As the first Prime Minister of Congo, Patrice Lumumba the former colonial power, Belgium, and demanded a distribution of wealth for the Congolese people. He quickly became a symbol of hope for the locals with his black nationalist views. However, his time in office was cut short due to a fatal mistake.
Lumumba's journey began as a poor farmer's son in a small village, where he grew up under difficult conditions caused by the colonial occupation and the trauma of the Congo atrocities. His parents wanted a better fate for their son, to not work as a slave and sent him to become a religious teacher, as this profession could save him from torture and meant social climbing. However, he was rebellious and started to question the methods of the colonial apparatus.
He managed to climbe the social ladder, but soon realized the cruel injustice of the Belgian Congo where whites had all the privileges and the Black people where trated like animals. He wrote critical articles and joined the resistance against colonial oppression. He quickly became the central figure of the Congolese independence movement by demanding a free, undivided Congo, but his time in office was cut short due to Western powers who did not wanted to loose the resources they exploited in the Congo. After just a few month in office they decided to assassinate him. His legacy lives today on as a symbol of hope and the decolonization of Africa.

I was 11 years old when Lumumba was assassinated. I was a child living in the UK and not really interested in politics. Certainly not politics from another country. The situation in the Congo was on TV every night for some months. After a while I picked up the story. It was hard to avoid it. It was absolutely clear that the broadcasters were against Lumumba. It was equally clear they couldn't say what he had done wrong. I remember watching him on the 6 o clock news being dragged along chained to a car, to be killed. Still to this day the most disgusting thing I have seen on TV. I have not watched this video. I cannot rewatch this vile act.

I'm so sorry to hear that! They tried to take his dignity from him by showing him in shackles to the world. The reports about Congo and Lumumba were highly biased in the West. They really tried hard to make him look bad and to provoke hate towards him. Still today I think that the way the media reports about Africa is prejudiced. Thank you for your comment 🧡

Something is seriously wrong with these people. If people like Lumumba hadn’t allowed their voice to be heard, our world wouldn’t have evolved higher, and be as free as it is now against the enemies of humanity. His voice, message, and consciousness still reverberates in our spirit through many people who were inspired by his bravery to fight for freedom without fear. Lumumba exercised his innate calling that was part of his mission. It is important to be wise, confident, and to make our voice heard no matter what, even with the threat of death if our innate mission is asking us to do so. Contrary to what religions would say, nobody really dies! Our body expires, and the creator puts us back in a new incarnation and a new simulation game. The West & Mobutu had every right to commit their evil deeds, but they abused their power. Unintelligent people abuse their god-given power. If Mobutu hadn’t done what he did, he would have been killed. These people are forced to comply. These demonic deeds they’ve committed will come back to haunt & destroy them life-time after life-time. As you know, repercussion or karma is one of the laws of our Universe. We can see the West crumbling right now in front of our eyes; and Africa is gradually rising. The elites, leaders, and criminals of the West are currently fighting each other and becoming divided more & more each day. Divide & conquer is the strategy and tool they’ve always used to keep Africa down to enable their exploits. But our Universe will serve it back to them. What you sow is what you reap! Trauma passes from generation to generation. We as Africans need healing because of the deep trauma we’ve endured; unresolved trauma blocks foresight and progress. Thank you History Fox for your great work.

Such a beautiful comprehensive piece of history you put together here. You did an amazing job!. There’s a similarity of fate between Patrice Lumumba and Thomas Sankara of the old Upper Volta(Burkina Fasso). A friend in the person of Mobutu who betrayed Lumumba, and a friend in the person of Blaise Compaore who betrayed Thomas Sankara and orchestrated his assassination. The complot and betrayal within the rank and file of Congolese government that led to Lumumba’s assassination is heartbreaking. In Sankara’s voice, « Fatherland or death, one day we shall conquer ».

Great video on an important story. Black slavery never ended… the West just moved its location. The world has continuously enjoyed the extremely rich land owned by Congo. Throughout its modern history, it has provided a highly coveted and important resource relevant to each time period in high volumes. From Rubber, to Uranium in WW2, to Oil, to Cobalt and Coltan today. For the control of these resources, we dealt with the genocide of 13 million Congolese in the late 19th Century, an imposed war in the mid 20th Century, and another genocide of 6 million Congolese in the Congo Wars of the 90s and 2000s. This was a past, present, and future that Lumumba tried to change, and he was brutally murdered as a result. He isn’t the last leader we’ve had where this happened. What’s happened in Congo through our history is the ugliest aspects of white supremacy, forcing a nation of 100 million Sub Saharan Africans to live in a constant state of misery so that the White Elite of the West can profit. These stories are extremely important. Thank you.

Genocide is not a superlative of atrocity or massacre, but a specific crime. Also those are only riches for the people who know what to do with it. Without the colonization, gold and diamons would have been the only riches. Rubber, uranium, oil, cobalt and coltan are only valuable because of the West. The West brings value to stuff that had no value before. I'm not asking for gratitude, but a bit less simplism and recognition of the opportunity.

I appreciate your video. I thank you and others like you for making this information easily accessible. It saddens me that these issues persist and it is just a normal day for everyone. Why is it so? What foolish things distract us from these atrocities? And how is it that taxpayers' dollars are supporting the organizations that commit these uncivilized inhumane acts of violence, brutality, and oppression?

Thank you so much! And thank you for your words, sometimes we should reflect about our situation and that there are still so many things that are injust in this world, we are no conspiracy theorists for pointing that out.

Thank you! Yes, this assassination happened in 1961 (not long ago) and everyone can read everything about what the West did to Lumumba and is still doing to Congo and yet, there is no interest in the West for that. It feels like as long as we don't see it we don't need to think about it. So people tend to ignore it, that's just horrible.

@@historyfox Sad reality...a little less because souls as yourself cast a light. Libya's Gaddaffi didn't heed this lesson. The West a friend to no one - if you can spare it do a piece on that country's slave trade. The worst of Obama's many crimes. Who'd think he himself traces African roots? Ben Swann did so at my request years ago if it helps.

The YT Americans and YT Europeans hated him so much that they cut his body into 34 pieces and dissolved it in acid. One of the YT butchers took a tooth from the body beforehand as a momento. This tooth was discovered recently when the YT executioner confessed on his deathbed. The Lumumba family demanded it's return. It was returned to them and was buried last year, 2022.

The Congo is the heart of Africa and the richest part of the continent. The West has always sought to keep its grips on the Congo. This is why Congo still suffers. After getting rid of Lumumba, they have managed to run this Jewel of Africa with puppets upon puppets. When the West realized Mobutu was ailing and had become a liability, the propped up Kagame on Congo's border to rein in the Congo. Kabila was killed for not wanting to play ball, but his son did play ball giving Kagame free rein.
