Marina Keller I think it's complicated. Justin was super young, at the height of his fame, and chased by lots of girls when he first dated Selena. He was kind of thrust into this surreal existence of fame and fortune where he could do no wrong and surrounded by people on a payroll that'd never tell him if he did. That was before the media turned on him and he could do nothing right. He was going to cheat on Selena. The recipe was there. Youth, curiosity, inflated ego, lots fame and money, lots of girls chasing ya. It was bound to happen even if he really loved Selena. But when someone cheats then trust is broken, and that can become like a sledgehammer on the one that broke the trust. Everything is met with suspicion. Every act becomes, not so much heartfelt, but a demanded pay back for reasons of guilt. Once someone is constantly accused or dealing with constant suspicion, they're gonna do it again cause they're getting punished anyway... whether they're loyal or not they're being treated like their disloyal. Eventually, it's like "If I'm gonna keep taking the punishment, I might as well just do the crime!" I think that was a big problem for Justin and Selena that neither could get past. I think he really loved her and hated how he ruined the relationship by cheating in the first place and after their last attempting in 2018 resulting in another break-up, which included counciling, he realized it was never gonna work. At the same time, I think he was born into these religious ideals of what it is to be a good man. I think he did feel a lot of guilt for hurting Selena and hurting himself. I think he beat himself up a lot for it. And instead of taking the time to go within and build his own confidence, as he should've done, he rushed to Hailey and is trying to find his confidence in her. That's why he's stuck to her like glue in way that I see as unhealthy. Even his recent Valentine of an album really isn't very loving so much as it's needy and clingy. In Hailey's eyes Justin can do no wrong, and he needs that when Selena and the world has spent the last few years telling him how much wrong he's done. So, he's nose-dived head first into ideals of what makes a "good guy". That why he was desperate to get married. He wasn't gonna be a "good guy," in his eyes, till he did the "right" things as dictated by his faith and society at large. Anyway, that's what I think.
