Күн бұрын

The colonial mansion of Temple Road, Mozang was once home to Amolak Ram Mehta, a public health officer who was also the father of the famous writer Ved Mehta.
In this episode, Fatma Shah the current house owner will explore the stories related to this mansion’s pre and post-partitioned residents and how life in Lahore transcends from yesteryear till today.
Through the sentimental significance of this house, Lahorenamah has tried to rebuild a past that seemed distant but can actually be experienced with ‘The Story of Mehta Mansion’.

My husband's grandfather was Advocate Meher Chand Sud who practiced in Lahore High Court in 1940 s. He resided in Anarkali Road. Partition was a traumatic event for the entire family, uprooting them from their idyllic existence in the beautiful city which they never forgot. My father in law recounted the details of his early life and schooling in Lahore many times and cherished those memories, expressing a desire to visit his childhood home till his last years.

@@quadravillage7110 they didn't steal. They were compensated for the properties they left behind in India. Similarly, the same happened with those who left their properties in Pakistan for India - I hope so. If it didn't happen then Indian gov is responsible for it. BTW, if you were so concerned about your property in Pakistan then you should not have left it. Please, seeing the things in right perspective is very important before accusing n judging others. My phoopho house is right opposite to this house. I myself have been to this house so many time. The ladies used to lived in this house were very loving. They were sisters of Dr mubashir and Shabbar. Its brought back so many my childhood memories. My phoopho house is still there and it's original pre partition condition.

For centuries they lived and thrived On that land they called their own A place where their ancestors survived And their culture and traditions shone But then came a time of division Of lines drawn on maps and hearts Of hatred and religious derision And the tearing apart of homes and hearths Those who lived there for thousands of years Were suddenly deemed outsiders and foes Their fate decided by rulers and fears And their lives upheaved in one cruel blow They were forced to leave their land behind To cross borders and start anew Leaving everything they knew and defined Their roots, their memories, their truth The reasons for their forced migration Were rooted in politics and strife A struggle for power and domination And the cost of human life But despite the pain and the loss they bore Their resilience and spirit remain Their memories and traditions they still adore And their hope for a better future sustain For they know that home is not just a place But a feeling that lives in the heart And their love and connection can never be erased By borders or lines drawn apart.

Amazing narration...your voice makes one live through the days gone by....glad , when you tell that the name plate still reads ' Amolak Ram Mehta ' and how the families who have sunbsequently occupied the house have made no effort to scrub the historical evidence , unlike , todays day and age where we all suffer from ' identity crises ' syndrome and miss no opportunity to put our stamp of custodianship...may be you can convert it into a heritage homestay , if it seems viable and lucrative ...otherwise , maintaining such mammoth structures will continue to be an arduous task , i say this because my family owns a small haveli , almost in a state of neglect and disrepair , it saddens me no ends to see it crumbling and i pray and hope that some day it is given a new lease of life and resonates and echos its long lost grandeur...thankyou for sharing this video with us ...im from Uttar Pradesh , India🙏

Thank you so much, dear Fatima, for sharing this endearing part of Lahore's history. I grew up in my Grandfather's (allotted) house at 12 Jail Road. Next to this house, stood an exquisite marble mansion ( also built pre-partition) at 16 Jail Road. Unfortunately both structures were neglected and destroyed by future generations. Hats off to you, your family and community for preserving the Mehta Mansion and promoting its long lasting tradition of inspiring its residents and visitors to achieve success and happiness.

Everything old and precious flew out with the Hindus and Sikhs. The culture, inclusiveness, richness, progress, art all went out. Now you are left with an Islamic state and begging bowl in hand. Still stand with Imaan, Muslim bhaichaara, Inshallah, Mashallah, almoodalala, and Allah will ensure the downfall.
@RamMohammadJosephKaur

@@neeleshfatterpekar5936 Sadly same is happening to muslims in India today. Constant harassment, destruction of their historic Masjids ( like the recent burning of a 110 Madrasa in Bihar by BJP goons which contained 4000 historic books too ) , altering history books to suit Hindutva propaganda, disenfranchising muslims and their contributions to India, and abuse by the right wing government . In his recent speech in Telangana, Amit Shah talked about taking away reservations for muslims in education. I'm scared for the safety of Muslims in India and their rights. Communal discord is already on the rise as evident by the recent resurgence of the Khalistani movement in Punjab because of the right wing government's overeach. One cant even question or criticise the government, as clearly seen when Amir Khan was abused when he rightly pointed out that intolerance was growing in India. Which shows India is turning into a dictatorship and Modi as the supreme dictator who remained mum on the Adani corruption case because of his obvious links to the billionaire and his offshore shell companies. South states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu already have increased animosity and do not like the central government because of the beef ban, manipulating the Indian constitution and going against the decree of an individuals right to eat what they want. Karnataka has also seen recent skirmishes because of the central government and Amit Shah's call for hindi imposition on south indian states causing more disintegration than harmony. So many constitutional rules broken, so much violence, so much propaganda, so many rights taken from the people. I think if this goes on, 2002 is going to repeat in India, only this time not just limited to Gujarat but in multiple states in India. Khalistan is just the beginning. If the Indian right wing government goes on this rampage, imposing their hindutva ideals, more states will ask for autonomy. All this will ensure the downfall of India. 😭

Hello respected madam, I am from Hisar, Haryana Bharat. Very nice information given by you about this beautiful home, which is now occupied by a family migrated from panipat haryana. In fact Panipat is a tehsil of karnal and first priminister of Pak is nawab of Karnal, including a huge property of three hundred village,he is a muslim league leaders,so if someone came under his leadership,they migrated to Pakistan otherwise, Muslim community still living in Panipat Haryana peaceful life style, Partion struk only punjab area,even rajsthan nuh, Mewat , gurugram Delhi, Malerkotla etc Muslim live peacefully, Respected, I am very younger then you,but still I really like to say you people should not leave their home, My best wishes for all of you.

Ab jo wahan bach gae wo to peacefully hi rahen ge obviously . Albata tumhari sarkar unko mazeed pacefully rehne nahi de gi.

@@abdullahbhai9161 hello respected sir, It is really true that,in many interviews from West punjab , people says that they are looted and killed by Sikhs, because Hindu community is a darpok caste, My relatives reside in Panipat, and Meerut, Delhi, Faridabad, and saharanpur, Kanpur, Lucknow,in rajasthan, nohar Bhadra, Rajgarh, sujangarh ect, Indore MP,in all these areas muslim community living with us peacefully like Ganga Jamuna tahjeeb. Still I didn't understand when we both community against British for our freedom why this migration is happened, In Haryana very muslim agitation against British with co-op of Hindu community, only to reside here not to leave their home land,so why this happened, my elders says Hisar City both the community living peacefully in fifty fifty of strength,same in Hansi,even a nawab of Hansi given death sentence with Hindu for freedom fight in front of their respective home,and their last rites of done by government against their community rituals, Hindu ko dafna Diya or mirja sahib ko Hindu ke tarike se jala diya,in freedom fighter ko partition ke waqt home land chhodna pada, jis ke liye wo fansi per chad gaya hai, I am really very much younger and birth after many decades of partition,but I feel sad because I really see the death' warrant of mirja sahib of Hansi with a Hindu,in original at Hisar district magistrate office. But still I really want, God bless you all.

@@ashwanisharma7853 May be you are right , but in pakistan we still used to read and listen the stories of sikh's brutality. Lakhon musalman qatal kie sikhon ne or lakhon hi migrate hoe. Hamare yahan aj tak is par novel likhe ja rahe hen jo log india se pakistan aye unhon ne apni ankhon dekhi baten baten hen. KZfaq par bohat se hindus ki bhi videos milen gi jinhon ne is bat ko confirm kia he. Zayadti dono taraf se hi hoe magar tumhari taraf se bohat zayada hoe he my dear.
