The brothers behind Kellogg’s Corn Flakes had a horrible feud that lasted their whole lives.
About Drunk History:
Based on the popular web series, Drunk History is the liquored-up narration of our nation’s history. Host Derek Waters, along with an ever-changing cast of actors and comedians, travels across the country to present the rich tales that every city in this land has to offer. Booze helps bring out the truth. It's just that sometimes the truth is a little incoherent.

@@nadiashireensiddiqi Luke Wilson. Their first film was also Wes Anderson's first film, Bottle Rocket. I remember seeing it in a theater when it came out. I thought it was brilliant and the two of them were superb in it. They've been in a bunch of films together, but they only played brothers in one film, that I recall. In Around the World in 80 Days they played the Wright Bros.

SpinningSage My original comment was about the way this segment was filmed rather than the people who were actually there. It cannot possibly be historically accurate that every visiting patient followed John Kellogg around all day performing calisthenics and never talking to one another. But somebody on the writing/production team thought to have them do that. And the sheer absurdity of it was a visual that made me laugh really hard. I appreciated that moment- even though I know there is MUCH more to the story. Sexual repression and micromanaging other people’s bowels never lead to healthy outcomes. But your comments seem to imply that it is somehow improper or unwarranted to enjoy a comedic moment in a comedy show if the full problematic history is not told. Seems a bit judgy, no? Believe me, I don’t back off of in-depth discussions of the worst offenses plaguing our culture- as well as the systematic and persistent nature of so many of them. I’ve also learned to just enjoy a good, hearty laugh when I can get it. And Drunk History makes me laugh- every episode, this one especially. And for that, I am eternally grateful. So this was a kudos to Derek and the rest of the team. Great job!

Sour cream, sourkrout... When Richard Webber skied to the north pole, my understanding (though I met him several times I never got to hear the story directly from him, but apparently he tells it well) the airline he contracted (possibly the Canadian air force, depending on who tells it) kept all his food in a nice warm hangar for a month prior to dropping it off on the ice: when he resupplied from his cache, EVERYTHING had soured. He called Health Canada on the sat phone and they said if it's rotten, your attempt is done, if it's sour it's up to you whether you can stomach it or not. So he ate sour EVERYTHING for 2 or 3 weeks and made it. Today he doesn't take sourkrout on his hot dogs. Lots of stuff that's past expiry is fine to eat.

That's definitely a pasta press. My grandmother (from Germany) literally had darn near the exact same one in the back room of her house. And my other grandmother had a similar one as well in her house. Washer ringers looked quite different from what was shown in this video. One of the ways you can tell the difference is the special gap in between the roller presses. There's no way you can fit clothing through them, also there's small grooves on the rollers meant to puncture and further press out air bubbles, similar to that of a pizza dough rolling docker. And an old style "washer wringer", which was only made in limited quantities...well cause hanging your clothes out to dry was faaar more effective and wringing the clothes out by hand was more effective as well; were far larger than that which is shown, which is why they didn't last long at all when they initially came out because they were far more time consuming and labor intensive AND pieces became water worn and damaged more easily than just wringing them by hand or you could just place several clothes in a large press which would be even better than the aforementioned.

This is by far my favorite Drunken History of ALL TIME, and it deserves to be made into a full fledged movie starring Owen and Luke Wilson, and co-starring Will Ferrell, Jim Carrey, Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wigg. The Duplass bros should produce & costar.

Here's another interesting fact: During his time in Australia, pioneer Adventist Ellen G. White's son Willie convinced Seventh-day Adventist Edward Halsey, a baker at John Harvey Kellogg's Battle Creek Sanitarium, to immigrate to Australia where he would start a successful food company called Sanitarium which focuses on seventh day Adventists values like vegetarianism, no sugar, etc...

Just one inaccuracy: the Seventh-day Adventist church never had "orders." I have no idea where they came up with that term to describe John H. Kellogg. He was very influential in the SDA church right up until he tried to publish a book advocating pantheism. Interestingly enough, while the book was at the printers his enormous sanitarium and the publisher both burned down spectacularly in an incident many Adventists interpreted as an act of divine judgment.
