You've essentially just turned Zhao Ming into a multi-stage boss fight for kairos' army

Hey Legend thanks for rating my iteration of Zhao Ming! I wanted to clarify why I chose the trickster's shard over any other option. I don't really care about the -100% miscast chance from casting it, but the innate -20% base miscast means I can always use overcasted spells and never do damage to myself. With that in mind, I also exclusively used Final Transmutation because the enemies create massive blobs on top of Zhao, which leads to MASSIVE damage when overcasted. At the end of my attempt in this fight I had about 270k damage done. I've done this against all demon army types, including 2 full stacks of with Skarbrand despite their high magic resist. In all my tests, Final Transmutation absolutely destroyed units better than any other spell he has. I'm not sure how I can get that Dagger but the only time I've had to use all my regen and then a some of the regen in my dragon form was fighting Skarbrand himself. I also have since got Throt's trait and I totally forgot about the Bloody trait and will go for that. Thank you for the tips for improving this further! Extra tips for anyone interested: Zhao Ming is considered a flying unit and CAN NOT capture points in cities, even in human form. Zhao Ming with Arcane Conduit and 100 Winds of Magic reserve will take about 10 minutes to get all of it for the battle. Any unit with the Catalytic Kiln will also debuff everyone with -22% fire resist but few spells do fire damage in Cathay spells. The dragon's breath spell does fire damage though which can be nice. Storm of Fire and Wind only does magic damage though.

Plus 500 AP damage?! In the meantime, Thorgrim's axe, a weapon forged by a God and one of the most powerful weapons in the lore, gives a +7 Bonus vs Large...!

The Bejewelled Dagger is apparently a 2% random chance for completing a caravan. There's other random items, the Grant of Land gives 5% building income factionwide and the Statue of Zharr gives 25% reduced spell cooldown but causes +3 chaos corruption. I suspect that these items will have bound locations in Mortal Empires (the Grant of Land references Tilea so I expect it will be from Miragliano).

The bejewelled dagger has a 2.5% chance of being awarded to a caravan on any successful trade route after the first time that route has been done so the best way to get it is to spam caravans to the closest trade route

I have a 96% Wardsave on Miao Ying in my current Cathay-campaign. Her army is only there for moral support/cheerleading, she doesn't need it when she stomps 4 armies by herself.

Watching a One man Doomstacks with units that are human sized is like watching a cartoon with the cloud and random body parts flailing around.

Since Cathay can get a green item that grants stalk to heroes or lords, you could add a bunch of astromancers and alkemists with items that give passive bonuses to the army and then just have them on the edge of the map :)not shure about unlimited magic but you could definitly raise it a lot.

This is basically if DOTA was created in Total War instead of Warcraft.

zhao is actually insane. really interested in seeing how he'll stack up once mortal empires comes out for wh3 with whatever changes may or may not happen to other factions but yeah if no changes he's lookin like an absolute monster

Zhao's dragon form is not totally useless, but very situational to use. I noticed that he does waay more splash dmg in dragon form, so going up against useless, low level infantry, if you wanna deal out dmg to them fast, it's better to do it in dragon form, but yeah, otherwise, the human form due to it's size is a lot more flexible.

A lot of people send Zhao's first caravan down to Sylvania for the Carstein Blade and regen, but if you want him to get very powerful VERY fast you can send it to Altdorf instead - you get an item that gives the entire enemy army a HUGE -40% resistance to fire to make all his dragon-form attacks absurdly strong, and within a few turns of that you'll have hit Level 10 and picked up Regen anyway from his skill tree. Sure, eventually you get better things and his guaranteed one-item-per-battle means it doesn't take too long, but getting a guaranteed gigantic boost to his magic so early is a complete gimme.

I think you undervalue final transmutation, Specially in such big blobs. But where it really shines is againts single entities, so if you can hit a bunch of soulgrinder, you get a lot of bang for your buck

One weird thing I’ve noticed with magic (especially the doom explosions) is that the models don’t actually die, but the unit health gets tanked. So a celestial constellation spell will not kill a single gnoblar in a unit, but as soon as you use another spell the entire unit dies because the unit has 300 health left and the individual models will die to a light breeze

Sort of sad that him becoming a dragon is not useful for his melee combat. Though it does explain why I have had so much of a problem keeping him alive with my maximum charge bonus cavalry dragon build

I've found he can do a decent overcasted final transmutation, especially if you grab the item for -10% overcasted WoM. Double duration = double dmg. I definitely agree with you on the strength of him. He has tools against everything, being able to offensive magic effectively, even against ogres (transmutation of lead)

I got Skarbrand up to 50% wardsave and he's entertaining as hell to watch in a fight but I'm glad that the dragons are living up to their status as demigods in power despite being less fun to watch :D

Something I discovered when messing around with Zhao Ming solo fights. Wall of Wind & Fire bounces off walls, if you can fight next to a wall or obstacle(edge of the map does not count) you can effectively double the damage of WoWaF by having it pass over the infantry blobs twice. This also makes it one of the most winds efficient damage spells in siege maps too.

My first campaign was a zhao ming. He really can solo most armies once you level him up properly and give him good equipment. And with a metal caster nearby that can stalk, it allows him to go into dragon form and you can have her dish out a lot of metal magic. Final Transmutation is really good against a lot of single entities with zhao,as long as you have that infinite winds hack. It is expensive but it really does great damage against strong SEs. Especially paired up with other items and spells. I eventually just had zhao by himself and with a metal caster that could stalk and he won most battles. Skarbrand was the only one I lost because I didn't have an army, but I got skarbrand to about 1/3 health before I lost the battle. Zhao in dragon form against tzeentch is the only caution. He can take out lords of change and kairos really quick but pink horrors and flamers really hurt him. Sadly I gave up the campaign because 1) I got fcked over in the realm of souls race and didnt get anything good in Slannesh realm 2) couldn't destroy any factions that were ahead of me because Nurgle, Tzeentch, Khorne,and Greasus were all allies 3)Kislev got wiped out, Skrag destroyed the empire, Ogre Kingdom allies were basically done for despite my efforts, and miao ying didn't do shit to protect the great Bastion and was near useless. Still fun. I would have kept playing but I only had 2 souls and greasus had 4 so an event popped up that had me fight him to delay for 15 turns but that triggered all the rifts to reappear and armies spawn, and I was stretched thin, and losing money, and no strong allies besides my lizard bois. Who had like one decent stack. :/ Realm of souls really is lose lose if you aren't lucky

Constellation of Dragon and Wall of Wind and Fire are both awesome spell, but I found a nice niche for Final Transmutation when fighting Ogres because AoE spells are basically useless against them.

I look forward to seeing how powerful the other Dragon Siblings will be after more DLC.

Those crappy traits for beating Karl Franz, Katirina and Grombindol could be easily changed to be more like the trait for beating Grom, where the whole army causes terror when fighting against a race not just the Lord. Also causing terror when fighting against Vampires isn't totally useless as it would make you immune to their terror effect against your lord. With the Catalytic Kiln on a flying Lord you can sit above Skarbrand, N'kari, Malus or any other non flying melee lord and just slowly leech their health.

Zhao's also really good at generating items due to his +100% drop chance passive. Drops for daayyyyyyyyyyys!

The Bejeweled Dagger is a rng item you can get as reward for completing a caravan in a destination you already completed. The other rewards like that are the Statue of Zhaar which decreases spell cooldown by 25%, a follower that increases allegiance points gained with order factions, and a follower that increases income from buildings by 5% factionwide

I guess its fitting that for creatures that claim to be above the gods, that they'd be so stupidly powerful and basically capable to single handedly take out whole armies.

If you are a Demon that already causes Terror and Fear to EVERYTHING, it feels like a slap in the face when you hunt down a Legendary Lord just to receive: Causes Terror against Kislev...

i imagine with all the new SEM changes to the game, once immortal empires releases, were gonna see the meta for OMDS change a bit. hybrid lords, especially those with big skill trees like manny are gonna benefit most. the new winds system, and an extra 10 skill points are gonna be game changers.

Bejewelled dagger has a low chance to drop from any caravan target. You can farm it by sending the caravan to the closest one.

The jade amulet is amazing on zhao ming, constantly spamming high damage spells with good melee stats and 2 regen pools is very very strong lmao

I agree that currently Zhao Ming is the best, at full power. However, I think the Zhao Ming we saw in this video was worse then Miao Ming at the same ward save (You can give her regen with an item, and her melee defense is higher), and I think that when Immortal Empires comes out and you can beat Isabella, Miao Ming might also be better at full power (but it will be very close).

Well, he was my prime candidate for this role as well, he's a beast in melee and has a variety of damage spells to choose from. BTW: I find Final Transmutation to be really good in order to avoid friendly damage and is way more reliable than the other ones. Both the Wall of Wind and Fire and the Constellation are really prone for friendly fire, Final Transmutation doesn't.

I completed my first campaign with him and got a bejewelled dagger and after the final battle I was wondering I if I really needed that army or if he could do it all by himself. Zhao Ming I definitely my favourite lord in tww3

I recommend that bring 4 more wizards with stalk equipment, and Staff with the Shards of the Maws, so u can hit 200% magic strength.

you get the bejeweled dagger just by doing caravans with the same caravan masters. After a certain number of succesfull trades the master will get the item. I got 2 in my campaign with the tow caravan masters I used all the time.

Hey legend, in a "regular" battle with the dragon lords, so they have a notably larger effect on blobs when in dragon form or do you still recommend that they stay on foot?

It is worth noting that tzeentchian Forsaken have 40% spell resist, which underscores just how good Zhao Ming still is.

I'm not sure it's significant but did Legend even notice he had Stalk? Getting away to heal in dragon form would be super easy as long as the enemy doesnt have flyers

Zhao Ming's defeat trait is pretty good, +5 armor and 10% magic item chance, I farm him for all my lords.

I managed to snag the Bejeweled Dagger from my second or third caravan completion, so I don't think there's a minimum completion requirement. The caravan I got it from went to the Ogre port settlement in the south area, I forget the name.

I sure bet Kairos didn’t predict a single dragon coming out from the great bastion and slapping him and his army into the dirt

The only way to get Throtts trait if you aren’t Kislev is by traversing the portals super early in the campaign so I get that it’s a trait but you can’t really judge characters without it.

kinda weird they just let his default stance clip through the models, like one would think that was a fairly easy and important thing for animation to make sure didn't happen.

I went with army buffs for Zhao Ming so I couldn't get much magic. I just spammed cheap dragon breath to get the extra AP damage from the two casting bonuses

I had this battle the other way around, but sadly as Tzeentch... Was not fun seeing my blue and pink chicken get snacked by Zhao Ming.

i was able to get the "perfect" item combination and he was able to solo one of questbattles. Also he heals faster than taking damage.

Small Detail many didn't even thought about: Zhao Ming is the strongest one-man-doomstack... despite the fact that he doesn't have access to any of the grand campaign aspects, like some lord defeat traits or items. For example the Sword of Khaine is still much stronger than the Slaanesh Blade. (Yes the Sword of Khaine has some faction wide debuffs, but the doomstack rating is just about the strength of the doomstack and not about anything else).
