Take your hat off for that incredible mother. That family united to help a child chase his dream. Beautiful.

What is so cool is the grandma and grandpa angle. This kid/man has such cool humble beginnings. I think he was smart to leave the game before it destroyed him. Life is too short and he has more than made enough to last many lifetimes.

Why did he leave? Probably physical toll.

I had no idea Big Savage came from such a humble background. My respect for him, his mother, and his family has gone up a notch!

Humble, you mean his mom didn't have a fucking thing because his black father wasn't there to support him? Lol.

Byfuglien is that one player that always amazed me, and it was brilliant that Chicago used him as a centre for a while. Good to see that he's still playing too.

I used to play traveling ice hockey against Dustin's first-cousins back in the 80s. We never defeated Roseau once. The Rams were a dynamo, up and down the age brackets, from Squirt to Varsity Level. I remember staying at legendary Coach Dick Johnson's place, whom I'm sure Dustin had as a coach. He was nice to us, but to hear him scream during the game and the watch the results those kids gave him. Man! they were damn good. What a wonderful biography of Roseau and one of the Byfulgliens.

I'm a Chicago fan, not as much now since they got rid of buff, and I still have a few players that I like, hosa, Shaw, number 4, I can't even begin to spell his name, jammerson... Something like that, but my all time favorite was, is and always will be big buff... I'd follow him no matter who he played for...my man and such a gentle giant...hats off to you Dustin, and best wishes for no matter what you do...

He probably woulda been a good pro defensive lineman if he'd taken that route, but there's no better place to grow up if you wanna be a hockey player than Roseau MN. With Grandma workin to next to the ice rink at a place where she could make him sandwiches? Damn, that's livin the dream!

I was a big fan of Buff's before I had the honor of playing drums at his wedding party in Minneapolis. Great guy, great family. An integral part of the 2010 Cup Champs. All was amazing that night until the rap-off between Kris Versteeg and Blake Wheeler, when #26 dropped one of our 1500.00 microphones like it was hot.
