While Julian sings about things personal to him, the lyrics are universally relatable, especially when you move to new places, or new jobs as an adult, or end a long relationship, and with it many friendships also become strained.

My sister is the same way. I've tried to play some Strokes songs for her and she just can't get into their music either. But she knows that they are my favorite band and she respects that. It's kinda funny because after she told me she didn't like their music, she said, "But I looked them up on the internet and they appear to be very popular."😂 I was like, "uh, yeah they certainly are." She just mainly refers to them as "that band you like." Lol!😂 But, yeah, she knows I'm a die hard Strokes fan and, at least, she respects that and doesn't give me any shit over it. So as long as it makes you happy to see your brother happy, than that's all that matters. We all have different tastes after all. And, I'd say you are being a great sister to allow him to have fun with a band that you yourself don't particularly like.🙂

@@jessicamitt7166Agree with you. The Grammy's have become a joke. This is actually The Strokes' very first nomination, which is insane. They didn't even get any nominations for Is This It, which was probably the most acclaimed album of 2001.

Yeah, I think this song is really personnal coming from Julian. Reading the lyrics, I think he's probably going through tough times, not just because the divorce, but maybe his "bad habits" have returned, he's having trouble trying to fit in with younger people (I would assume like his new gf and her friends) and maybe some unseen troubles inside the band itself. I also think the circles part is probably about his relation with Juliet or the fact that he thinks he's following his dad's footsteps. Anyways, it's all his private life, so whatever, only he knows, but I also can't help kinda worrying for him and wishing him the best. Also Juliet and the kids.

@@marshaa2374 Yeah, I only discovered recently too. But aparently, it has happened quiet a while back, mid to end 2019. He's currently dating a girl named Kaya, there are some pics of them on Instagram, but that's all we know. Also, he's kinda pissed on people saying they're disappointed with him, and I totally understand, poor guy has his own life.

A perfect song and the definition of a Strokes song. Familiar in feel but still new and interesting. It is excellent sound and music that fully expresses so much emotion at an indiscribable level. The lyrics equally capture all the depth and dynamic range and motion of emotion and music. The Strokes are music, they are absolutely a modern muse, being new and timeless at the same time.

You guys really think this isn’t rock? The Strokes are easily the most prominent indie rock band in the game. Sure they’ve been pretty new wave/synth pop since Angles but this is definitely still rock music. It’d be like saying Talking Heads weren’t rock because they started using synths
