Andrew Ryan, IMO, is a textbook example of a fallen hero. He went through hell multiple times in his life, and had some truly great ideas, but in the end, he succumbed to evil, and became the very thing he hated so much.

Andrew Ryan went through hell and I can see how he developed his ideology. However a combination of his ideology and his ego was his downfall. His self determinism was a factor into why he allowed jack to kill him, he not only wanted to make a point to jack but also wanted to die on his own terms which he ultimately got.

@@monad_tcp the power Fontaine gained was completely contingent on underwater, superpower giving, drug like slugs. Keep in mind that Rapture was a single closed off area. If someone wanted to compete with Fontaine they could open up their own business, but not when their is limited space and resources. Now I ask if there is always power, then what is that power? It obviously wouldn't be governmental or statist power. Raptures fall was due to only a limited ability to compete in the market as well as unrealistic slugs.
@monad_tcp

@@anunknownentity1637 " then what is that power? " in nature there are two different systems of information, centralized and decentralized. power comes naturally in any centralized system, decentralized systems dilute it, there are advantages and disadvantages to each, we probably need to strike a balance of both, (like you have a centralized brain and a distributed nervous system at the same time) There will always be power, as long as energy/information flows, it will concentrate, its a natural law. Markets only follow the same laws all else follows. Rapture really fallen when the market was seized by a single entity, thus it stopped being a distributed system, a market only works as long as its a distributed system, if it becomes centralized, then its no better than any government.

The story of Andrew Ryan is one I’ll never forget, despite how fictional his character may be. He was such a complex person. He wanted to give everyone their own work with no one else getting the ‘shares.’ He used his life’s money to create a society hidden from the rest of the world so he and people who also believed in his ideals could live in peace. It’s such a wonderful idea, however unrealistic. I like to believe he had more faith in humanity than what should be given considering ego, greed, and narcissism. However, people who followed him eventually fell apart due to classic humanity flaws, such as ego, greed, narcissism, and ultimately insanity (thanks to the ADAM). He had to become the very thing he hated to try to keep order among his city, and ultimately, with the help of Jack (just my opinion here) realized Rapture could never be the utopia he wanted. And rather than fall as an enemy to his city, he chose to help his son realize he was being controlled while also choosing to die with his fallen city. He had amazing utopian ideas that on a realistic level, can never happen with the flaws of humanity. It’s beautiful and horrifying at the same time.

Ryan had something going; however, he got stuck to his ideas and he had too much pride. You're right, Ryan ignored the side effects of the ADAM. He felt if he tried to stop the ADAM, he would have became what he hated, censorship. He also ignored the dangerous experiments that was going on in Rapture besides dealing with Fontaine. He wanted to keep Rapture a secret and didn't tell the citizens that once they go to Rapture, they will stay there for life and can't leave no matter what. He also became paranoid when Johnny Topside showed up and he turned Johnny into a Big Daddy. Ryan's ideology had so many flaws. His ideas made him the very thing he despises. At the end, the good ending, Jack became the father that Ryan couldn't be.

He does act like like he was above everyone else. When the problem came, all he had to do was act and deal with the problem before it gets worse, but he didn't showing his arrogance. He had an off button at the palm of his hands, but he never push it. Ryan made Rapture to escape the parasite, but he never understood that the parasite was human nature. @@radioactiveranch9637 Eh anarcho-communism has never existed, and we've had governments pretty damn close to anarcho-capitalist in the past, it usually includes slavery to some degree, and workers living in shitty, disease ridden corporate-run towns or tenements. Yeah naw my guy, it really doesn't work. Furthermore, the Soviets weren't communist, like, at all, communism by definition requires zero state, and the USSR definitely had one, it also requires the abolition of money, which again did not happen, and democratic rule with zero hierarchies, which it was a "democracy" in the sense some people voted, but it was high up party members, not the people, and it definitely was a hierarchal society. Lenin and the crew were a bunch of fucking sociopaths who used the guise of socialism to assume power (they were the minority communist movement btw in Russia, even though they named themselves the minority, and they seized control of a somewhat democratic government that had been installed after the fall of the Tsar), but very quickly abandoned the liberation of the working class, instead of installing an oligarchy not all that dissimilar from the monarchy previously in terms of the concentration of power. Communism, and I know I may sound like every other leftist, by its very definition, has never been tried. Instead what we've seen routinely is people utilizing a guise of socialism to assume power, only to distort the fuck out of socialism, or actual socialists assuming power, only to be met with international sanctions or a coup funded by the west (The CIA has a dirty ass track record of toppling democratic governments when they elect socialists, even when they're not democracies but air-quoted, but rather, legitimate democracies). So yeah, anarcho-capitalism, is a shitshow, and communism, let alone anarcho-communism, has never been attempted or been given a fair chance at all. Signed, a former objectivist who sucked Ayn Rand's dick and now wishes that cunt never was born, with her weird-ass fucking rape apologia for a narcissistic, sociopathic, piece of shit (seriously her work is legitimately disgusting). Also she died on government assistance, the fucking irony lmao.

Rapture was doomed to fall due to Ryan's own flawed philosophy. Objectivism, capitalism, and individualism all lead to misery, division, civil war, poverty, and self destruction. Hell Ryan's unregulated free market capitalist system is what allowed fontaine to become filthy rich and build himself an empire almost as powerful as Ryan's. Ryan also condemned the poor to die which is why many poor people flocked to fontaine home for the poor. Ryan became a tyrannical dictator when he realized to late that objectivism is what led to the civil war.
@anunknownentity1637
@anunknownentity1637 4 жыл бұрын
@@Jew-Gi-Oh_419 I believe Communism and Collectivism lead to misery, division, civil war, poverty, and self destruction. Capitalism and Individualism value the individuals decisions and choices as opposed to beliefs that force others to conform to the ways of Communism and Collectivism. An unregulated free market does need regulations, but governments interfering and bailing out large corporations is far from unregulated and that is the current system in the United States. Capitalism has done great things to life hundreds of millions out of poverty and it leads fulfillment with life. There are not many ideologies that I believe to be more dangerous than the collectivist-Marxist ideologies. Equality of outcome is not a good thing because not everyone is equal, not everyone has the same skills, interestes, and abilities. The simple fact is that one idea values the individuals choices as opposed to them being forced to make certain choices. I really enjoy this game but it makes Andrew Ryan a straw man of Capitalism. A man who doesn't care about the poor and thinks that everything should be unregulated and privatized. This is something that does not accurately reflect the views of those who support Capitalism and Individualism.

Andrew Ryan is magnificent case of genius gone insane. Just like person he critiques upon was undeniably intelligent and went grandly crazy. That means his world-view became horribly twisted and inhuman. Not to mention hypocritical as well. He chose himself. Everything in the world was for him and him alone. Utterly sociopathic point of view and he even managed to get others to believe in it. Whole huge technical achievement of building underwater city AND keeping it secret (ot at least separate) went to waste. Not to mention not regulating anything will eventually lead to stagnation as businesses use all their resources trying to sabotage their competitors. You can always be best if there is no competition and if competitor has better product steal it of destroy it. Whole conflict between Fontaine and Ryan was just that. Fontaine had better product, Ryan tried to take it. Fontaine had resources to take it back. Yay - Rapture goes to hell and nobody wins.
