The Story of the Club-Footed Grocer first appeared in The Strand Magazine in 1898, and was the sixth story in Round the Fire, a collection of short stories by Arthur Conan Doyle. This is a great tale of adventure and skulduggery, set in London and somewhere on the wild moors in the North of England, perhaps not too far from Morecambe Bay. An estranged uncle summons his nephew to his aid by letter and telegram. The tale is reminiscent of Robert Louis Stevenson's adventures with the tension building towards a sickening climax.
Listen as I run through the full gamut of my character voices from A to B!
It is read by Greg Wagland.

Another great ACD story that you've recorded for the world to hear, with some of the best English accents to boot. I've Gotta say it again Greg Wagland, you are arguably the best Narrator of ACD novels period. Cheers Wagz, from Melbourne Australia...🇦🇺

Hello Greg, another wonderful narration. I've always been very fond of this story, perhaps as I grew up not far from Congleton (although the geography in the story is a bit mysterious, I assumed it was the Peak District but that's nowhere near Morecambe Bay, unless ACD is giving that title to the whole coastline from Barrow to Liverpool... but I digress). I recorded a version of this a while back, as you say it's great fun with so many different voice and accents! I enjoyed your rendition very much indeed, good to hear you in fine voice. I hope you're keeping well, best wishes

Sir ACD was educated near Clitheroe, so it's perhaps unsurprising that he's familiar with the Morecambe Bay area.

Mr Maple's grocery was never as successful as he hoped. Then he hit on the idea of naming a customer loyalty card after his trademark injured foot. The Clubcard took off and the business never looked back. A little-known fact - to this day, if you limp up to a Tesco check-out and say to the operator "I am Stephen Maple" you'll get a special discount.

Great to listen to in early hours when I can't get back to sleep! 4am. All very quiet; opened bedroom curtains to peek out. Covered in snow, with huge snowflakes falling so softly! That accounted for the ' hush' that occurs with snowfalls. Time for a hot chocolate!! Cuddled back in bed listening to your wonderful narration of this Sherlock story. I was so content and cosy, fell asleep before the end. Just woke up again, so will do that now. Many of my friends listen to you too Wouldn't be the same without your ' soothing ' narrative! I'm a Scot/ Yorkshire lass, living between Stirling and Edinburgh Great to hear Northern English dialect! Thank you

It's a very anticlimactic ending. I wished the nephew to realize some gain from the loot however I guess this is the way of the world. Sounds like in this era sailors have long memories and little to no cares to their consequences on land as sea.
