as a big fan of Trigun Stampede, I'm excited for GG anime. The trailer already sold me on the animation, and I think that it'll hold its own from other 3d anime with its unique style and crazy lore. Plus its Sin and Sol, how could you not be excited? lastly to me, as a newer gg fan, I think Sol represents old GG, and Sin the newer GG. This anime will bridge that gap and many more than we anticipate, at least that's my opinion atm.

I trust Sanzigen with the animation, mostly because they've already done some short videos for Strive, including the anniversary one, where they have the attention to detail to replicate the art style of each Guilty Gear game as the video retold the story of the universe and games. As for Dual Rulers being a landmark in CGI anime, I think that ship has sailed a little bit. As you said, anime like Beastars have already been doing CGI animation with the aim to replicate 2D art styles, not to mention how JoJo's Bizarre Adventure has openings that are iconic for replicating Araki's art style in 3D while also managing to make really smooth animations with them

I thought it was rotoscoped (traced over 3d models) most scenes then only used just 3D for the action scenes.

Sanzigen was a great pick as the animation studio since Arcsys has worked with them before with the “Find your one way” MV and that was a banger, I can’t really speak for Sanzigen as much except that they have also done the 3 movie Initial D Legend series which I found they animated well with the racing scenes, and the newer Initial D arcade games essentially switched to their artstyle. So hopefully Dual Rulers are in good hands.

I feel like GG might have the most coherent fighting game story out there, mostly because it’s not really about the fighting. The tournament setup was almost immediately abandoned in favor of having an ensemble cast having to deal with some big bad’s machinations and crossing paths in the process. The most recent games have been resolving the “That Man” plotline that started with the first game, and have done well to move characters beyond their original motivations. I think that lends itself to more plots.

I think using the 3d models is a good choice. with the complexity of some designs (visually)- unless they're redesigned to be simpler, it would be hard to consistently 2d animate these, especially with action scenes. The trailer looks promising visually. With the animation of in-game story modes, i personally think the animation for the story itself, wasn't a priority, i think that arcsys saw that story mode, being something you can't really put on pause and rewind ect- was a thing many don't touch unless its recorded and reuploaded on youtube. and focused on other aspects of the game especially considering the development window (a chunk of it taking part during covid) The "imperfections" you mentioned, are likely smear frames, done to make motion more fluid and fit well into the 24FPS format most animation goes in. since you mostly likely don't pause randomly to see a smear frame unless looking for it. Other 3d anime do end up rough, but i personally there's one anime, that is important to mention, Dorohedoro, it's a mix of CGI and 2D, there isn't a lot of 100% 2d scenes, most are a mix, or CGI. Dorohedoro's artstyle is grounded so well it's not that big of a problem, i believe guilty gear, especially strive- also has an artstyle that is just as well grounded. anyways gekko "the artstyle of GUILTY GEAR!" video when? /lh

another anime that did 3D/CGI right are the anime adaptations of The World Ends with You. Despite what people may say about the pacing, I could not tell if there were 3d parts added to it or if it was purely 3d.

I have a feeling we’re gonna see Uniqua as a DLC in strive at some point. Especially since, as far as I can tell, we’re running out of more recognizable old characters to throw in to a point Arcs is gonna have to start making originals again at some point.

Whenever I think of 3D models in anime, I think of the old Kirby anime "Right back at ya". And those looked totally fine... As long as they didn't put 3d models next to 2D sprites. Luckily we've come a long way for 3d since the 2000s.

If strive isn't animated by a godlike studio like trigger or someone else A+ it won't do justice to it's godlike story.

3d CGI tends to be slower and clunkier than hand animation. The spiderman multiverse movies a really good counter example though. And in game animations of Strive of course. In game animations are the same 20-40 animations per character used repeatedly unlike a movie animation.

Just to let everyone know, 3d animation has already evolved to a level where its genuinely good. The anime community just doesn't like cgi mainly due to past cgi anime looking bad and most dont give modern 3d anime a chance.

I'm not an anime fan. Nearly every anime I've ever watched has been a bore fest for me. But, as someone who is self-taught in animation, I love the style of anime, and the GG series has totally blown my mind with the blend of 2D and 3D techniques. I personally cannot wait to watch the series, if only to try and learn from the techniques shown

mortal kombat has been doomed to fall for years, sf6 took all the things people went to mk for, sf6 has the realistic artstyle now but isn't animated by a robot who has no idea how people move and actually lets you learn the game instead of putting out new releases every 2 years, (mk still has the brutality, but I dont think that pulls in as many people as you might think, it makes me not want to play it) tekken is tekken, and guilty gear is the best looking dedicated anime game

Nah, it'll be as trash as the Blaz Blue anime, Persona anime, etc. Video game anime doesn't have a good track record. There's just gonna be a revival of that sort of thing. Lots and lots of garbage adaptations. It's happening with Live Action thanks to weirdos actually praising One Piece and having super low standards, it will happen with anime because of this too.
