Squire was always amazing, and his guitar work in the second coming was fantastic. I love that album.

I don't understand the hate towards their second album, its brilliant. I think this is one of their most underrated songs.
@Deathshuck9 жыл бұрын
Cody Turning I never understood the dislike for the second album, it's just as good as the first. Breaking Into Heaven is my most listened Roses tune of all-time and while it's definitely underrated, it did make it into the Best Of albums.
@lestranged6 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. Second album is one of my all time favorites. So much scorching guitar and long dreamy songs. What more could you ask?
@erwinc.91175 жыл бұрын
It just came out at an unfortunate time. The original stone rose craze has died down, and the album chose the worst years to hit the market: with parklife, definitely maybe and dog man star before it in 1994, and with the great escape, what's the story morning glory, different classes after it in 1995. Just unfortunate....

I am not sure Second Coming is hated? Fans love it - the songs Reni drums on Breaking into heaven, daybreak, tears, love spreads are classic and demonstrate how utterly incredible the roses could be. As a band they could hang with anyone I reckon. They truly are more than the sum of their parts. You have an incredible bass player, a best of generation guitar player and best of all time drummer - But when they play together they become truly special - and of course they wouldbnt be a zietgest crushing group without the immensely charismatic Monkey King. I think second coming gets a kicking in some corners because after the sheer splendour of the first record there was always bound to be some drop off - that record is timeless and caught the mood of the nation. It would have been brilliant if they had have kept going to see what they would have put out. And Reni is one of the greatest ever - I mean its totally subjective term but he is one of a kind in my book, You get lots of videos with people copying or breaking down parts by the likes of Bonham and Purdie - but very rarely do Reni videos actaully sound like the man - his style is so unique. Its not in the nature of Roses fans to compare musicians - its a waste of time - but I reckon that is why he isnt in these greatest drummers of all time lists - its rock and metal fans who get into all that he can play a million notes a minute bs....

I brought the album the week it was released and I played it daily for months. I was 15 I think. Loved it. Very different to there first and very different to turns into stone b sides. Record. But Loved the hard rock'n'roll guitar licks. Sick Record top ten for sure for me

Leaving aside Ian's performance, the band was 100% tight and amazing. And what is this riffery that goes on and on and excites? Like Jimi Page and Hendrix blended into liquid. A band truly like no other.

I think at the time we were expecting album 2 to be closer to album 1. I remember being totally shocked when I first played love spreads despite the fact I was a Led Zep, Peter Green, Free, Sabbath, purple, Motorhead etc fan . Had Ten storey been the comeback single then the album would have got less initial hostility in the press etc. I love 2nd coming now and have done since putting aside the demands of my preconcieved expectations but intially it wasn't what I expected from The Stone Roses , yet had page and plant put it out in 94, I and millions of others would have loved it immediately and raved about it's greatness. There is perhaps a lesson there somewhere🙂

For a band that from two albums that might have sold a couple million copies the mark they left on music culture in the country is unreal to 20 years after they spit up to play 3 gigs to over 250000 in a weekend just forever legends

@lfcwhitman5 John Squire is jaw-dropping. You get the lot that's like "their 2nd was a travesty", and then you get the lot that's like "DAMN, Squire knew how to play, he just blamed it on the engineer for making them sound like Herman's Hermits on the first record." Look, they sat down, got stoned, watched 'Song Remains The Same' and realized, "We ARE the preeminent band of our generation, let's showcase it!!!" But it was a little before Oasis Paul Weller, and Ocean Colour scene peaked." Gods.

Maddix wasn't that bad, just Reni was so good. He had such a loose funky feel that could play around the beat. Maddox was technically good but lacked the feel.
