I loved the Hugh Laurie version since seeing him play it on a PBS Great Performance special about his pilgrimage to New Orleans. I bought his CD and listen to his Swanee River often. I always said that I would learn to play that tune one day and you've just made that promise to myself a lot easier to realize. I notice that your version does not include his vocal "break" in which he changes to a different rhythm and sings briefly before returning to the Boogie Woogie again. But I think that section will be easy enough to figure out since he just comps through it..no crazy runs or licks to confound things. Thanks again.

Hi Christian! Are you meant to play the left hand completely with swinging eights ?

Superb boogie but struggling to get the hands together , can manage better with easier left hand but will keep at it as it sounds so good as written , Thanks

Yep, better an easier left hand and being tight than insisting on something too hard and shound sh***;-)

It is really hard for me to play the left hand in a steady-going way. What do you think, how many hours of practising will be required averagely to master that well.
@ChristianFuchsBlues
@ChristianFuchsBlues 4 жыл бұрын
Anybody giving you a number of hours here would be lying. It depends on too many factors. Like your skill, your age, your talent, the way you practice, what tempo you want. And what you intend to play in the right hand. This one is quite tricky, if the left hand is already posing you problems. Consider that its a bit too hard for you. Or, always a solution, play a left hand that you can master.

Thanks for this nice version. I even bought the sheet music. But to me it seems that you don't play the bass notes as shown in the score. In the score, the bass notes are all eights wheras in this KZfaq version the lengths are in a dotted eigths / sixteenth pattern, isn't it?
@ChristianFuchsBlues
@ChristianFuchsBlues 4 жыл бұрын
Generally dotted 8ths are noted as normal 8ths for better reading. You might notice that it is identical in the right hand. Very few books make exceptions. It is assumed that the reader notices that the whole piece is swing not straight feeling.

Hi Christian. Greg here from South Africa.....yes we are allowed to buy and smoke cigarettes again!!!!! Is this song played with a swung rhythm? You cant hear it so much at full speed but when slowed down it sounds like you are swinging the rhythm. Please help cause i want to play this piece by Christmas
@ChristianFuchsBlues
@ChristianFuchsBlues 4 жыл бұрын
Were you not allowed before? Why? There is no 'is played" with this kind of music. And I never heard it played fully straight. Always a little swing. But do as you please, really!

Would you figure it out for me? I can't get it. It sounds like right at the beginning he is going from up to down in notes with the left hand and down to up with the right hand.
