@@queenofthebutterflies5212 idk. What I know for a fact is she went to an ivy leauge school, Harvard or something, and came from a wealthy sophisticated family. While she lived in the house with Perry working as a prostitute for select clients at night (as well as doing drugs) , her day job was some kind of manager. Eventually she got clean . I know the attention caused distress for her and her family, to have a daughter known as a junkie in a family with a name, etc. part of the appeal of her to Janes was her aristocratic manners and the dichotomy of refined manners and taste and associating with criminal netherworld of heroin. She also supported the band in the beginning financially and to this day feels spiteful for never being compensated.

So i stand corrected....i got my info on Jane straight from what Perry said in some mag...i think Details or Spin...whatever the case is she was great muse material for Perry and inspiration for one of the best song to come from the ever-evolving Alt rock scene of the late 80's....

I used to work as a painter at Earl Scheib, in Cleveland Ohio. There was this older crack addicted lady that I worked with. One day she was telling me about how she would pinch cd's from customer vehicles. One day she said, she happened upon a "Jane's Addiction" cd and thought to herself "I'm gonna get me some help" she then told me she put it in the player, and "that was some heavy metal music" 😅 I'll never forget that, and Jane's Addiction will always be "Metal" to me

There’s a difference between being influential on musicians that create the music we all listen to and influential on culture/regular people. Janes was without a doubt more influential on actual musicians than Nirvana. There’s also a shallow media narrative picked up on by people that know nothing about how Nirvana did this and that… most media narratives about music are patently false. Nirvana certainly changed the industry and what our society listened to. But they didn’t influence musicians much, or at least not as much as Janes. Even Alice In Chains was more influential than Nirvana, a lot of post-grunge, nu-metal, later alternative bands leaned heavier on Alice than Nirvana. Likewise with Pearl Jam. Not too many people are singing like Kurt, writing songs like him, or even having bands that sound like Nirvana.

The explosion of so called alternative music starts with Janes Addiction. Without their success on the radio I doubt Nirvana would’ve been played much. Janes where the ones to open the gate, so to speak, for the explosion that happened after Nirvana. It’s strange how Jane’s Addiction is nowhere as popular as they once where they’re almost a footnote but i’ve always thought that the 90s started in ‘89 once Nothing’s Shocking finally got some momentum. This is my observation from being a big music fan then and seeing them live and all the buzz surrounding them in ‘87 and ‘88 you just didn’t hear that kind of music on mainstream radio until Jane’s. Nirvana was basically channeling Sonic Youth and I think more bands where channeling Jane’s more that Nirvana. Jane’s was pulling from funk, rock, punk and death rock. So I think its a fair argument that Jane’s was more influential.
