April 15th, 2024 marks the one-year anniversary of the forgotten war in Sudan. For one year, the people of Sudan have been caught in the crossfire, as the ruling military junta battles a paramilitary group known as the Rapid Support Forces, or RSF. The junta is led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan. His rival is Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, who goes by the name Hemedti. These two warlords are fighting to control Sudan. Meanwhile, over 15,000 people have been killed in the power struggle. 8.6 million Sudanese people have been displaced, making it the world's biggest displacement crisis. But only on anniversaries does the world seem to wake up and take notice.

I wouldn't say that they don't care, on the contrary they have been on the ground with a relatively large force since 2013. It's just that no coverage means no global outrage, however to say that UN forgot about them is very wrong on so many levels. Every single thing related to Sudan is pretty much done without any media coverage. Then to claim no one cares from the surrounding nations is also blatantly false, Egypt, Chad and South Sudan have all taken in and tried to facilitate aid for the refugees. Just because we don't see it on the news constantly, don't mean nothing has been done... the aid provided from the UNHCR had a budget about $850 million last year, i don't think it's enough considering the sheer amount of people affected but it's far from "we do not care". If something is true however is that no media stations care, honestly they don't since it's black people, so not even Arab media care... UN however, they care however much of the budget comes from donations and there's very little representation for the people of Sudan, especially compared to other countries in recent memory. When it comes to the UN diplomatic mission in Sudan they ended it because the Sudanese authorities asked them to do so in December last year.

Not exactly. It's more to do with Identity Crisis. Sudan is a member of the Arab League. Africa Union wants to help but this region considers themselves Arabs not Africans. The West and UN is overwhelmed. The situation is worsened by radical Islam. They keep attacking Missionaries, Volunteers and UN envoys by slitting their throats for being 'Infidels'(Non Muslims). So no one wants to risk going there
