'Sju' is my favorite number ever. We don't have that weird sound in Danish so it always amazes me when Swedes say that number. It's so hard for me to pronounce. Counting is very straight forward in Swedish though. Nowhere as complex and weird as Danish, haha!!

Yes, it's a bit like German without those delayed verbs, and a more laid back pronunciation. One reason behind this being the connection to the Hansa league's Plattdeutch (Low German) in the middle ages. As you probably know, Swedish did not undergo the consonant shifts High German went through. Swedish also use a pretty simple grammar, even compared to English (although some word order patterns can be hard to grasp).

Quite excited for Sweden week, thank you so much for this! With the "i" and "e" thing I think the Swedish way is much more similar to how most European languages say them, English is the exception, certainly amongst Celtic and Germanic languages ( I am Welsh and speak Welsh). "i" is generally pronounced like "ee" (like the word "see") and "e" is more often pronounced like it is in the word "end." But then English is an absolute mess of a language anyway so the letters make whatever goddamn sound they want. (trough, through, taught, thorough, lololol makes perfect sense.)

The English language certainly does not follow the original idea to use the alphabet as it sounds. And the vowels often express more than one sound, as in A ( sounds like ei )

Love these language videos! I wish language would stick in my head better, but I'm just absolutely fascinated by it! My cousin (American) married a girl from Denmark and now his children are growing up bi-lingual and I'm so jealous! Maybe one day I'll really commit to a new language and learn it!

I have a suggestion! When you were first going through the alphabet and the numbers, you put on the screen how you would write it out and that was very helpful! But! When you started getting to the “exceptions” the CCs don’t know how to translate what you are saying, so it is a little harder to follow you when you don’t have the words or numbers spelled out on the screen. And I know that’s a lot of extra work on your end but it would really help a visual person understand the differences in what you are vocally saying. If that makes sense? But otherwise I love this!!! I need a pen and paper to take notes on so I can practice! ☺️😄

This video was super nice! Thank you for the lesson. I think the swedish language is very interesting and that's why maybe a year ago, I started to learn it -by myself for now, but it is really nice language. Well, it is quite different from my language ( bulgarian language) or from the other languages that I have ever learnt, but I hope some day I will improve my speaking /writing abilities. :) Best wishes from Bulgaria and I'm looking forward to your next video! :)

What an amazing and well-explained video you have here! I was looking for some swedish tutorials and I found yours! After i watched this video 2-3 times I can now count till 20 and thank you so much for that. HOWEVER, I noticed that when you count fast, you pronounced "Nie / Tie" as well as counting till 39, is this normal or rather unconsciously ? like "umgangsprachlich" auf Deutsch? :D Tack så mycket!
