I like how, in a way, it was Susan that gave the Doctor his love for Earth and humans. Almost like he cares about humanity in honor of her.

@HN Yes. First of all, she calls The Doctor 'Grandfather', and in the first episode, 'An Unearthly Child' The Doctor says, 'We are not of this race, we are not of this earth. We are wanderers in the 4th Dimension of time, cut off from our own planet and our own people by "eions?" and universes, far beyond the reach of your own "scientists?". The words like "this" are words I'm not 100% sure are right.

@@smartpug967 Believe it or not but there is a difference between Time lord and Galifrayan. A Galifrayan is a humanoid species close to human with 2 hearts and other gifts. A timelord is a Galifrayan who has looked into the untempered schism and gained the ability to regenerate. As far as we know, Susan is a Galifrayan, not a Time lord.

@@JEEEVANJOHN Because Capaldi's Doctor is kind of the last "Old Man" Doctor that we've had in a while, who reminds us more of the 1st Doctor in some ways. It just seems more fitting than her grandfather becoming her grandmother (I don't know what to call him at this point) who is way younger looking than her.

If you listen closely you can hear 'Fear' by Murray Gold, it played when Clara met the Doctor as a child and told him "Fear makes companions of us all", which, funnily enough, is what the First Doctor said in An Unearthly Child.

Would be nice if the people making the show realized that Susan hasn't been explicitly declared dead yet and the actress that played her wants to return to the show (also that out of the thirteen years the show's been back only ONE classic series companion made a full-on return...twelve years ago)...just saying there's an interesting opportunity there that should've been grasped by now.

Indeed she has, I've very much appreciated Big Finish's efforts with Susan, not only all the stories set during her time in the Tardis but also moving her story forward after she left, capitalizing on her relationship with the Doctor a lot more than the show ever did if you ask me.

The powers-that-be don't want classic companions coming back because they believe the current audience won't know them and won't connect with them. They even went as far as dropping an off-hand inconsequential reference to Harry Sullivan from the final cut of "Knock Knock".

I don't doubt that's at least partially true of the people in charge in more recent years, but the fact that Sarah Jane came back in 2006, reappeared more than once AND got her own successful spinoff that ran for several years (and would've gone on for longer had Elizabeth Sladen not passed away in 2011) AND brought in other classic series characters proves that mindset is so damn stupid and inconsiderate towards the long-term fans that love the long, rich history of the show.

They forgot to mention how she would react to almost anything by retracting her neck and throwing her arms forward while yelling "GRANDFATHER NO" (I'm currently watching through the classic series, I am on the sensorites right now, and her way of freaking out is the most entertaining part of the show just because of how over the top it is.)

I have long wanted to see a prequel of sorts. Younger version of Hartnell's Doctor before leaving Gallifrey. Academy days... friends with the Master before he went totally of the rocker. Maybe with a Smallville Clark/Lex vibe.

Well 10 mentioned a couple of times that his child(ren) died, presumably in the Time War, and now that Chibnall has blown up Gallifrey again that pretty much gets rid of any chance of the Doctor's kid(s) showing up.

Tom Bryant Lord, this reminds me of when he went to the DW experience, it was filmed, and he played the 12th Doctor, and he was completely in character answer questions and one of them was about Susan and he actually teared up a bit. Honestly, Capaldi would’ve been perfect to bring her back.

So far at least Chibnall seems more interested in making up new stuff than revisiting stuff from classic episodes. Moffat had a cool way of doing both but I don't see Chibnall doing it any time soon.

Its amazing how easy it would be to reintroduce her into the series, have the actress come for a few episodes, maybe even entire season, then have Susan regenerate and we could have her back as permament companion that could come back into the series every few seasons. But before that, we need Ian to get at least a cameo at some point! Better sooner than later, they're not exactly young :(

Oh snap, would you look at the time! It's Susan o'clock! Like seriously. If Susan is in Resolution, this is a *fantastic* way to brief newer fans on her background under the guise of a simple KZfaq video promoting The Women Who Lived book. Series 11 brought up the Timeless Child and had motif of grandparents and grandchildren, so Susan might actually return! The official Doctor Who KZfaq channel posted the "Do I have a right scene?" from Genesis of the Daleks in March 2015, a few months before the Davros two parter of series 9. I had never seen that scene before and it really helped me appreciate that story.

@@MizuNoDoukeshi Why does that matter? Carole Ann Ford is still alive. I'm not saying she's going to become a full-time companion, but she could easily have a scene at the end of the New Year's special. The episode is titled *Resolution* after all!

@@MizuNoDoukeshi Has it ever been established that _only_ Gallifreians that have also graduated from the Academy can regenerate? I always felt that it was mostly a natural biologic process from living in proximity to the time vortex, similar to their understanding of time. Part of Academy training hones those natural skills. And even if normally only graduates can regenerate, I kind of feel that being the granddaughter of Gallifray's most famous son (daughter?), one who is also a Lord President to boot, she might be given a pass on needing to officially graduate in order to be considered a full Time Lord; sort of an honorary doctorate kind of thing.

I love that. She's a character that should definitely be brought back. As a Time Woman, a Gallifreyan, wouldn't she have the ability to regenerate? Perhaps her husband has died and she's feeling restless again and regenerates. Maybe she'll even run into Jenny sometimes. Who knows.

I do wonder how Susan would react to the current Doctor-her grandfather hasn't seen her in thousands of years, and has been through more regenerations since than she likely will ever have. He's saved and taken billions of lives, he's traveled with dozens of other companions, he fought in (and ultimately ended) the Time War, and he never even thought to write.

This will sound a bit strange to mention but nobody has brought it up: if Susan is also a Timelord like Romana, can't she reappear in a new regeneration too? Her original actress could even return to regenerate into the New Series! Golden opportunity!

@BowTiesAreCool Don't wanna go to in-depth about what cannon or not because that's one hell of a rabbit hole to go down and really it's down to personal preferences but I will say in Night of The Doctor he does mention the characters he met in the 8th Doctor audio series by name so that makes at least the 8th Doctor audio series canon to the show.

@@bowlerhatfilmsandreviews2778 And actually, as Nick Briggs (voice of the Daleks, Cybermen, etc. and exec producer of Big Finish) once said, according to the BBC, the audios have always been canon. At least, according to the people who used to be in the BBC. Maybe now it's run by more hardliner fanboys who think anything that isn't on TV is non-canon, who knows.

@@JnEricsonx If I remember correctly though she was left in a war zone where David was part of a resistance. I'm having trouble loading the wiki to confirm and as I was born in the mid-1970s and American I haven't seen a whole lot of the 1st Doctor episodes. When it comes to classic Doctors I'm more familiar with 3 and 4 with a smattering of 5, 6, and 7 before PBS decided to replace Doctor Who with Barney the evil purple dinosaur.

The doctor left her saying: "I will come back. Yes I will come back." But he has yet to do so. Yes there was that one time she met him again, but that was when the doctor's own timelines was pulled to cross one another. But this was just because she came along the first doctor who was pulled away from his own timestream from a point where she was still traveling with him. She has yet to meet him after he left her.

Susan is a Gallifreyan, there's every possibility that she's in her 70s during her time on screen.

And then her husband died, she met the 8th doctor (in an earthly child), her son died (in to the death) and then she went and frought in thentime war and is now probably dead (either by the time war or the master destroying galifrey, maybe she is a cyberman). Still hoping that she, romana and leela were off galifrey at that point in time (maybe exploring the post time war universe to see if it is safe to return) so that we can see them again, hopefully the 60th anniversary will focus a bit on pre 2005 doctor who.

It was always sad to me that Susan and the doctor and never reunited. It would be a good story; maybe Susan would be angry, maybe she would just be happy to see him again. Who knows.

Wasn't an Unearthly Child though their first adventure? I was lead under the impression that this was really the first time the Doctor started interfering in events to such an extent based on his reactions to Ian and Barbara. That was one of the things I really liked about an Unearthly Child, it was the beginning of Doctor Who, no start in the Middle stuff.

No, there were pre-Ian and Barbara adventures referenced in the TV Series and depicted in the EU. But I believe he's a lot less moral in those. I listened to the Beginning (basically it depicts how the Doctor and Susan left Gallifrey as well as the first adventure they went on) and in it, the Doctor leaves someone to die.

Almost thought they were going to bring her back in Series 10. Or Day of the Doctor. Another opportunity would have been as 'The Woman' in The End of Time, which would have given the end scene so much more emotional resonance.

When the doctor stole the TARDIS, the navigation system was broken. They could take off and land. But they had no contoll over where they would end up. It took many years before the doctor found a second tardis that Barbara and Ian could use to return home after they where abducted by him.

it's very odd how they've avoided the doctor's family, he was a grandfather so who were Susan's parents? Why did he leave his children? What did his family think about his leaving with his granddaughter in tow? Did they try to find him? There's an entire wealth of possible storylines there and we never see anything about it, I know it's doctor who? (as in he/she is a mystery) But surely this has be looked at someday.

@@danivarius is this TV cannon? Big Finish or novelization? If so, can you tell me where to find that? I'd be interested in seeing that story. She was the Doctor's granddaughter so I would think heir to the lineage, I would think.
