As a Cardinals fan, it was an absolute joy to see Carp having that resurgence with the Yankees. Even when he came back to Busch in their colors and caused us a bit of trouble in our 3 game sweep of them. Just was absolutely tragic when he broke his foot... 😩

When he went out injured after fouling one off his foot... man that was tough. On Matt most of all, because it's his career, but also for Yankees fans. We were treated to some of the most exciting, clutch, power hitting I'd seen in years. Those 47 games will always be memorable. We even managed to play the Cardinals during that stretch and it was lovely to see the warm reception from Cards fans, as they clearly remembered him fondly too.

During that summer I got bored and went to watch a live yankees game which is something I don't do. Right away it was Matt getting a home run. I usually only watch cardinals games

It was awesome to see Carp bounce back after struggling with the Redbirds the last couple years he was there. I was happy for him, and I hope he can bounce back again (if he finds a new team) in '24.

I loved watching early Matt Carpenter bat. He would work the count, draw walks and shorten his swing with 2 strikes. I remember when he started hitting for power and I was against it because he totally changed his approach. But he was having success at first and that's what the people want. Homeruns. Early Matt was a phenomenal lead-off hitter.

That's what I'll always remember about him. His first few years as a leadoff hitter made me instantly fall in love with him. I don't know if it was a coach or someone that convinced him to hit for power but to me it will always be the greatest shame. It's an actual tragedy that marp didn't become the true all-star he was destined for originally.

Carps problem was they wanted him to hit homeruns, so every swing was with extreme launch angles. He would typically have a hot month or two of the season but suck the rest of the time. The yankees are the perfect fit for him with that short porch in right

As a Padre fan I can say wow! We put an end to Carpenter being even below average. He was literally below below average. I hate and love being a Padre fan. I mean it’s pure agony. Has been for decades. But I mean? I don’t think anyone could handle if they won. We talk about the Messiah coming back to earth before the Padres win anything. And I do say that with all due earnestness!

I know this is a pitcher but joba chamberlain had one of the most dominant streaks I remember seeing. When he came up to the big leagues he was lights out for a few months then his dad died and the drunk driving case and that felt like it was it. He reminded me of Clemens tho he was special for those few months still pretty decent afterwards but never that good again

Meh. Like he played out of his god damn mind, don’t get me wrong, but Carpenter was a REALLY good ball player for a lot of years. He didn’t come out of nowhere, be a superstar for a month, then be mediocre the rest of his career. He was really really good. Sucked for a couple years. Went beast mode and got hurt. And kinda not so good again (he’s old)

I was above average at times but never a Barry bonds type. Like fr? Lol look at his career stats 175 career home runs only hit over 300 twice. He only had over 100 hits 3x. His peak was so short and quick you can't even call it a peak it's like a fluke
