Summary(Important Notes) of The Stories of The Prophets- 33. The Story of Nuh - Part 1 Part-3 Personal note: السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته This is Part-3 of the summary. Part 1, Part 2, and Part-4 are commented in a different comment as the summary is too long to be commented on in one comment. The other comments are also in this comment box. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. The personal note ends... Section V: Surah Al-Mu’minoon, Ayah 23-29. The people of Nuh(AS) accused him(AS) of wanting to be superior and being insane. These are the same accusations as Quraysh gave to the Prophet(SAW). So We inspired to him, “Construct the ship under Our observation, and Our inspiration, and when Our command comes and the oven overflows, put into the ship from each [creature] two mates and your family, except those for whom the decree [of destruction] has proceeded. And do not address Me concerning those who have wronged; indeed, they are to be drowned. (Surah Al-Mu’minoon, Ayah 27) Allah commands him(AS) to build a ship. This Ayah shows that Nuh(AS) did not know how to build a ship, Allah gave that knowledge to him(AS). The exact same phrase “وَفَارَ ٱلتَّنُّورُ” (the oven overflows) is used here too. There are two meanings - it was a sign or it is metaphorical. فَإِذَا ٱسۡتَوَيۡتَ أَنتَ وَمَن مَّعَكَ عَلَى ٱلۡفُلۡكِ فَقُلِ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِي نَجَّىٰنَا مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ And when you have boarded the ship, you and those with you, then say, ‘Praise to Allah who has saved us from the wrongdoing people.’ (Surah Al-Mu’minoon, Ayah 28) وَقُل رَّبِّ أَنزِلۡنِي مُنزَلٗا مُّبَارَكٗا وَأَنتَ خَيۡرُ ٱلۡمُنزِلِينَ And say, ‘My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing place, and You are the best to accommodate [us].’ (Surah Al-Mu’minoon, Ayah 29) Section VI: Surah As-Shu’arah, Ayah 105-122. The language of this Surah is very powerful and the imagery is simply very good. Nuh(AS) advises his(AS) people to worship Allah and to obey him(AS) and that he(AS) is sincere. We learn once again that his(AS) people wanted him(AS) to get rid of the low class followers. And once again he(AS) declined and defended the believers. His(AS) people threatened to kill him(AS). فَأَنجَيۡنَٰهُ وَمَن مَّعَهُۥ فِي ٱلۡفُلۡكِ ٱلۡمَشۡحُونِ And We saved him and those with him in the laden ship. (Surah As-Shu’arah, Ayah 119) And so Allah said that He will save him(AS) in a ship “that was loaded to capacity”. This shows that there were a lot of things on the ship. ثُمَّ أَغۡرَقۡنَا بَعۡدُ ٱلۡبَاقِينَ Then We drowned thereafter the remaining ones. (Surah Ash-Shu’arah, Ayah 120) The phrase “ٱلۡبَاقِينَ”(the remaining ones) shows that this was a global event and the indication is towards the rest of mankind. Section VII: Surah Al-Ankaboot, Ayah 14-15. One key fact that is mentioned here and not anywhere else is the amount of time Nuh(AS) lived with the people - 950 years. Section VIII: Surah As-Saffat, Ayah 75-82. The language of Surah As-Saffat is synchromatic of the Makkan revelation. It rhymes and has powerful imagery. Nuh(AS) was threatened and felt powerless, and so he(AS) was trapped and stuck, he(AS) makes Dua to Allah to save him(AS) from them. Allah responds to him(AS). وَنَجَّيۡنٰهُ وَاَهۡلَهٗ مِنَ الۡكَرۡبِ الۡعَظِيۡمِ  ۖ‏ ﴿37:76﴾ وَجَعَلۡنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهٗ هُمُ الۡبٰقِيۡنَ  ۖ‏ ﴿37:77﴾ (37:76) We delivered him and his household from the great calamity; (37:77) and made his offspring the only ones to survive, There is the mention of a “great calamity” and it is very clearly mentioned that Nuh(AS)’s offspring were the only ones who survived. So it is indicated that everyone else was drowned and the flood was a global event. So Nuh(AS) is the 2nd father of mankind. Section IX: Surah Al-Qamar, Ayah 9-14. وَحَمَلۡنٰهُ عَلٰى ذَاتِ اَلۡوَاحٍ وَّدُسُرٍۙ‏ (54: 13) And We bore Noah on the vessel built of planks and nails, The unique detail that is not mentioned anywhere else is what the ship (Arc) was made up of. It was made up of wooden planks and nails. Here, it doesn’t say “ship” but we know that it was a ship since the other Surahs mentioned it. Section X: Surah Nuh, Ayah 1-28. There are only 2 Surahs in the whole Qur’an which are completely dedicated to the story of Prophets. Both of these mention the story of the Prophet from the beginning to end. The longer one is Surah Yusuf. The other shorter one is Surah Nuh. Only 2 Prophets of Allah have this honor - Yusuf(AS) and Nuh(AS). This Surah gives more details on the Da’wah of Nuh(AS). We get a glimpse of the conversations between him(AS) and his(AS) people. Nuh(AS) calls the people to Allah and reminds them of the numerous blessings Allah has showered on them. We see Nuh(AS) invoking Allah’s help and his(AS) description of how the people rejected is very graphic. Finally, he(AS) asked Allah to punish them and to be hard on them. وَمَكَرُوۡا مَكۡرًا كُبَّارًا ۚ‏ (71:22) They contrived a plot of great magnitude. There is an indication that they were plotting to kill him(AS) in Ayah and in other places in the Qur’an. وَ قَالُوۡا لَا تَذَرُنَّ اٰلِهَتَكُمۡ وَلَا تَذَرُنَّ وَدًّا وَّلَا سُوَاعًا  ۙ وَّ لَا يَغُوۡثَ وَيَعُوۡقَ وَنَسۡرًا ۚ‏ (71:23) They said: “Do not abandon your deities; do not abandon Wadd, nor Suwa, nor Yaghuth, nor Yauq, nor Nasr. This is the only place in the Qur’an where the idols of the people at the time of Nuh(AS) is mentioned. وَ قَالَ نُوۡحٌ رَّبِّ لَا تَذَرۡ عَلَى الۡاَرۡضِ مِنَ الۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ دَيَّارًا‏ (71:26) Noah said: “My Lord, do not leave out of these unbelievers even a single dweller on earth, Once again, there is very clear indication that the flood was to kill every single person on Earth and only ones who survived were those who were in the ship. This ends the Part-3 summary. Part-1, Part-2, and Part-4 are in a different comment. Anyone who thinks I have missed some point is welcome to reply but please give the time in the lecture when Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi talked about it so that I can be sure. JazakaAllah Khair

Summary(Important Notes) of The Stories of The Prophets- 33. The Story of Nuh - Part 1 Part-4 Personal note: السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته This is Part-4 of the summary. Part 1, Part 2, and Part-3 are commented in a different comment as the summary is too long to be commented on in one comment. The other comments are also in this comment box. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. The personal note ends... Information about Nuh(AS) from the Sunnah - Very little is added about Nuh(AS) from the Hadith. We gain some theological points. Hadith 1: Tesitfying for Nuh(AS) on the Day of Judgement. On the Day of Judgement, the people of Nuh(AS) will say to Allah “We didn’t get a Messenger.” Nuh(AS) will say, “I was sent to you.” So Allah will say to Nuh(AS), “Who will be your witness?” Nuh(AS) will say, “Muhammad(SAW) and his(SAW) nation will testify that I preached my people.” Allah will ask to us, “How do you know?” We will say, “We believed in the Qur’an and in our Messenger(SAW). And our Messenger(SAW) told us that Nuh(AS) was sent to his people. So we will testify because we believe.” (Sahih Bukhari and Muslim) Hadith 2: The Farewell Address of the Prophet(SAW). The Prophet(SAW) said, “O my people, every Prophet warned against Dajjal from Nuh(AS) onwards. I am going to tell you something nobody told the previous generations and that is that he will only have one eye.” (Sahih Bukhari and Muslim) Hadith 3: The weak Hadith in Ibn Hibban, narrated by Abu Dharr Al-Ghifari. The Prophet(SAW) said, “The first رسول (Messenger) is Nuh(AS).” The Hadith is weak but this concept is sound and it is pretty much understood in the Qur’an and Sunnah. Hadith 4: Nuh(AS)’s advice on the deathbed. Narrated from Abdullah ibn Amr ibn Aas, the Prophet(SAW) said - When the Prophet of Allah Nuh(AS) was about to die, he(AS) said to his(AS) son, “I shall give you my last will and testament. I am commanding you two things and I am forbidding you two things. I am commanding you with لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا ٱلله. For verily if the 7 Heavens and the 7 Earths were to be placed in one scale and لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا ٱلله is placed on the other side, لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا ٱلله will be heavier than the 7 Heavens and the 7 Earths. And I command you to pray. And I forbid you from Shirk and I forbid you from Arrogance.” (Musnad Imam ibn Hanbal and others, graded حسن - Authentic) Ibn Abbas is authentically reported to have said that the Prophet Nuh(AS) lived 10 generations after Adam(AS) and all those generations were on تَوْحيد (Oneness of Allah) and then Nuh(AS) came. Opinions of the Sahaba (about stories in particular) are viewed with high respect but it is not at the same level as the Qur’an and Sunnah, therefore it may be narrated but it should be known that it is not definitive. Ibn Abbas could have got it from the Prophet(SAW) and it is equally probable that he got it from Ka’b Al-Ahbar (a former Rabbi). It is also interesting to note that Genesis and Deuteromony also uphold the notion of 10 generations. With that mind, there could be 10 generations between Adam(AS) and Nuh(AS) but we do not know for sure. This ends the entire summary. Anyone who thinks I have missed some point is welcome to reply but please give the time in the lecture when Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi talked about it so that I can be sure. JazakaAllah Khair

Summary(Important Notes) of The Stories of The Prophets- 33. The Story of Nuh - Part 1 Part-1 Personal note: السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته This is Part-1 of the summary. Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4 are commented in a different comment as the summary is too long to be commented on in one comment. The other comments are also in this comment box. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. The personal note ends... The name of the Prophet Nuh(AS) occurs in the Qur’an 43 times. 21 of them are in longer sections that say his(AS)’s story. In the other 22 times, Nuh(AS) is only mentioned in passing along with a list of Prophets. There is no reference to the story of Nuh(AS) in the Madani Surahs, all of the 21 times are in Makkan stories. There is dual purpose in telling the story of Nuh(AS) - 1. To teach us history. 2. To act as a parable to the Prophet(SAW)’s life. The details are set up in such a way that there are clear parables to the Quraysh and the Prophet(SAW). This is a warning to the Quraysh and a consolation to the Prophet(SAW). Story of Nuh(AS) from the Qur’an - Section I: Surah Al-A’raf, Ayah 59-64: The first time his(AS) story was mentioned in somewhat detail is in Surah Al-A’raf, Ayah 59-64. In this section, it is mentioned that Nuh(AS) was sent to his people and he(AS) was sent to call the people to Allah. People accused him(AS) to be misguided and he(AS) defended himself(AS) and presented his(AS)’s message forcefully as a response. Then those people were destroyed because of their rejection and Allah saved him(AS) and his(AS)’s followers. And recite to them the news of Noah, when he said to his people, “O my people, if my residence and my reminding of the signs of Allah has become burdensome upon you - then I have relied upon Allah. So resolve upon your plan and [call upon] your associates. Then let not your plan be obscure to you. Then carry it out upon me and do not give me respite. (Surah Yunus, Ayah 71) Nuh(AS) basically says “Do what you will. I have Allah on my side.” In the next Ayah, Nuh(AS) is expressing his(AS)’s sincerity. Sincerity is a common motif found in Nuh(AS)’s story, one of the key phrase of him(AS) is “فَمَا سَأَلۡتُكُم مِّنۡ أَجۡرٍۖ إِنۡ أَجۡرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَى ٱللَّهِۖ” (Then no payment have I asked of you. My reward is only from Allah). From all of this, there is an indication that the people of Nuh(AS) were very materialistic and greedy. They constantly thought he(AS) had an ulterior monetary agenda. This is what Nuh(AS) is constantly denying. And they denied him, so We saved him and those with him in the ship and made them successors, and We drowned those who denied Our signs. Then see how was the end of those who were warned. (Surah Yunus, Ayah 73) Here we see three things: 1. Nuh(AS) made a ship, the term “ٱلۡفُلۡكِ” (ship) can mean any kind of ship. And an Arc (Biblical Term) is a large ship. 2. It is indicated that the whole humanity at that time was destroyed since the people on the ship called “successors.” 3. The way Allah destroyed the people who did not believe was by a flood and they all were drowned. This ends Part-1 of the summary. Part-2, Part-3, and Part-4 are in a different comment. Anyone who thinks I have missed some point is welcome to reply but please give the time in the lecture when Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi talked about it so that I can be sure. JazakaAllah Khair

JazakaAllah Khair I wonder why we assume the Great Flood of Nuh (AS) drowned all of humanity and was effectively a second genesis (24:17). The duaa of Nuh was against all disbelievers, which may be contextualized for disbelievers within his people. Even if we use the broader meaning, we have no evidence if there were any other believing communities apart from the geographical area, and those wouldn't have been affected by the flood. It is clear that the bible's version of the story states that the flood encompassed the whole Earth, but I'm trying to understand if our authentic Islamic sources agree explicitly. Though this may sound insignificant, we have to understand that incorporating a global understanding in the Islamic narrative may introduce challenges we don't really need to worry about since some atheists claim if such a flood happened then there must be certain geological thumbprints that are not found. I'm not sure about that claim, but my point is that we shouldn't go all-in on a global flood if the only sources we have are from the bible, culture folklore, or weak hadiths.
@MoosaRawat
@MoosaRawat Жыл бұрын
Look up a guy called Randall Carlson. He is a geomythologist that has done a lot of research on ancient floods. According to him, there is a lot of geological evidence of a global flood. His theory is that the Earth was in an ice age period and a large meteor impact (extinction level) on the ice caps in the northern hemisphere may have caused the rapid melting of ice which led to the great flood. And Allah knows best.

What is the point of nuh as warning about dajjak when even thousands of years later he has not yet appeared 🤔

What’s the point of the Sahaba learning about dajjal if Allah knew they would die before it? Because it’s valuable information.

It's a warning that needs to passed down generations. Prophet has said so many signs that are going to take place before his coming. One of them is drying of river Euphrates and appearing of mountain of Gold.

Apologies if I sound judgemental. The way you started about the companions of the prophet about their use the israeliyyat, seem to be very generalized and seems to discredit their capacity in delivering the message of Islam the next generation. Your service to Islam will be ever so inferior to the service of the prophets companions. Because despite their falliablility, Allah has revealed in His glorious Quran, about the Prophets companions (long before many of them passed away) that Allah Himself is satisfied about the companions and the companions are satisfied about Allah. Hence, I respectfully ask you, if you have talked about this part extensively in detail (which I believe it is your academic duty to the religion as well as the Muslims) please provide the link to such lecture or video. You cannot just move past it like it is so inconsequential (that is what it seems you have done here). The way you portrayed the message seems to be boastful of your knowledge over their knowledge, and no matter however much knowledgeable you may so become, you could never ever be more knowledgeable in Islam, than the companions themselves (although they are falliable), they sure must have had far more and better reasons to have used israeliyyath than you may so claim to have understood it. please understand that I do respect you for the knowledge that you have and the work you do. However my concern is that the way you brought forth what you said about the companion having used israeliyyath, seemed disrespectful in my understanding of your speech. I am not scholar but I believe to the best of my ability I am no fool to not recognize between respect and disrespect.
