The story behind the One-Cent Magenta stamp worth $9.5M

The Smithsonian is now home to the world's rarest stamp worth $9.5 million. The One-Cent Magenta has been hidden from view for a significant part of its more than 150-year history. Thanks to luxury shoe designer Stuart Weitzman, the stamp is now on display for all to see. Jan Crawford reports.

I gave a short speech about this stamp in my speech class in 1958. It was worth only $250,000 at that time. Wow! 9.5 million is nothing but inflation. I also learned history from stamps.

Out of sight, out of mind. No stamps appear on the letters these days. Why would one strive to buy a missing stamp if noone is collecting stamps? It will likely prove to be a bad investment.

Mister Witsman, congratulations for getting that stamp, and the story is great. I am a stamp collector since the age of 8, but I don't have valuable stamps...just what I can afford. And Peole give me their stamps, because they are of no interest to them....but I love them. Great story. David

Well established stamp collecting Britain London but one thing is missing weekly magazine before decimalisation 1970 stamp collecting in shillings weekly magazine not found anywhere around the world

There are some people out there with too much money. I never buy any brand name clothing, shoes, or any other products. There is no way I will ever support a brand or their people.
