I read a story where General Patton’s men unlawfully tapped into the canal while setting up the desert training center during WWII, but then later got permission. I found a hatch in the city of Perris (between Mt Sanjacinto and Lk. Matthews) that was above that tunnel. A scary amount of water rushes through that thing. Crazy that there is a tunnel connecting Palm Springs to Lk Mathews !

An amazing accomplishment. When the narrator said that it was finished in 1941 my first thought was just in time for the war effort.

Now watch the Jack Nicholson movie "Chinatown"; a work of fiction, but the events of the construction of the water system are accurate.

There's a canal that runs through escondido and valley center, maybe more towns and cities. I live in escondido. Anyway the canal is called the flume and it travels through indian reservations, backyards, and hills. Right now it's empty. But when it rains here it starts flowing good. I don't know what it's for. But me and my friends are gonna swin and ride on it on intertubes when we are older. It's amazing!!!! We love it!!!

This is what made America a good place to live. If they can do this, why the hell can’t they take care of the people that live on the streets?!? Not so great after all since its those same people that are so corrupt and greedy that refuse to even bat an eye to the less fortunate. Just want to keep lining their pockets.

Unfortunately you can't raise the salinity of a fresh water river like that without doing environmental damage to all the living things in it. Everything from the smallest microorganism on up would be affected which in turn would affect land animals that eat things from the river and then, in turn, humans. Not to mention plant life as well. It would be catastrophic.

Move the Water! is the project you should support then. Except that Move the Water! proposes importing water into Death Valley. Once in Death Valley the water will reallocate fresh desalinated water via natural processes to areas of need via evaporation and subsequent rain/snow fall events. The weather pattern in the area will assure that a portion of the water is dropped into the Colorado River headwaters. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rLh6rKaHvafUcZ8.html

Thousand gallons of water wasted though evaporated each day.
@climate-rescue5805
@climate-rescue5805 2 жыл бұрын
Evaporated water is not wasted. Yes, it does not meet the intended purpose of the pumped water, but the evaporated water is returned as rain which is welcomed all over the desert. Certainly not a waste. Remember that he headwaters of the Colorado River are created from rain & snow which are the result of evaporated water. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mNB4q86pt72lo2Q.html
