I think it's pretty evident throughout the whole entire Thousand-Year Blood War Arc that Tite Kubo cut a lot of things out so he can finish it. Hopefully when the anime returns Tite Kubo can extend the arc to its complete form.

I liked the bankai stealing plot line. I agree it could have been fleshed out more. My issue was that the sternritter basically didn't need them. They were so astronomically more powerful than Gotei 13 and they had all these weird unexplained abilities.

I really wish Ywach used Yamamoto's Bankai to bring back Yamamoto and we finally got the Shunsui and Ukitake vs Yamamoto fight as a way to finally put their master to rest and have that be the moment Shunsui truly take the mantle of Captain Commander.

I do believe they couldn’t still his Bandai because it mixed with his hollow that was passed on by his mother. Their medallion was probably only able to steal Bankai/shinigami reiatsu. Ichigo’s bankai was shinigami/hollow so they couldn’t take it because they weren’t made for hollow reiatsu. So kisuke noticed it and analyzed the medallion and saw how it was made to function. Which is why he made the hollow pills so the Bankais were sent back.

Why steal Ichigo's bankai when you can just break it.

As nodt shredding byakukua is the most embarrassing fight ive ever seen in anime. I was legit just shocked.

Well, when you consider that their power can be considered WMD-class, and they range in form from a storm of thousands of petal-blades to a nightmarish baby-headed centipede to an embodiment of the power of the sun... OF COURSE THEY'RE FREAKIN' TERRIFIED OF BANKAI! While the Bankai-stealing Medallion was an interesting idea in that it created a countermeasure against shinigami captains, it was not executed very well. It's never explained how it works, there are inconsistencies on how separated the Bankai is from the wielder, and it didn't feel right that an enemy who is using Bankai for the first time can use it as well as the shinigami who has trained for decades with it. And yeah, the reason why they couldn't steal Ichigo's Bankai was because of his Hollow reiatsu being poisonous to them. Note that when the pills are taken, the Bankai immediately returns to its owner, meaning a Quincy's body will automatically reject Hollow reiatsu inside it if it can to prevent Soul Suicide, so that means that when Quilge tried to steal it, his body or a safeguard in the Medallion aborted the effort after detecting Hollow. Of course, this also means that Shinji, Kensei, and Rose would be ticked off that they didn't know this sooner, as their status of Visoreds meant that they could have gone Bankai against their enemy in the first invasion.

The way I interpreted Hitsugaya not hearing Hyorinmaru’s voice was that the Bankai Stealing Medallions took out a chunk of the consciousness of the zanpakuto, like they steal a portion of their identity. The reason why Hyorinmaru wasn’t speaking could have been that he was in shock that a chunk of his essence got ripped away like that; he was still technically there within the blade, but having that chunk removed left them spiritually hampered, both in power and in communication.

Yhwach made was thinking one step ahead of Yama when sent his soldiers to impersonate him to lower the old man’s gaurd. Remember we’re talking about a guy that had thousands of years to plan this revenge war and gain back all his strength which is why he needed to sneak attack the head captain. Just my thoughts.

i must say you really did go in depth with this, i do believe that you will be a good person to watch.

1) Your chanel has become my favourite by a long shot, and I am so happy for you because in 1 year 3 months the chanel grew from 40k to 120k. 2) I've always seen this Bankai snatching "technique" not so much as stealing them but rather blocking a Shinigami's ability to acces Bankai. It is explained that Quincies absorb reiatsu while Shinigamis emit it. So what if all it does is it prevents them from emiting more reiatsu and then just copying their ability. Maybe the medalion absobs it and then replicates it, maybe that is why Toshiro can't listen to Hyorinmaru cuz he can't acces Bankai. Idk that is the best I got. Jajajajaja

So first off; I definitely did love this because like you said it’s something that adds a real sense of danger very early on. I do like how quickly it is concluded to be honest because it’s something that doesn’t happen very often in my opinion in bleach, while yes it could’ve been better I think it was well done. And on the Ichigo thing; both people who tried to steal his Bandai were both considerably weaker than he was in terms of spiritual pressure. Not only that if I remember correctly it had something to do with the hollow inside him as well as the fact that he is a Quincy, and from what we see only one person was able to recall the Quincy power specifically. But even so the fact that he does have hollow powers would make it basically non viable. Again man thanks for the great content and keep up the great work!

I think kubo straight up forgot about ywach having yamamoto bankai cause after the shinigami got their bankai back through hollowfication, the whole quincies stealing bankai thing just disappeared, that scene where ywach stole yamamoto bankai was just to disarm him.

The idea of stealing Bankai was one of the worst decisions Kubo has ever come up with. It made no sense. It almost felt like he only introduced it so Yama couldn’t fight Yhwach at full power.

I love the Hollowfied Daiguren Hyorynmaru and how it gives Hitsugaya a little ice mask. I wish Soi-Fon's Bankai also underwent a slight chance, maybe turn the aiming portion of the missile launcher into a little DBZ scouter on her face.

The Bankai subplot was excellent. Also, Urahara mentioned that hollows are toxic to quincy. They can't coexist, they annihilate each other's existence. It's why Ichigo is so special, and they couldn't steal his Bankai; his soul is inherently mixed with a hollow's.

I actually really wish that it had been more of a bankai "sealing" subplot - make it so that Quincy's and their dominion over reiatsu makes it so that bankai's become unstable and unusable around them. I also wanted more of the quincy's depending on their own powers (and sheer reiatsu manipulation ability a la Ishida when he curb stomped Mayuri back in Soul Society).

I think they are able to steal a large portion of the zanpakto spirit when they steal the bankai, enough that what's left in the swords isn't able to talk with their users anymore, but they don't steal all of it, enough remains in the sword to allow shikai and thus enough is missing to prevent full use of the bankai by the quincy

I think that Byakuya said it well during the Zanpakuto Rebellion arc when he said that thanks to losing his Bankai he got to know his Shikai better and be more creative and effective.

What I can't comprehend, however, is why didn't they resort to kido? We saw the immense potential of kido and some of the characters, like Byakuya and Toshiro, have a talent for it. If Soifon could fall back on Shunko, why couldn't they fall back and supplement their skills with better kido? It feels as though it was a wasted opportunity.

The bankai stealing pisses me off for 2 reasons , 1. Byakuya and soi fon just jump into their bankai which is really out of character for both of them , byakuya is way to SMART for that and soi fon hates using her bankai . 2. The shinigami get their bankai back through hollowfication, and you think this is how the shinigami are gonna defeat the quincies , by using the hollow powers , which are poisonous to quincies , to their advantage in battle , but no the hollowfication is never brought up again and the quincies get hideously broken leading them to be defeated in disappointing outcomes . Kubo writing is so Damn inconsistent.

If I remember it correctly, Ichigo only used his bankai once in the entire bleach series. Previous bankais is kind of fake just like Renji its not his true bankai. The Zangetsu who is speaking with Ichigo is not his real Zanpakto. The real bankai of Ichigo kills the final boss with 1 page only. Then Bleach is over just like that

Ichigo's "bankai" wasn't his bankai. It was more his quincy power.

I mean I feel like the only reason why Kubo made this bankai stealing stuff is so that he could eliminate Yamamoto bc no single Sternritter can defeat him (not including Ywach). Heck, I have this feeling that he can kill almost all of the Sternritters simultaneously. Kubo needed to eliminate him so that the risk on the side of the shinigamis could be greater.

Oh but remember when Byakuya fought Tsukishima? He intentionally hurt himself with bankai. Maybe that's why when it was stolen, it sort of held back, but not like others, as Byakuya was prepared to be injured with his own bankai before. A ride-or-die there

When it came to soi fon the reasoning i came up why she doesn't seem to be affected by it's loss was because she hated it, whereas hitsugaya was so distraught by it because he had relied on constantly so without he started wondering what is he without it. Part of me wishes that the bankai stealing subplot was explored a little more. When it hitsugaya couldn't hear his sword spirit I was thinking this could be interesting maybe with loss of that they could create a new challenge. Like with the loss of their sword's spirit their ability to use shikai could have been affected too with either them only being able to use it one or two more times before they couldn't any more or have it revert back to it's base form in a middle of fight.

I think the Bankai-stealing concept still fascinated me to this day, I remember I was legit shocked the first time I saw the Bankai-stealing chapter, bc 4 of the fan-favorite Bankais were that easily stolen, and that made me truly feared the Sternritters. But I think the stolen Bankai issue was resolved too quickly in my opinion, I think it should've lasted at least until Ichigo finally arrived from the palace. But idk, that's just me.

i hope the anime will add new things for chojiro. like add a fight between him and some fodder quincy, showcasing the power of his bankai at full before Driscoll jump after the battle end and steals his bankai.

The stolen bankai were always one of my favorite twists, it was the moment I realized the first invasion was actually going to be a stomp, and made me actually concerned for the most beloved characters for essentially the first time in the series.

The lack of interaction/screentime with the zanpakuto spirits of the important Shinigami (in a canonical sense) is the only complaint I have with Bleach.

it was a neat plot twist but I didnt want the enemies to rely too much on the stolen Bankais instead of their own power. But it was cool to see some of the alternative methods they used.

You gotta remember Kubo was on a serious time crunch in order to satisfy the quota, I’m fairly certain there’s an interview where Kubo said himself he wish he had more tone to flesh out these amazing arcs

The why Hyorinmaru doesn't answer is because how shikai and bankai works. If I recall right shikai is more like about the captain drawing the power from inside the sword, Bankai is taking the sword spirit out, and that's even a pre requisite to attain bankai, u need to be able to manifest the zanpakutou spirit in the physical world. The medallion could be a portable and more secure way to do the Sklaverei on the zanpakutou spirit (which are reishi based) so the inner realm of the captain soul is still there therefore they are able to do shikai. But the spirit needed to be materialized to go bankai isn't there anymore. Kinda like the muramasa filler. They could still do shikai (albeit with more trouble than before) but because the Spirit aren't bound to them anymore they couldn't go bankai. But the Spirit could do both since the inner realm is shared and they were materialized in the real world

Qirge v ichigo and the arrancar is a really good fight, i really liked the quincy techniques and i was really hoping we got different stirnritters take on those techniques or mixing them with their scrifts but i get why kubo kinda dropped them.

Truly an amazing ability. The flash of panic on many Shinigami's faces sure made it clear that a bigger fish was in the pond. Complacency since they've dominated the afterlife since the start and their attempt to wipe out the competition came back to bite them hard.

I think that they couldn't steal ichigo's bankai because it wasn't his real blade, his hollow side and, most importantly, the Quincy side that also saved him from other Quincy abilities

This is when I realized Kubo waa rushing.... This was an awesome twist... That resolved entirely too quickly.

Although it was a filler arc, there were a lot of things in the Zanpaku-to rebellion arc of the anime that had tie-ins in the TYBW arc--the forms of several of the Zanpaku-to spirits (as far as I know, generally designed by Kubo for the anime arc anyway), the supremacy of asauchi, 'swords that still have the potential to become anything' and even these stolen zanpaku-to spirits. Even though the spirits separate themselves from the shinigami, they are eventually able to call upon their shikai again as they do battle with their zanpaku-to spirits. Why? It's never really explained, but based on how Toshiro reacted, I really believe the essence Kubo was trying to get across is that, because of the Bankai being the 'externalizing and subjugating' of the zanpaku-to, this allowed the Quincies, who specialized in taking in reishi and spirits that were not their own and putting them to use, to take the Bankai, and in so doing did take the spirit of the zanpaku-to as well. For whatever reason, there was enough essence left inside the shinigami to use their shikai with more training, just as in the rebellion arc, but when the Bankai were returned to them, so were the spirits--thus Toshiro could speak to Hyorinmaru again. As for using the Bankai in the first place--the captains, particularly Byakuya, explained it well. Chojiro wasn't able to finish his message, because of the way Japanese order their sentences (Subject-Object-Verb) but they inferred that they could do something to the Bankai, probably seal it. But if they were afraid of something happening to their Bankai and just didn't use them, it would be a victory for the Quincies right from the start, because the captains would all be fighting at a fraction of their power. Their reasoning was sound--figure out what they do to Bankai, so that a countermeasure can be figured out and they can use them again. The idea that the Bankai could be stolen, however, that a part of themselves could be stolen and used by the enemy, never occurred to them, and they appropriately kind of freaked out and lost all sense when it happened, quickly just shouting, "WHOA, NOBODY BANKAI, THEY STEAL IT, THIS IS AWFUL!" although with some more thought and reason it was probably that only 1 Bankai could be stolen by an enemy at a time. And I thought it was very clear by Ichigo's Bankai couldn't be stolen--they can't take Hollow power, and Ichigo has Hollow Power in him, which is why Urahara got it back for everyone by giving them an item that briefly hollowfied them.

I thought of it as the Shikai is a manifestation of the energy you put into the sword - like setting the stage that the Bankai spirit attracts to so they can begin to talk and learn the name. So with Hitsu, he's still able to set the stage and make the invitation, but the spirit doesn't come to the table. Based on the prevention measure being to hollowfy the Bankai, I'm fairly certain it was White preventing Ichi's theft.

I feel like the fact that the zanpactou is a part of their soul is why they able to use shikai even with the spirit gone. Zanpactou Rebellion was a filler arc but it gave some key detail on the zanpactou connection to the owner

One of the possible reasons for Hitsugaya to join the rookie training, might be that because he was a soul reaper prodigy. In his backstory you can see that he had incredible spiritual pressure before he even went to the soul reaper academy. His true talent might have been a reason he didn't need years of "basic training". If he was able to awaken his zanpakuto power very early (which is implied) he might have been building his fighting style completely on Hyorinmaru and therefore kind of neglecting the simple basics. It's only logical that you go back to the basics when all you're used to got taken away.

The reason they introduced bankai being stolen was probably to set up a moment where Yama would have a believable defeat. Also, most captains with bankai were stronger than the Sternritter* (CORRECTION), even in Volstandig.

It was interesting however we never see Bach use Yamamoto’s bankai. Would be interesting if the sword spirits try corrupting their captors and make them free them. I find it weird that, we never see the soul reapers use their spells like hado and such. This is a stretch but, would it be cool if Bach stole everyone’s bankai and used their spirits or the abilities against them. Then in a ridiculous anime moment, everyone gives ichigo their bankai abilities and ichigo does a combined getsuga attack fused with the power of everyone’s bankai.

I mean, an odd source to draw from, but the Zanpaktou Rebellion filler arc also had the Shinigami being able to use their Shikai despite their Zanpaktou spirits being separated from their swords. Similar concept maybe? So maybe the spirit does get separated, but the sword still has a bit of the power from the wielder.

with regards to them still using their shikai although the bankai is gone i think its attributed to the shikai and bankai having different names like zangetsu turns to tensa zangetsu. for more clarification watch/read when ichigo first meets tensa zangetsu

I would have preferred some more, like if BG used Soi-fon's in ways to make her appreciate her own bankai more, or really show off the captain's fighting against the bankai and winning. Like with Komamura, if whatever bit he summoned with his Shikai were removed from the Bankai or something.

The Almighty should be the ability to create unlimited quincy. He would then be able to actually utilize the bankai he stole like Zanka no Techi.

I think that the reason why they can still use shikai even after losing their zanpakuto spirit (speculation) is because it becomes a part of their own ability, the reason i think this is that in soul society arc byakuya mentioned that after you achieve bankai you can use your shikai without calling out the name of the zanpakuto, which makes me think that shikai is now part of their own ability or at least can be accessed without needing to call upon the zanpakuto spirit

The line about the Bankai vanishing when the Shinigami dies might not apply to those stolen via Medallions. The fact that they couldn't use Vollstanding while they possessed a stolen Bankai could mean that the Sternritter temporarily adopts it as their spirit; the fact that the Captains can still use Shikai, and the fact that the Hollowfication worked, shows the connection between the Shinigami and their Spirit isn't fully severed. It could be that the Quincy could fully absorb a Bankai once the Shinigami is dead, but we never really see that. It could also be a product of The Overkill, rather than a feature of the Medallions themselves, but again it's hard to say. The only other character who kills the Shinigami whose Bankai they stole is Yhwach, and he never uses either Zanka no Tachi or Vollstanding. Accordingly, it could be that Driscoll using Koko Gonryo Rikyu after Chojiro's death was due to his Schrift

One tiny thing that bothered me was when it was stated that hollow reiatsu was a kind of lethal poison to the quincies, that even the tiniest exposure to it would lead to instability in reiatsu. It was never properly explained how the quincies were capable of easily subjugating hueco mundo and its inhabitants seeing as how the place was a cesspool of hollow reishi. To propel my point, Quilge Opie absorbed reishi from the surrounding environment, Ayon, and even bits of Ichigo's reishi: both of which would surely contain traces of Hollow reishi. To note, it was previously stated in the manga that arrancars are not hollows per se. I concluded that the two were different on more than one aspect but were fundamentally similar seeing as how arrancars are just "evolved" hollows. I just can't see the line for dichotomy between the two. (these are obviously just my own words, so pardon if I might sound condescending)

I mentioned this in reply to someone, but I find interesting just how Sasakibe was this "filter" that prevented Soul Society from being too savage; one thing they mention about the "First Division" is it isn't merely just the power and leadership of Yama but "the heart" of the group. They were ruthless murderers prior to Yama being humbled by his future vice-captain and then once he died, they were ruthless again first with Yama unleashed and then with Shunsui's leadership. I sort of find interesting how little we know of Yama's VC, yet he is so crucial with all this (let alone the London thing...I sort of wonder if "Burn the Witch" will have any secret history we don't know about him)

I don't really know much about bleach. I only use to watch pages where Aizen appears and some videos about Aizen ofc. Since he's cool, you know.. He kinda keeps me interested in bleach world overall. So ye.. I saw this ability, didn't knew what it was, or what its suppose to do. But i know that quincy is like royal blood of bleach i believe, so ye.. Lets check this out.

I think I can explain why the Toshiro could not hear his zanpakuto after his bankai was stolen from him. (I am not 100 percent sure about what I am saying though) I think the only thing you need to know when preforming shikai is just the name and release command. In order to preform bankai, you have to have more time with your bankai...I think you have to be more personal and up close with your zanpakuto. I am thinking that because when Renji crashed into Ichigo's bankai training, and I believe he said, we have been talking for a while (or something to that likeness), which I think we seen before hand in the prison scene. On a side note, personally want to see an story when Toshiro is older (like Yamamoto's age). I could picture him to be like a hermit leader. Preferring to talk to his zanpakuto, even when others are around.

I think it made sense for they to steal bankai. Yhwach shows in the fight against Ichibei that he can somehow "steal" powers and that all the power belongs to him, so I've always thought that the device was created using this "stealing power" Yhwach has.

If I'm not mistaken, I think it was implied that it was because the sword Ichigo had been using wasn't his zanpakuto, it was just his quincy powers. Oetsu said it himself that no zanpakuto has ever been born without an asauchi. So, they couldn't steal his bankai, because there WAS no bankai. What he'd known as Zangetsu up to that point was more akin to a Quincy's Spirit Weapon (albeit more sophisticated) but it wasn't a zanpakuto.

When I first saw Uryu breakdown and absorb Reishi in the Seireitai, I always thought that Uryu/Quincy in general could break down Shinigami reishi themselves. I guess I kinda predicted this bankai stealing power
