Listen to the story of Diablo 1 & 2 as told by Deckard Cain from his journal, originally available on the Blizzard website. All credit for the artwork in the video goes to Blizzard and various artists. Please note that some parts of the video have been blurred to avoid copyright issues with artwork that is not within Blizzard's copyright domain.
4k footage was obtained with the Diablo 1 Belzebub mod. Diablo 2 was recorded with Sven's Glide Wrapper.
If you are planning to play Diablo 1 or 2 again, check out The Hell 2 mod for Diablo 1 and
Median XL for Diablo 2. These are awesome mods and improve the gameplay significantly.
I have seen complaints about audio balancing, use headphones for the best experience and check volume balance in your audio settings.

It's amazing how good of a job the voice actor did for Deckard Cain. I almost wish he would start making audio books.

I only found out last year that Cain was voiced by Michael Gough, an actor in many movies (live action).

@@pennywar4677 That's a different Michael Gough (a fairly famous British character actor), the guy who voices Deckard Cain is an American voice actor who pretty much exclusively does animated stuff, he's the voice of Zazu in the Lion King for example. Totally different people with the same name.

@@justinsnider9772 there is a fan base for D1 playing two fan made versions one called "Diablo The hell mode" and the other "Tchernobog" they are both free and have their own discord and use Zerotier or Hamachi to play online

Cookiesliyr cool, glad people are still enjoying it, I remember being 11 and looking forward to the weekend when I could wake up early and get my dad to hook up his laptop to our dial up internet and play diablo for a few hours. Played d1,2,exp for the next 12 years lol. Wish they would come out with the mobile game so I would have some time to play while I’m at work.

This is quite easily the best "the story of" I have ever, ever watched. I love that clips of the classic gameplay, the old CGI cutscenes, and the old voice overs from the game itself. Shit, man, this deserves more views.

Back in the day, my computer was so bad that Blood Raven's death animation would cause the game to crash. Eventually I ended up doing that quest via Open Battlenet, helped out as much as I could, and when I thought she was low enough I ran and hid in the crypts while the rest of the party killed her. Even when I got a new computer that could easily handle Diablo 2, I still did that for every new character because it was so habitual. But hey! Good show. :)

My computer was so bad. On single player, I was level 18 when I finally killed blood raven first time. Hella frame drops. Hard to fight a hord when they have the power of clip mode 🤣

What kind of computer was that? I had a Pentium 2 4 MB vga 64mb ram ( my first) and by the time I heard about diablo I had a core 2 duo and I played dungeon siege 2 on it but I don't know why I didn't play diablo back then. May be I had heard how dark and scary it was.

@@LouB3rt However, the problem now they shifting blame each other instead of taking the responsibility. That is why their member get fire and got replace one after another. The problem won't be gone for a very long time even if Resurrected release. Only hope for me, that it won't end up the same fate like that disaster WC3 reforged. Finger cross and also love to see the Epilogue title after Act IV will be change to Act V. That will be something different from the original and yet nobody want to mention that.

as someone who played Diablo 1 and 2 before I could read, and continue to play Path of Exile to this day, i enjoyed every minute of this. Reminded me of so many moments i had forgotten about, but when i saw this they all came rushing back. I wish i could see how many hours i sank into these games man.

I never got to level 50 in Diablo 1, only level 48 My first serious hardcore character was a druid (d2 ofc) and I was in shock for days when I died at level 86. Never played hc again lol

D1 max level was 50 with no hc option. D2 was the begining of hc for the series.

FeelsNostalgicMan, this was the first game I ever touched back in 1999, then I played Age of Empires and Comandos, but Diablo was unique and special, scared the shit out of me each time I went down a new level or opened a door and listen to new demons sound, so nice work dude ty for the trip back :)

That Paladin has got to have the funniest walk cycle I have ever seen. The move around like they have their own soulstone shoved into the wrong place... Loved the video by the way. As someone who has only played D3, getting the story beats from the previous two games in such a well encapsulated 2 hours is very helpful and enjoyable.

I have only played D3 as well but I knew about it for the longest time. Always wanted to play it though but for some reason couldn't. I played the hell out of dungeon siege and torchlight. Those 2 games ultimately led me to diablo 3. For a casual gamer these games can be too deep sometimes although D3 as easy to get into for playing story mode which is what I usually do. Also couch Co Op on PS3 with my cousin was the most enjoyable gaming time period in my life

I remember playing D1 after D2 and thinking "Where's the 'run' button?" I don't remember there being a portal to Butcher's room. I remember he was just in a room hanging out. You open the door and instantly poop your pants.

The video clips are from an updated version called Belzebub. I guess the copyright ran out or something and so a programmer updated it to work on modern PCs and also made a few changes to some of the bosses.

The portal bit was actually supposed to be in the original game as there are many bits of dialogue that go with it in town, including Wirt clueing you in on the portal by speaking backwards. Beelzebub restores a lot of cut content, like Horazon's Lair (Shown in the video) fighting Andereal in the woods outside Tristram, and several others. It's pretty fun.

I remember that. Open the door, and "Ahhh... fresh meat!" Then I'd run like hell for a bit(I wanted a sprint key too) and find a good spot to fight him. The thing I really loved about D1 that was the one failing(in my mind) in D2 was the randomized quests. Every time I played D1 the quests were different. You always started with the Butcher or the Skeleton King(sometimes both!) but after that there was some randomization that I really liked.

The memories! I played this for years till I grew up! Then I forgot about it when I went to university, then a decade later started playing D3 and now D4 is coming. For the past 3 decades, this game has been a big part of my life.

Thank you for this. I started with Diablo 2 when I was in 8th grade, I’m 31 now so you do the math, I remember this game consumed my life lol. I beat Diablo 1 on my grandmas computer after the 1.09 patch with a lvl 95 javazon with the constricting ring before they took it out of the game. It literally was taken off my characters finger. I was so mad, but back then you couldn’t really do much. Anyways, I just bought an old pc a couple years ago while I was in the navy and I played Diablo 2 again, it was still awesome but a lot of bots. Items weren’t as rewarding. I could never figure out how to do the whole modded D2 and always screwed it up. I briefly played Diablo 3 and I just didn’t like it. Also when LoD came out, those graphics were amazing! That being said, I am pumped for Diablo 4 Free Hong Kong Jeffrey Epstein was murdered... you know

You should at least give Median XL a try, that's a really popular mod. Just google "Median XL download" and its pretty straightforward these days. There's also multiple KZfaq tutorials for installation due to how popular its been. Its got a lot more endgame content and feels really different but worth a try.

I'm also 31 and played the he'll out of d1 and d2, I cant remember when my brither first got on his computer, but I loved playing it. I mightve been 5th grade when he got d2, but I watched him play d1 when I was younger. I still have both ganes on an emulator on my laptop and ive been playing d2 as much as my kids will let me lol. I just got to the 3rd act.

What the flying fuck are you on about? The ignorance is astounding. Just because you personally have closed your eyes and refuse to play modern games with great stories doesn't mean they don't exist. Story-telling in most 90s and early 2000s games consisted of "shoot this, die here, the end" I'd list the hundred plus games you haven't played in the past 10 years, but what's the point?

I was with you till you said 3. It's just not good. Good time passer. Was good to see the story continue on but that's about it. Where diablo 2 I could play 10 hours a day for Whole summer when I was young.

Very satisfying, though I stopped at the D2 lore since I’ll be playing D2R here soon. I love how you incorporated all aspects of the lore and scenes from the games. And how you showed all the ‘lesser heroes’ dying in the labyrinth before ‘the wanderer’ showed up. Well done!!

People keep saying this and I just don't hear it. Nevermind Connery's accent, but his voice is bold and deep and he says is "sh"s hilariously. Cain on the other hand is not as deep, and his voice is reminiscent of a creaking door. I can do a hella accurate Cain voice.... for some reason.

Never understood why they had to plunge the crystal into the wanderer's head. In D2, Marius carries Baal's soulstone for a while.

Suppossedly, he did it to prevent Diablo from taking another body and walking again on Sanctuary, using his own to incarcerate him, like Tal Rasha did in the past. Having bested him, he was the only one who was strong enough to keep the Lord of Terror on check. Best idea ever, right?

1. The Wanderer's EQ was full (very plausable). 2. He didn't want to drop any of his epic loot, yet he had to carry the stone (also very plausible). 3. He creatively made a new EQ slot in his forehead (not plausable. He would have used that potential slot way earlier to store a potion, ring or an extra dagger (yes!)).

Same here. I know it's been over 20 years since I last played it but I still remember my first encounter with The Butcher very well. I opened a door, he said Fresh Meat, I screamed, I ran, he chased after me, I screamed some more and ran some more. Cheesed him by staying inside a prison room/wall with bars and shoot him to death with a bow, although I was a warrior and my dex stats sucked. Took forever.

hi, play atleast the second part. one of the best well rounded arpgs and way better than that miscreated third part. and by looking at what blizzard turned into, the chances that the 4th part will be good aren't that high^^
