Also just a disclaimer: I'm not saying that the algorithm is inherently bad because there still are ways to take advantage of it if you know what you're doing, this was just to address the reasons why some of your favorite creators over time might have disappeared not just in the League community but from KZfaq in general. I fully know the risks of uploading shorter content (If you check previous short videos / streams you can actually find traces of me straight up saying I'm testing stuff in the comments and stuff) but I still try to do these high quality short uploads from time to time since it's always nice seeing my viewers pleasantly surprised to see a completely random upload in the midst of all of the stream highlights

Dude it’s fking league bro get a life no offense but like I been saying this for like forever ago. It’s just u guys don’t see it at all. Not gonna watch this to know what league does. Overall ur not actually winning or playing the game. The game is rigged to make u stay stuck forever only funny and popular content creators that are just entertaining I don’t think anyone is good in my opinion in NA. Except contracts.even I had great videos but gave up cuz just too much bad players. Do urself a favor. It’s not worth the burnout and editing. After I quit life got way better. League is easy cuz everyone is trash. Ur off better just putting ur time in the gym and doing other things. Even if ur a good gamer. Trust me enjoy life more cuz when ur older. League just gets worse. Look at all the majority cc they look like shid if ur a guy.

First thing is that I went and watched the brand new lightsaber video when it was mentioned, I always love those edits and it's really sad that we the viewers can just miss it so easily thanks to algorithm. For the actual content stuff it's really sad to see how so many content creators have had to pivot away from the amazing content that they can and have made. Really the only ones in the league sphere that I see still doing the funny stuff are you and Pianta and I'm just super thankful that it's still alive to some degree even if it can't be the main content on a channel anymore.

Even as a smaller league creator myself I can totally attest to everything said in this video. My videos seem to receive a completely random amount of views irrespective of how much effort I put into them or what the subject is, and It's incredibly frustrating. Sometimes I'm spending hours of effort on a video only for it to barely keep up with my average, and then a random garbage AP Milio video that I was going to scrap entirely gets 40k views out of nowhere. I don't know how people are supposed to rely on it as a source of income anymore and yeah, just diving deep into low effort content or just *not sleeping* are so tempting at times. I really hope it gets better but it's been this way for the last 4 years at least, now. I'm tired, boss.

Poly, I hope that you don't feel bad uploading your stream highlight videos despite people calling them samey. You have a unique style and appeal, and you work well with the framework you're under in the current youtube landscape. For me, I can't watch streams as a general rule so highlights are a way to feel like I'm still a fan. Regardless of whether you continue to consistently upload your standard content or not, just know that we appreciate you for what you've been doing and are looking forward to seeing whatever you decide next.

@travelsizedhispasian
@travelsizedhispasian Ай бұрын
There's a TON of factors that I could think of that results in League content being this way, but altogether, the main consequence resulting these types of videos is just as you stated: The algorithm, unfortunately, favours those "cheap" and "low quality" videos. It sucks, because I know how cool it would be for someone's favourite video game to have a diverse range of content and quality, and be rewarded for their genuine input. But unfortunately, as I've noticed, League (gameplay) is bound to fall into that pattern of low effort content. Compare that to a well-edited, long video essay detailing the history and creation of LoL, _then_ there's a higher likelihood that sort of video would be recieved very well since the differing factor is the _type_ of content/medium utilized. There's just plenty of issues within the algorithm and unfortunate "biases" so-to-speak that result in this endless cycle. Unless a good portion of LoL creators simultaneously decide to make an effort to make content outside the current state of things-things will most likely stay the same. I still enjoy your content nonetheless, I think I have been watching you for 4 years now. I don't even play League, neither do I enjoy it, but no matter what sort of thing you decide to do, I'll try my best to support you. Thanks for all your videos and efforts Polypuff, we (your fans) appreciate it!

Poly, hope you read this. I'm being honest, as a viewer, something that is catching me the attention are multi-content videos. Back in league years ago, it was fun and new, however, it honestly burned out with the same content (full match or highlights videos) over and over again (this also matches with riot on not implementing new stuff). So I've been looking recently that the content I've been liking was league + blogs videos, which covered something on league but also something else in a *single* video (not that necessary) away from league that would not burn the content with the same style. That's why some channels such as lily's, ended up being successful at bringing viewers from different topics into one channel up to today (still, I got to know your channel from your 4- minute and challenge videos that you uploaded). However you must know what your audience likes, and branching out is OK as long as you don't get too far away from league. I think live stream clips of yours would also help. Maybe asking through a poll would be nice. I still don't exactly know how youtube algorithm works, so I'm not completely sure about how such idea would perform at the end :c but you can test this out. Still, I would like to see you make cookies and steal blue buff from enemy jungle. We as fans appreciate a lot your effort that you put into the videos. You can always do better!

It definitely feels like there's a vicious cycle when it comes to making longer form videos or even just comedic videos on League. Since the majority of League content nowadays are things like stream highlights, guides, or edited games, it makes it harder for other videos that aren't one of those to be put into the algorithm because they can much more easily get drowned out in the sea of League content. Then like you said, the person making highly edited videos every month will be much more affected by a video not being picked up by the algorithm than a person who uploads daily. They then may see that their video they put a lot of effort into just doesn't do well, and then have to churn out the lower quality and less time sinking videos just to survive which ends up killing creativity on the platform.

Worth noting, "Clickbait" only feels like bait if what's being promised is not what's delivered. If it's eye catching, interesting, and accurate, no one feels deceived by a thumbnail that might still get lumped in as "clickbait". There's a few good videos on the topic I've seen before but am too lazy to find right now.
@rcbinchicken
@rcbinchicken Ай бұрын
yeah there's an art to presenting your content via the thumb in a way that spikes a viewer's curiosity - the same "feel" as clickbait - without actually misleading them or misrepresenting your video. I think we all use the term clickbait a bit too widely when we're really describing two distinct methods.

Most creators stream, and it took them everything to so. THEN there's the editing, if you have bad workload and schedule, you had to make hiring editors - that's business manager job. I wholeheartedly agree with your point -begin to end- since I've seen nth creators losing income trying to appeal to a faceless void that's the 'Community' Then there's the issues relating to Personalities online bring bad loop of mentality into the field (TOPMAIN meme, hateful/exploitive creators with a track record of bad finances, etc.)

rtb too, he's got some good concepts, but he's been murdered by the algorithm since 2015 and has never recovered

Please can any one explain to me how the KZfaq Payment works like do they pay each month for that video till end of the year ? Or it's a one time only like by the end of the year you receive what your video have generated or something like that ?
@Polypuff
@Polypuff Ай бұрын
Basically you get paid from the 21st - 26th of the next month (So if your videos earned 1000 dollars in March, you'd get paid that amount around April 21st - 26th) and if your old videos earn more money after that payment period then it just gets added onto the next payment whenever that is For the most part though unless you have viewers actively looking through older uploads (which usually affects bigger channels) then you don't receive that much more revenue

Feel you, I've been killing myself trying to edit my videos to be more condensed ( 8-10m ) videos, and sometimes you give your all and.... Crickets. It's like I had a few videos that worked well, I try something a bit different and it doesn't work at all So I feel like i'm forced into this niche " RANK 1 HWEI " titles, super repetitive ( i try to switch it up with builds and stuff but yeah )

An old KZfaqr once said something to the tune of: You shouldn't gamble your KZfaq income on creations of passion. You can do them recreationally and for your own benefits, but you shouldn't take it personally if they don't make it big, because often times, they won't, and you shouldn't risk your ability to pay rent to make them.

I cannot say that it is the case for everyone but here is my personnal experience about your 4:20 video -> It was recommanded to me in my feed but I didn't clicked on it because of the thumbnail (I think ?) Tbh, I don't feel like editing with Star Wars is a good bet to get a video viral. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know. But I can tell you that there's plently of shorter videos being recommanded in my feed (from 5min to 12 sec long videos). So I'm not sure that the lenght is a problem.

People seems to talk about THE ALGORITHM as if it was a separate entity that does whatever it wants, they all forget they ARE the algorithm, it shows the stuff it does because people watch it. If they want to stop getting low quality content, then stop watching low quality content.

Yeah, been watching this happen over and over for years. KZfaq content is always a passion project at the start, just something to do because your creativity demanded it, then those who are lucky enough to gain a following can start feeding that machine, but the process of feeding it means constantly mixing a part of yourself into the meal until you have nothing left and you have to go somewhere else. The idea that was good once is now your job, the image you created is now your role and public identity. Praise gives way to criticism and as you lose passion for it so does the audience and they get brutal about it. KZfaq is an interesting career, but I think a LOT of creators overstay, get stuck in ruts, become creatively bankrupt and desperately lonely. I hope you find a way to make this about more than feeding the machine in exchange for your rent money.I remember finding your channel and just being blown away by the charm, heart, skill and creativity on display. It probably made me play two awful bard games, but mostly I enjoyed the chill ambiance of the presentation. Thanks for the great content, and the not so great.

I don't know if it's the case for anyone else, but I personally prefer these fast and low quality content because I don't have to think or pay much attention. Life is already pretty tiring, sometimes I just wanna watch a video while a monkey plays cymbals on my brain.

ironic that a video commenting on the state of youtube is probably gonna be one of your higher viewed videos. Good luck on the chess match! May the biggest brain win.
