In 1980 I recieved a Chrismas card from the Statler Brothers with a key ring included. I worked at 73 WFMC in Goldsboro NC. At earlier stations in Florida and Alabama I had aired their music every chance. That card meant more to me than all of my Maple Street Memories. Harold's passing was a gut punch. I will to my last breath cherish their music. I was Class if '67!

Written by Gary Scruggs (Earl Scruggs son) and Thom Schuyler. Don and Harold were supposed to do this but Don said their 'speaking voices' were so close that it would confuse the listeners, so he gave his part to Jimmy and as he said "They did a fabulous job on not only the record but on the video we shot."

I just stumbled on this and being a Swede I had no idea who the Statler Brothers are. But man oh man, I cannot get this song out of my head,

I just saw where Harold Reid passed away last night. :( That just breaks my heart. I'm a die hard Statler Brothers fan! I began listening to them in the early 70's when I was only 15 or 16 years old. Fly high Harold....you will be missed by many!

Well, after over 50 years of listening to these fellas, I have not heard that one before. My complements to the writer, well done!
@gaymichaelis75812 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Scott, I’ve never heard that one either!!! But I haven’t been listening to Statler Brothers quite as long as you have!! I was raised in the north east in Pennsylvania outside of Philadelphia… Then I met my ex-husband who is from Alabama, who didn’t want me to listen to rock ‘n’ roll, which I was raised on, etc.!! And I hated country music!! Ha, ha!! But then I learn to love country music, especially listening to it all the time!! He and I were migrant farmworkers and traveled around the country, picking fruit and vegetables… I ended up hearing and learning about to start my brothers and I have loved them ever cents!!! But my mother would say, “it’s a small world”!!!! She said it over and over again! So I love this song! It is so cute and funny how they did this year, isn’t it?! And it seems like a lot of guys like the Statler Brothers, not just the women!!! 😀✋👌👏❤️😁😝

R.I.P Harold Reid.. Me, my brother, and best friend would all 3 listen to this song in school. This was one of our favorites by them. My friend always cried laughing at ''I'll be a monkey's uncle, my Retia's got one too!'' It still cracks him up whenever he hears it. Thank you Harold and the rest of the Statlers for the memories! :)

My father would always listen to these guys back in the late 70's and 80's when I was just a young kid... You could always count on there being a Statler Bros. tape playin' in our car and I hated that... I'd consistently bitch and whine at dad telling him to turn off that "yucky music"............................ Fast forward 35 years and now I enjoy their music and it's *my* kid who cant stand them...... Oh the irony!

I like the overall dynamic of having the bass Harold Reid singing up against Jimmy Fortune's tenor...each trading verses in the song.

I noticed when the first blond walked in the girl on the right took a deep breath and pushed her chest out a little. Both of the ladies gave the blond the look which seemed to say where did she come from. I wonder if the two blonds were sisters since they both had butterfly tattoos outstanding song and the video was outstanding too
