spent money in the cash shop. BUT do not spent money for Items which are consumables if you lack on money. I have never payed for a Karma Tree or a Value Pack in my whole life and neither I wont in the future because you can play around it, which takes though fair to say a little effort of logistics. A little calculation for everyone. Yes you can just swipe you credit card through the store buy a costume (34 Euro) and put it on the marketplace which gives you minus taxes around 600 million which equals 1 hour or 2 hour of grinding with season gear, wih my endgame gear on my Warrior which is not considered a good engame grinder i get 1 billion silver per hour at the right spot, other classed gain even more. Furthermore you are limited to a certain amount of items which can be sold that way to gain silver with real money. I think it was 20-30 per month Items. In that way you spent for 18 billion silver, 1020 Euros. For real endgame Items you need 100 Billions Silver. I hope you understand my point of view. Do not misunderstand me I don’t not like it that you are able to do it that way. But if you are a hard worker and have rearly time to play its a fair ratio. Node and Siege War which are considers the engame PVP Content are mostly gear capped and only a few are not. Arena of Solar is a 3v3 compatative pvp mode where you play with equalized gear!. Even if you are spent thousend of real money without playing or mastering your class you can still get easy killed by a player which is 50-80 Gear score lower then you. The Gear Score is not more as important as it was a few years ago cause the engame progession is really slowed down. The Open World PVP is for sure for some a problem but the community found a away to deal with it. If you play on the PVP Server Arsha you will mostly killed by side. On Normal Severs this happens realy the player base agreed to the non written game rule "Duell for Spot". If you are agrinding on a spot the players will 99% the time first ask for a duell, the winner takes the grindspot. There you dont get a punishment for killing each other. If you just flag up and kill players on non pvp server you can get minus karma after a certain number of kills. in this State by death your gear can DOWN GRADE and safe zones dosent work for you anymore, that is a huuuuge punishment. I must strongly disagree to the take. That Players are punished if you dont pay and hinders your progress. that to say it so simplified and is not fair for the effort the developer put in this game! I personally thinks its fair in the perspective that you get every week a new patch with events, every 5-6 months a new Class and every Year a new Region for free. There are so many events over the year that gives you so many pearl Items, that you as a long term player get so much rewards of doing nothing. That amount of developing needs for sure much money. They are working constantly to reduce the burden to pay for convenience like reducing weight or reducing the amount of different items which led you to buy more weight or Inventory Slots. If you want to buy a Value Pack its totally fine cause if you pay monthly for WOW or monthly your Value pack I see no difference. This game needs to earn money or its soon a dead game. There are multiple reason why this game is still alive after so many “BDO” killer games. Furthermore, player can benefit if other players cash costumes and sell it on the marketplace. As mentions above you enhance your items to get stronger or simply buy it form the marketpace if available. By Failing on enhancements by Weapon and Armor after a certain degree it can drop (Accessories get destroyed) again which can be prevented by using corn stones those can be bought by NPC for 2 Million silver. If you buy a costume from the marketplace or cash shop you can dismantle it and get cron stones which are 1,2 million silver per Cron. For late game Items you need few thousands of crons to prevent drops. That way you as a non cashing player gain a huge advantage if players a stupid enough to sell costumes for real money. Sadly in EU we are not stupid enough. In NA the marketplace is overflown with costumes. Even with this amout of text we only scrached the surface of the game. There are so many systems that you can abuse if you have the knowledge to do so that the "pay to win" factor gets even smaller in terms of grinding and gear progression. I hope those kind of Information helps you and all other new player to put the game in a fair perspective which can not be achived in two days and i know that. Furthermore i apologize of my bad grammatic, i hope you still understood the most important parts :)

Wrong YES BDO is a Cash shop H__. But if you are not pay to win. You can still do it all and enjoy the game with out paying a thing. The game gives you every thing in the cash shop a little at a time. The only thing I had to get was the TENT in the cash shop but that is for the convenience of not having to go back to the black smith to repair my gear. I have 12 Maids full lvl 4 set of pets and all of the boosts and characters slots all from Free Attendance Rewards and Daily Loyalties in the loyalties shop.

I've been playing since alpha and there's so many giveaways ingame via login rewards, returning/new player rewards, weekly events, special events and just random events. There's literally so many freebies, it can get annoying and anyone who isn't able to get by in the game with all the free handouts and the quest rewards is doing it wrong. I take a break every now and again to play other games like NW, Lost Ark, GW2, WoW, ESO and others but always return to BDO, it will always be my go to because of the incredible array of things to do ingame, likeskilling, pvp, wars, questing, grinding and the combat and exploration is second to none. All the updates and expansions just keep rolling out so the game never gets stale, at least for me.

FR just play for a month and do daily logins or wait for an event and you get all the pay items you need usually. The only thing is the tent which is a little OP but wait for a sale for it and use a coupon and you can get it for like 10 bucks. Pets used to be p2w but they give a great amt now. Free maids all the time now. No silver weight anymore. Etc. Game is for sure pay for convenience but i think now its really in a great direction. Shame it took so long to get to the good direction...but better now then never :) Good video though man, cheers.

22:22 I'm confused. Video is only 2 months old, and I haven't played yet, but everything I have read says you CAN unflag yourself for PVP and there is a whole karma system going on. You said you are flagged for PVP always and can't turn it off. That is not true from what I have read. You can still be attacked if you turn off the flag (which you CAN do) but there is a whole karma system to prevent pking for no reason. I mean, unless something changed that I am not aware of. Why did you not mention any of this?

Hi Sir it's definitely not pay to win. My friend spend almost 1,000 dollars and He's still with the same gear as mine. I did not spend anything aside from value pack. We spend same playing time together, maybe what is worst/best for this game is RNG. Spending money doesn't make you strong instead it gives you more attempts in gambling to make you stronger or weaker.

Just a note. GW2 has 9 main classes and each of those has 3 more elite classes like the awakening in BDO, so 36 in total. If you also take into account the different weapon combinations for each of those, you get good class diversity.

For those who want to play BDO go for it. Try it and go for it, for the gear progress its somehow fast cus it depend in how often u play and grind. There are many way to get silver like lifeskill (fishing, cooking, alchemy, trading, barter, and farming) if u want to do some relax and silver gain gameplay. For me the pvp mechanics is kinda smooth and understandable. If someone said "BDO is full gambling and RNG and p2w" well that's true. But f2p player also can beat those p2w cus it depend on ur skill and ur effort. P2W in BDO is expensive cus u need buying item from pearl shop and sell it on central market and repeat. But mostly p2w is just for making player get buff easier like tent buff, rarely people sell item cus its so expensive and need a lot of money to spent. But ya, try it and get use to it. Not because u dont understand the game make the game dead or unplayable. Cus i admit it the game confusing for the first time but y, as long as you play, progress, gambling, cry bcs RNGOD is not on ur side, stop playing for a month or a year and comeback and grind until u forget about real life. Congrats, now u a BDO player It's worth it to play this game, bcs this game teach u how life is cruel and teach u life is wonderful at the same time. Cheers mate, sorry for bad english lol

Pretty good video from your second day playing, I would recommend first checking some other videos to get the jist first. First day felt a bit rushed like you just wanted to throw something on your channel. As someone with almost max gear in game, I have to correct you on scammy montetisation. Scammy monteisation ... Just because its there doesnt mean you need it. Game alone will give you most of the pearl stuff you need for free or thru events that are plentiful, or you can buy it from marketplace for silver. Most people got their gear from marketplace for silver that they grinded not from help of pearlshop items, yes whales can get upper hand but mostly its not that big of a difference if you know what are you doing. Its challenging for new players to understand monetisation in this game because its aimed for people that can and will to spend, but which mmo doesnt need money when there are whales they can milk. Without heavy spenders this game would be even harder than it is now, because you can buy pearl items on marketplace for silver ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. video was nicely paced with good information value for players that never played it.
@TheRealNgsGamer

I agree, i think the only upper hand a whale would have on a free to play player is the time spending to get the gear (even that would cost you a lot of money tho), "Tent" and weight limit for grinding nothing else... (you can store unlimited in your horse so)

in 22:54 i just cant, if u were to grind 8 hours per day you can get end game (700gs score) in around 2 to 3 months, it was lately showed by a youtuber called choice he made a new account and was grinding daliy and completed his series in 55 days. He spent only 60$ and in my opinion its not that mutch considering that u are going to spend around a year in this game its worth it, its not going to take u years because now u can progress a lot faster than 3 or 4 years ago, im playing this game for 4 years and I only have 686gs and that shows how the progress accelerated

As a F2P player since mediah expansion I gotta say the most valuable things are pets and the tend in the shop it has pay to win elements but yeah . And on the other hand you can have a decent gear score within 1-3 months and you can craft pen gear nowdays. With a bit of petience you can buy most pearl items with in game currency from marketplace and with even more patience some of those stuff will fly in your way with events. I can tell you how the game became more convenient for all players over the years in almost everything and you can go F2P no problem . All these years I took some breaks and I must have spend around 150 euros all on black Fridays I never thought I needed to spend more especially in the current state of the game I guess you only need the tend (50 euros) .

I played BDO around a year ago for about 450 hours (lifeskiller) and I stopped to think for a bit because I lost gear through enhancing and needed to start from nearly zero. I then thought to myself whether the time investment will be worth it if I do it again (the answer was a skeptical "yes" because I liked chopping trees and gathering meat) until I realized that I barely shut down my computer for a month straight because I get incentives by being afk. In a moment of clarity I immediately removed it from my Steam account and never looked back. I still miss chopping trees tho. Good times.

the thing with bdo is the game doesn’t really start til you hit lvl 58 ish. thats when you get access to your awakening/succession quest to where to fully unlock the potential of your class etc. when i first tried this game i hated it and few months down the line i gave it another shot & now it’s one of my main games. little tip, lock your evasion in the skills. dodge rolling will kill you. the game relies on i-frames forward guards and super armored skills. fg= no dmg from the front, sa= can’t be ccd while using the skill :) ps: doing the main story is tedious just like any other mmo. but after mediah you don’t really have to quest anymore and any season character you make you can skip the whole story. from then on the game seems 10x better. alot of qol in bdo and it’s definitely a long term mmo

The late game grind for gear pretty much kills this game and keeps it from attracting any new players. Otherwise this game would be mainstream, it would be huge. People pick up bdo and they have fun playing for a bit but then your progress pretty much halts and you have to tryhard sweat grind smacking mobs for hours a day every day for a week or more just for the enhance to fail

I am addicted to this game. Its also very misunderstood and deemed far too pay to win by a lot of people due to it being one of the first offenders. But with pay to win being prevelent in games like wow, lost ark, eso etc. Its honestly not that bad in bdo anymore. Yes you can pay for speed ups that lead to power. But grinding will always win over swiping nowadays. Swiping and grinding is where the real speed is at. This is due to pearl abyss introducing a lot of wellfare gear and items to help you catch up. You can get into the midgame after roughly 1 month of playing. Its also a game that doesnt tell you what to do. No mandatory weeklies or dailies. Just go explore and grind for silver. Upgrade the gear for pvp or heck avoid pvp and just craft all day and print money that way. Im so sick of games like wow that invalidate your gear every 3 months or make you spam the same dungeons and raids every week. BDO is grindy yes, but you have way more choice on how to approach the grind. Taking a break doesnt punish you nearly as much. You can play this game way more on your own pace. A few years ago, the grind was massive and way more pay to win. And I think that left to its reputation but now I would say bdo is one of the most casual and free to play friendly games out there. All updates are free, devs throw free premium shit at you. I Hardly ever pay in this game. Only things thats nice to have is weight and the tent.
@Solkan55

I've been playing this game since 2015 and your review about the game is only valid if we are still in 2015-2019 there are a lot of your review that only proves you haven't played long enough to understand the game. If you are a new player and level 50 you can find a guild that is active in pve lifeskill and join Vell the sea monster that drop worth 9 billion silver its called Vells heart if you are lucky enough. You don't even need end game gear because you are in a guild ship using the cannons. Now tell me if there is any MMO that you can join a guild and do that kind of content without any good gear? They also have season servers now and its a somewhat PA catch up mechanic for new player its really easy now compared before for new players as long you join a guild and willing to learn the game.

I think besides the initial buy cost of 10,- that also goes for free sometime, the game is furthermore fully free 2 play and encourages to do so, giving many event rewards and season servers.. The only thing to buy besides cosmetics are things to speed up some progress for certain area`s this game offers.. Some people only do fishing, sailing or combat grinding and some like to do it all.. Everything is obtainable in the game for free and can be grinded for if you have no life or want no life (should be the true definition of mmorpg, and is exactly the sandbox they provided).. I personally am happy there are quality of life things available for casual/paying players to progress more smooth, with the insane depth and layers this game has to offer.. The word win in p2w is controversial, because there is also fully balanced pvp modes available.. And being the strongest in open world also does not mean you have won just like in the real world.. I believe if you have fun catching your fish or doing whatever, that's the actual big win and that is fully free to obtain in BDO.. It is not like FFXIV where you need to pay subscription to be able to even login for doing repetition dungeon mechanics or life skill for days, before you can cast another rock with white mage.. And for example Runescape II has horrible ads in your face, every thing like inventory slots, mounts or whatever they could think off behind a pay system makes it unplayable! Even Guild wars 2 is notorious for having to pay for convenience like loot scrappers, inventory slots or equipment slots and almost mandatory gem to gold exchange and expensive pay to even see the story.. In BDO you just cannot buy straight up in game currency.. Anyway I can easily play more hours in BDO comfortably than all titles mentioned above, without paying a single dime.. And in all mmo cases these days upkeeping or maintaining endgame is always unforgiving and it should be, let me try to explain.. Getting your legendary armor for example in GW2, once you done doing all those requirements it would be the best time to say, payed for it, been there, seen it, done it is the reason to uninstall.. I believe if you really reach the so called end game in BDO and think the game is good and you wanna play that end game, it is very healthy for a game to then say, make some revenue from veterans to keep comforting them - while still not being mandatory is the most important thing in this case.. And don`t forget that for some people it is about the journey and not the last destination and that is exactly what this game can offer for free.. Then again just imagine when end game bosses are not strong anymore or there is nothing to grind for or pay, that is called game over - and might be the actual philosophy to avoid.. BDO is a true high roller mmo with the most beginner friendly access, while offering high fidelity graphics and many layers of depth to freely explore on the market right now, that can be played and paid with time (where money is not needed)..Overall very nice video to watch, but pretty rough on the pay to convenience opinion, that was somewhat narrow vision in comparison to other games - I have seen way worse monetization to be honest.. And btw I think it is one of the best mmo UI`s to be honest, you can scale it up or down in total - and for all its depth it has to offer its the most clean ever.. You can even sail or do all combat in phot scenic mode ctrl+U > F1 and best of all it is fully customizable unlike other big titles like FFXIV or GW2 UI is more constricted.. Don`t forget there is very nice auto pathing when doing big journeys, being able to do other things like inventory management or do some other adventure guide reading or alt tab to this video for example while still progressing and training horse.. Those lengthy journeys make the world feel more alive, like a real big open world instead of jumping from teleport to teleport.. And having the option to have afk progression or screensavers is so nice! Instead of finding yourself back at server selection screen after taking a trip to the toilet or getting prompts to constantly switch servers to merge populations.. Don`t get me started about housing with true purpose, that GW2 or FFXIV just does not offer at this scale and depth, but they should for that kind of money - BDO just offers that (for free).. And what about pets not having to interact with every chest or loot, maids, nodes and farming with workers? Instead of just horrible crafting and resource gathering like in GW2, they just implemented synthesizers to get mats is a real joke! Resource gathering in BDO is really like never seen before and just a whole other level of depth and true innovation, just like the crafting is satisfying enough while all looking nice and working wonderful.. Don`t get me started more about FFXIV I could start a war if I go full honest about it.. Ohh and New World is just straight up garbage, clunky broken stiff combat that is not even on the list of being considered a worthy title.. Just a no mount walk around worst dodging ever uninstall.. Unless your name is bright life and have a weak spot for swords and medieval cookie cutter style of worthless ps4 style gameplay - I would just keep my hopes up for Ashes of Creation.. I just prefer the more graphically satisfying sorceress, mages and martial artists.. Go figure - enjoy my wall of text, Cheers!..

In terms of monetization I do feel like if spend a little up front you could maybe comfortably avoid needing to pay this game's version of a "subscription" system. I spent $120 dollars on the game in total and went it really far (with a lot of the pearls still left) but the game its self and DLC where on sale, there was event in game giving you more free stuff and sales in the shop, I was purchasing limited time new player deals, and the game was stacking me 50%/30% off coupons as new player that I guess are pretty rare once you've played more and aren't buying new player packages. They sell you literally everything in this game and takes a lot of planning and calculations to figure out what is worth it, what isn't, what order you need to buy thing in to maximize coupons etc. It's also easy to drop a lot of money into the game before you know if you are going to stick with the title. However comparing to it ESO the other MMO I've played most of I don't think I would have to spend as money. ESO gives you a lot of premium currency as part of the subscription (or at least it adds quickly up over time) but is basically mandatory if you don't want to live in inventory hell and the game charges a lot for yearly expansions and even smaller DLC's if you don't have the subscription. Thankfully the expansions in BDO are free because they expect you to be buying costumes, fairies, and other shit.

Honestly as a person who really doesn't play BDO anymore I can tell you the game is some how really not pay 2 win in the way the term is used and thought about ppl think p2w means I give money I get power thats not how BDO works in BDO you can not get any power the only real thing you can get is the chance to not lose already gained power in the form of Cron stones what people tend to do is buy the outfits off the cash shop and put them on the Marketplace others buy extract the crons and go for an upgrade now the ppl who are putting the outfits up takes the silver and just buy the upgrade the need or want, and thats the biggest Gotcha in BDO they want you to think you have to catch up honestly right now NOBODY PVPs anymore its not necessary all the places that you would find open world pvp are high level grindspots but recent updates have gave a solo person grind zone to these places for 1 hour

All of your opinions were fleshed out logically and I can understand them. However, several viewers have already commented this: You can still play the game, even if you go at a snail's pace in your progression. I personally play the game for the time to meet with other friends / guild members and relax while having a beer. I leave my gaming rig 24/7/365 and level either my character's level or my Life Skills AFK and I might offset the pace of progression of either my levels or my life skills. Some people might not agree with that model, but at least here, in Asia, that is a taken: people leave their rigs leveling AFK while in real life, they go to work, make money, earn cash and come back home to their favorite character and pick up where they left.
