Many thanks to Aaron of Howland Excavating in Mayfield, NY for showing us Big Red, his gasification outdoor wood boiler. He built it, installed it, and has been using it for about twelve years now.

Wow thanks for sharing! Thats a gasser I could get into as its more mechanical than electronic! I didnt get a scale of the machine until you got close LOL 10ft WOW! Truly BIG Red lol. I watched the whole video and I like how the door opening is the bottom. No deep well like our classics. Easy to clean out for sure. I like the air tubes on the side thats different from others which are on the bottom. I love this basic gasser system. I dont see any computers which makes me happy lol

I learned more about gasification wood boilers that day with Aaron than any other time and I am still trying to digest some of the information. Yes, no deep well and easier to clean than ours, I think (it's still a big machine). And Big Red burns less wood than mine. I know that classic boilers are no longer available in NY state and I would have to go gasification if something bad were to happen to mine. A new world of possibilities...

My turning off point with central boilers new gasser is it NEEDS seasoned stick wood. These "mechanical style" gassers like Aarons are cool and im more on board cause you can burn anything in it (like our units now) from what others have told me there are other boiler companies that make "mechanical gassers" no computers. Thats why I dont want the new CB unit. Its nothing against the company I just dont like how it NEEDS seasoned split wood. Ive gotten dozens of emails stating the same thing that the CB HDX series thrives off CLEAN seasoned split wood which is great if you have it but I think its a tougher standard to uphold for only about 30-40% wood savings. If I could by what Aaron made id sign on the dotted line immedietly because he took conventional and gasser tech and made one PERFECT balance if you ask me. That machine is killer. I watched the whole video lol @@oviduran

Thanks Jay. I do admit it was a long video. A CB HDX series would be bad for me because I struggle with seasoned wood. Half of all the wood I burn is not there yet. I just have to make sure mine lasts as long as possible. Gotta get that creosote cleaned out come Spring!

Aaron here. Thanks for the kind words Jay. I have a lot of thoughts on some of the commercial units on the market. I do a lot of welding for people so I have had the opportunity to see the inner workings of a lot of these units. Seems like In the past, I was the local guy that ended up repairing these boilers. Not as much anymore, I was always short but big (bodybuilder) but I'm getting a fat gut the last few years lol so its tough to climb inside these now! Anyway, There is still a lot of info I didn't cover in the video. You just can't think of everything. Some things I could have clarified a little better etc. I will ask Ovi if he would like to do a follow up video. If there is any public interest in it. IDK, my better half, she says I never shut up lol. So maybe there will be no interest in a follow up.

Wow! The bottom door where the gases are burning was that a wad of asbestos materials he just pulled out? I would definitely be wearing some kind of mask to prevent inhalation since there is a lot of air moving around.

The last time asbestos materials were sold was back in 1989. The boiler is about twelve years old and he mentioned it was fire resistant "insulation". A very common material which has many uses like withstanding high temperatures. Most hardware stores sell it today.

it is mineral wool insulation. Roxul, it is used in the bathroom walls of most new construction for its moisture resistance. And also in areas where additional fire protection is needed. it is less toxic than standard fiberglass insulation and also fire retardant.

@oviduran I just googled it. USA stopped making the materials containing asbestos in 1989. Lowes and Home depo does carry the insulation used in Big Red. I also read that asbestos materials are still imported to the USA.
