Hi Stephanie! You both are great together. Very entertaining & informative. I was a vinyl collector from the 70's (still am). I moved on to collecting CD's (still am) but my focus is mainly on hits so I buy mainly "various artists" & "greatest hits" collections. I had laserdiscs, DVD's, Blu-Rays & 4K discs (selectively).I have a mental list & wait for sales. I love buying Criterion titles & this is how I decide what to buy. I watch "Criterion Haul" videos (including yours). On a piece of paper I create two columns (Got / Not). In the video, if they say they have a title I already have, I put a dot in the "Got" column. If they say a title I want, I write it into the "Not" column. When I see multiple repeats of the "Not" titles in other videos, I consider it another vote for that title. When the Criterion sale rolls around, I have my list ready. I watch the trailers for my movie choices & prioritize my list. I don't buy them all because I go with my budget & gut feeling. I hope this helps. Take care! --- Bill

Hi Bill and thanks so much for your very kind words. I love that you're an avid collector of so many different kinds of media; both music and movies. I still have 8 tracks that were from my parents. No player but I have the tapes. 😂😂😂 I really like your system for organizing what you're going to grab for the Criterion sales. That's smart collecting. Thanks so much for watching and I hope all is well with you, my friend. 😊

Thank you for posting the links below your video. Very informative. I have personally made some road trips to Pam's Video Game Movie Dome, and it is the best store. Pam herself is super friendly and nice. I believe I recently saw that she has about 5+ other locations around and near the Allentown, PA area. It's about a 6 hour trip for me (I live outside Buffalo, NY), so we try to incorporate it into a camping trip, etc. I will add Orbit and Diabolik to my searches. I would have to say the vast majority of my collection has come from thrifting/flea markets and Amazon/Best Buy/Walmart. I also hit up the big library sales and some used record stores near me! Fun video, Stephanie, and nice to see you and Jon on a livestream again. Hope you guys do another stream about your thoughts on a particular movie. I watched your Nebraska video awhile back, and thought it was a very cool idea. Take care, and see you again soon! :)

Hi friend and thanks so much for sharing your go-to spots for finding physical media. I really need to make a trip to one of the Video Game Movie Dome locations. I have so many titles I can trade in and maybe find others I need. The online thing is tough for me because I miss being able to pick out my own copy of the movies I want but even worse, I'm spending way more money than I was. Besides things being way more expensive, plus shipping costs, etc it's just way too easy to load up a "shopping cart" and forget it's not Monopoly Money. 😂😂😂 I definitely need to cut down on both my collecting and current collection. Thanks so much for watching our chat. We'll be doing another one soon over on Jon's channel and I hope to get him back here real soon. Hope all is well with you. 😊👋👋

I like where I've landed with physical media collecting vs streaming. I have a few rules that I loosely follow: 1. I only buy something that is expensive if it's a must have OR if I've thought on it multiple times over like a week and just really want it/have clicked on many times online/passed by it many times in a store. 2. I like getting auction/thrift hauls that I won't mind discarding, giving away, etc. because that's nearly the same price as renting anyway. 3. I use streaming where it absolutely makes sense. For example, if there's a current release that I want to see now and review for the channel but suspect I won't really need a copy of, I just rent it. This seems to be working for me, and I don't have a stressful collection in terms of size. I hope it continues this way.

This was such a good conversation, excellent advice here! I’ve been a media collector for about 10 years this year, and my goodness there is no shortage of releases these days that’s for sure. Collecting definitely ebbs and flows, and I feel like so many people get fomo when it comes to all the boutique collectors editions. You don’t need the pricey stuff to enjoy the movie. 😊

Two of my fave peeps in the community 😊. Love your discussions together. I love thrifting. The hunt is fun & not knowing what you'll find. Facebook is one of my go to places for cheap physical media. Happy Big Lots is finally getting in more stock. Hopefully they keep it up. Pam is awesome! HamiltonBook is another of my go to for physical media. Great customer service too. Thankfully, haven't had any real issues with Amazon. Gruv constantly has deals going on. Great discussions! Thanks for the tips!

@@thevideogamemoviedomehi Pam. It's our pleasure to continue to support businesses like The Video Game Movie Dome that work so hard to keep physical media alive. I'm so happy to see your brand growing and expanding. I'm definitely going to find my way to one of your locations very soon. 😊

Sadly I can't shop the way I used to, mainly because of my disability. But Stephanie has given me so many ideas on movies and it has revitalized my love of film. John (Plaidx) as well.

Hi friend. I'm in the same boat, as you know. I find selling titles I no longer need or doubles help keep my collection going. Without that, I'd be way out of the collecting game. Things have also gotten way too expensive, even for standard editions. Thanks so much for watching and I'm happy you've gotten some helpful suggestions from both Jon and myself. 😊

I know I left a long comment already, but I just wanted to say that what you said about feeling anxiety over your collection, echoes exactly what I have been feeling about mine. I really have met my max, and I also would like to reduce the size of mine. I am worried as I get older, what if something happens to me, who is going to want to deal with all these movies? My own collection exploded during the pandemic. I had a small collection that I have been adding to substantially over the past 4 years. I was much more disciplined when there were brick and mortar stores. I could govern my purchases easier than online shopping. I feel better after watching this video and hearing that other people (like you) feel the same as I do. I love movies, but I feel that I need to work on limiting what I think I need to add to the collection. Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts. It means a lot to know that other collectors feel the same.

Hi friend. Oh, I'm right there with you. My anxiety over my collection is through the roof. I'm constantly working to organize and cut back on what I have. I agree with you that things have really taken a turn since the lack of in-store shopping. Walmart is a total waste and most of them don't carry much or even restock. I've given up trying to find one around me that carries any movies. It's frustrating. You're definitely not alone when it comes to space limitations and having to think about how to manage your collection. I hoped by sharing what I'm feeling that other collectors might know that we all struggle at some point. I'm glad you found it helpful. I'm definitely going to highlight what I've done to control the collection when I get to the point that I can do a full room tour. Almost there!! Thanks so much for watching and being here. It's always nice to hear from you. 😊👋👋

Great video and nice ideas. I have tried Good Wills and some other similar places. I have found some ok music that way, but most of the movies they have I either already own or are movies I am not interested in. I have a large collection (nothing like yours) and I am pretty much almost done with all the stuff I want from the past. There are a few titles that have never been released, gone out of print or are super expensive I have yet to get. My Amazon now has a few cartoon collections, but that is pretty much it. I used to be in Boston, so I had a ton of options, but now I am in the south and there's little to be had. I have not done the palette purchases. I saw a few of these, but I am particular about the movies I curate and don't want a bunch of DVDs I don't want. That place in PA seems pretty cool though. Thanks for that tip!

It's hard to get excited for Wal-Mart as a goto for physical media when you see nothing but DVD's and empty shelves where UHD's should be. I've had no choice but to buy everything online.

Hi friend. I absolutely understand what you mean. Even online with Walmart, they're just failing. Everything is sold out before you even have the option to pre-order anything. The scalpers get everything and it's such a shame. I'm fine with ordering online as long as things get to me in good shape Thanks so much for watching the video and I hope you have luck finding things online. 😊
