@emilysmith2965
@emilysmith2965 Жыл бұрын
Yeah no… basically calling people delusional and being arrogant enough to say you know their gender better than they do IS HATEFUL. Literally, even if you have to be annoyed with trans people existing, or think it’s an illness or whatever garbage, doctors have figured out that changing our bodies is relatively easy - changing the gender inside our BRAIN?! That’s too hard for them. And so this is the medical treatment that we NEED to feel better - getting the body that more closely matches our brain. Maybe try asking your mom what she’d do if she woke up in a male version of her body tomorrow. Looking like a younger version of her dad or a slightly different version of her brother, perhaps. Would she rather figure out how to get her old body back, or try to struggle through life being treated as a man? She might understand better after that. But even if she doesn’t, I’m glad you recognize that she’s not correct about what her actions are communicating to others. You’re strong and you’re doing awesome. All the best in 2023!

My mom is bisexual and is the reason I have any love for myself; she is my safe space. My dad is straight and homophobic and is the reason I so easily see flaws in myself and is why I have panic attacks if someone yells at me. I had both parents in my life(although divorced). I didn’t know my mom was bisexual until I came out to her in high school so I thought I was raised by two straight people. By homophobic logic, I should have been a physically and mentally thriving cishet; instead, I’m underweight, anxious, depressed, demisexual, biromantic, agender, and convinced I would have thrived better with just my mom.

Interesting thing about the whole “God told me to submit to my husband” argument. The pastor at my church actually talked about this, and said that the reason it’s hard for women to get respect from men is part of the punishment Adam and Eve caused because they ate the forbidden fruit. So basically, the struggles women have is a curse, not a gift. Take that straights >:D Edit: I HAVE ANOTHER ONE Okay so, the Bible is translated from a language that isn’t English of course, so mess ups happen. This is why there is a verse that is messed up. I don’t know the exact verse, but it’s in there basically saying that MEN should shouldn’t “relationship” with BOYS. But, when translated, it was accidentally made to be MAN and MAN. So basically the Bible said originally that adults shouldn’t have relationships with kids, but translation made it seem like it said you can’t have a same-sex relationship. HA. TAKE THAT AGAIN WEIRD STRAIGHTS >:D

10:06 - The "joke" is that women make fun of men for over-exaggerating how bad they feel when they get sick. My guesses as to how this formed are either: Fragile guys who got sick couldn't stand feeling even a moment of weakness and vulnerability and so played up how bad they felt to make it seem like it took some kind of insane super-virus to bring them down, or fragile guys couldn't stand the idea of trying to comprehend anyone else's pain and basically say "Sure, it sucks for you, but I'VE got a COLD! It's way worse (because it's happening to meeeee)!" Source: Am 40, have seen sooo much boomer humor growing up.

I love how it's often said "but in the Bible it's written that women have to follow men" Firstly: please read the Bible more carefully and think about what you read Secondly: it's also written that men should love their wife as Christ loved people. You know the guy who literally washed a poor woman's feet and generally served others. The guy who died for people and didn't commit violence. The guy who saved an adulteress and healed another bleeding woman. That guy who definitely respected women and their problems and tried to help them...

Worth noting that the new testament stuff about women following men was written as specific advice for specific groups of early Christians from St. Paul, and was almost certainly not intended as universal instruction for all groups of people. What got included in the bible was decided roughly 300 years after the death of Christ, so...
@bearo8
@bearo8 Жыл бұрын
@@Parker8752 that to. It is also interesting to note that what is written is really different from what was normal then. In the society of the time women were basically non existent in public live. They stayed in their homes and definitely didn't offer their opinions in public. They belonged to their husbands/father's/head of house. The New Testament speaks about women getting an education (at home but still) of them being in public and speaking there. In one of the letters (I forgot which possibly Thimoteus) it is rather obvious that christian women had more rights than the average woman of the time. This was of course problematic because Christians were already considered weird/possibly dangerous. As spreading the gospel was of the highest priority this perception had to change and therefore in this letter it is written that women should basically follow the rules of the time so that Christians aren't perceived as bad/evil/immoral. There are just tons of passages in the Bible that support equal rights for all genders. Starting with the creation of men

About the "men have no feelings" part: In older generations, men were trained to not show emotions, and became emotional cold as a response to that. My grandfathers for example have both difficulty to express their feelings in a way others can understand it. They rather do it by teasing others, or just don't. One of my grandfathers has (according to my dad) had the ability to express more freely than today, untill his wife died, which he (I think) didn't really recover from to this day (he doesn't visit her grave often, for example). But back to the original subject. Men were trained to not show emotions in "the good old days." As far as I know and have experienced, people that are trained to not show emotions are complicated to deal with. It's also not healthy to suppress emotions. I think it's good that men should be free to decide if they want to show emotions or not, but they should be free to do so. I and many others know how harmful and stupid "rules" of society can be, and that social norms aren't necessarily good. Anyone should be free to express themselves in a way they want, without forcing others to do it in their way too.
@sylverscale
@sylverscale Жыл бұрын
The only way my grandpa was able to express love was by buying people things or giving them money. Or in very rare cases by making you a compliment. And he was really a loving man who was generous and kind. But I've never seen him cry, or heard him say "I love you". It's sad, and it still happens way too often. Repressed emotions aren't good for anyone, yet so many men are still taught to do it.

Unfortunately, I was raised with the "Boys don't cry" saying. Although I wasn't really affected by this because I didn't know I was a trans man at the time. But my brothers were greatly affected by this enforced toxic masculinity, which they got from my father. (Who was also raised to suppress his emotions.) When my siblings and I were about 6-11, my dad would often pressure my brothers into doing something they didn't want to do or were scared of. Luckily, my brothers have grown out of this forced mindset. My father on the other hand, hasn't changed much.

This is why photos and videos you take of yourself or other people never seem to look good unless you apply a little bit of makeup. If people didn't wear makeup while filming a movie, for example, they would seem incredibly washed out and you wouldn't even be able to tell that the thing your seeing on screen is a face. This just further proves that The Straights™ never do the bare minimum of research before they speak; it's literally one google search away.

i find the mindset of retalliation/punishment in relationships WILD, like. your partner does something you don't like, and instead of assuming they didn't realize they were being hurtful and talking to them about it, you assume they already know what they're doing wrong but just don't care, so you do something mean to them INTENTIONALLY and imagine that somehow they'll know this was punishment for a specific (set of) thing(s) they did. like. there's so much wrong with that, but honestly the worst part is just why would you be in a relationship with someone who you thought was knowingly hurting you? i mean, i guess if you're willing to hurt your partner on purpose, that'd be why: projection. just... just learn how to talk to people, seriously,,

Dumbing down science lessons because one assumes kids are incapable of grasping certain concepts tends to become a self-fulfilling prophecy. If kids are taught to think in terms of strict binaries, that isn't just a faulty foundation, that's flat out misinformation. It's going to be very hard to crowbar that out when they're introduced to more complex concepts. The fact is that almost nothing in nature operates in terms of a strict binary, and the categories used in fields like biology tend to have a lot of overlap. Consider the debate over what counts as a transitional species. Technically _everything_ is a transitional species.

3:22 ironically can be framed as “liberals get the clitoris and conservatives do not”. In terms of both sex and generally being slightly freer to be comfortable as trans or as a woman as they are. The clitoris is literally a part of a woman’s anatomy, and an oft-referenced one in vulgar humor, so people should be more likely to know about the clitoris. Particularly as an erogenous zone.

Maybe they mean sexual liberals and sexual conservatives, rather than a comment about their political stance? Although there might be a correlation. I mean, it is considered “liberal” to advocate for sexual education in schools, and “conservative” to push for abstinence of all such information and activities, despite the facts that, in areas where the more “conservative” choice has been enacted, there has been a measurable rise in teen and out of wedlock pregnancies … but I digress.

The cartoon at 4:45 is really really good!! It’s a wholesome show about kids being kids, just exploring the great outdoors and using their imaginations. It has phenomenal representation and features a lot of openly LGBTQ+ characters. It can dive into some deep topics when it needs to, and later gets a bigger storyline. Overall, I think you would like it, it’s definitely worth checking out :D

Keep in mind, a "fanny pack" outside of the US may mean something else. "Wearing makeup is 'unmasculine'"...tell that to the (American) founding fathers. Most makeup, heels, corsets, and coiffed hair were popularized by Medieval men, and later adopted by European men during the Renaissance. The reason this fashion stopped is because it was adapted by women. Funnily enough, a fedora started as women's fashion during the 1940's, but was later made into men's hats, and is thought to be strictly for men.

Fedoras are thought of *strictly* for men? I've always wanted to wear one, but i thought it was one of those things that even the cissest, most hetero of karens wouldn't care which gender it was on? I JUST WANNA WEAR A FEDORA :( well i could wear one for historical cosplay ngl

@@Simply_StarlightSun as makeup, heels, and long/coiffed hair are thought of as "women's fashion" (started by men), fedoras were indeed made for women, and later adopted by men. A person dressing in historical, period accurate costumes, is something that was not originally designed for them, would be interesting to see. Severla studies have shown that having fun bedtime with yourself on a regular basis actually boosts your confidence.. And it's a good thing to explore yourself, to learn what you like and don't like, what feels good and what doesn't. It makes having adult fun time with someone else much less stressful if you know in advance how your own body works.

"You wear makeup, wear feminine clothes and aren't too traditionally masculine? THEN YOU ARE NOT A MAN" "Aww, really?" "Not you, you are the most man of all time and will allways be. In fact you are more man than me" "Crap" The trick is to tell them you are a man. It will hurt to say it, but it'll be balanced by them treating you as a woman and fighting anyone who says the contrary.

"Keep your hand at her back of the waist. Shows your strong masculine presence." I remember sometimes my mom or grandmother would do that to move me out of the way (like if there is something infront of me that I didn't see or something). They mostly did this because I'm taller than them so that's literally the only way they can move me lol. But they don't do this anymore (they just grab my arm or something) because I specifically hate anyone touching me like that, it just feels extremely uncomfortable. My point is. If anyone were to "keep their hand at the back" of *my* waist. I'd probably shove them off and start throwing hands if they kept being insistent on touching me. How's that for strong masculine presence?
