The Story Of Animale Animale
I've always loved a great-smelling cheapie that lasts a long time and Animale Animale by Animale is one of those fragrances. I had the great opportunity to chat with Jeffrey Dame of Dame Perfumery who was involved in the launch and creation of Animale Animale back in the early 90s. Jeffrey and I discuss what it took to launch this groundbreaking cheapie fragrance that came 2 years before Thierry Mugler's A*Men but 2 years after the groundbreaking Thierry Mugler Angel for women.
Parlux Animale Animale is still around today after 20+ years and it has a certain following in the fragrance community. I still wear it and I do love wearing it. I love the fact that it sort of reminds me of A*Men by Mugler and also Pure Malt and Pure Havane. It's kind of like taking those three very popular Mugler fragrances and coming up with one that smells like the three. Really good stuff.

Very interesting Interview. I wore this a lot back in the early 90s as my go to scent. I missed so much that I ended up purchasing both animale animale and animale vintage. I didn't know the formula hadn't changed much.. so now im motivated to buy the more current bottle.

I use to wear this in 1995 when I was a freshman in college. I bought it but it wasn’t popular back then. Polo sport and Tommy Hilfiger was in. I was the only one wearing this. As an 18 year old it was a lil to grown for me back then, the overall nose has changed. Meaning, the youngins are wearing what a grown man would wear nowadays, back then a young fragrance was fresh and fruity., minty sometimes. Nowadays fragrances are pretty much universal

I live in Central America and this stuff is everywhere! Abused, oversprayed, mainstreamed. I personally can't stand it because I smell it on the bus, walking down the street, in the clubs. Every construction worker wears this and re-applies after working hours..

I have bought Animale Animale for men, because I wanted a cheaper fragrance in my collection, because in my country (Italy) is quite unknown, (I have discovered it thanks to your video!) Well, I like very much the angel-like opening (it reminds me of Angel by Mugler, 1992), but the drydown...oh no! It gives me depression, it smells so out of date, so old and I cannot distinguish any of the notes... It reminds me the odour that I perceived at the gym when I was a teenager in the early 90's, a mix of cheap after shaves and shower gels. Not my cup of tea, i don't know if I will use it again, perhaps I think it would be better for a very mature man (in his 60's...), so I will send it to my father for his birthday :). Surely in 1994 was good.... But we are in 2021...and there is a lot of stuff out there. P.s. I don't know if in 1994 I'd like it, in comparison, for instance , a fragrance as JOOP homme or Ck one was much more modern, much more deep.

This was really interesting. I hope you can do more videos like this. I haven't smelled this one but from what I understand it's generally something people wear in the fall/winter. However, your guest talks about it being big in Latin and Central America. Isn't it generally hot there? So it's popular in hot climates???

Colin Green Latin America and South America. South America has full on winters so I can see them wearing this stuff in the winter but they probably wear it in the summer too. I don't know if there really are rules about when to wear fragrances. If it feels good and smells great to you wear it! :)

you would be surprised, my wife LOVES me wearing Amen (she is latin, dominican) in the middle of the summer! It's insane! lol if you look at latin cuisine, you will note the heavy use of spices, so its something like we are used to strong, heavy spices and all sorts of smells so something like amen will feel fresh compared to the herbs and spices being used in a latin home's kitchen :)

i find the projection 3/4 hours on my skin animale animale dont know were its made i think in the usa. for 30$ a bottle its good juice . thierry mugler amen much refine but its over 100 $ for 100ml . they smell almost the same but projection on my skin over 8 hours.

Sadly I think this has been reformulated and neutered. Unfortunately the company that owns the brand now didn’t heed this gentleman’s advice regarding leaving something that’s working alone. Sad how reformulations are absolutely plaguing the industry.

Indeed the Animale brand has great acceptance within latin america, especially here, in Brazil. Why Jeffrey Dame 's name is not in Fragrantica or basenotes as the nose behind the creation? :(

Ok. The closest thing I can compare this is to Amen by Mugler. Different openings but dries down similar.

I have been wearing Animale Animale since 1995. I'm one of those people who loves Prada L'Homme but you can't wear it all the time. I had worn Angel for Women before Angel Men existed and I think Animale Animale is more interesting.
