I remember Siskel & Ebert voted a mild thumbs up, one even stated Burt should've received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, also Burt didn't like that quite tight suit.

The guy has been missing for (say) two years, he's had a family split, he's played around and left bitter memories for some women and has actually lost everything (and he has to be delusional, maybe having escaped from a bug factory), yet most of the pool owners, his neighbours, only seem mildly surprised by his turning up, whereas it's highly unlikely that they wouldn't be aware of his colossal crack-up.

But what’s cool is that their reactions to him become increasingly cautious the closer he gets to his home.

I'm surprised to find out he didn't like swimming. To take on a film role like where you are mainly in a swim suit or nothing at all I guess would be daunting. I enjoy less clothing by the water but I wouldn't do a whole film about it.

@@handwedge11 hmm good question. Probably, but it would be one of those artsy Oscar bate movies and it would probably be rated R for nudity most likely. Back then, they couldn't show too much but today they could have a full frontal scene. In terms of what modern actor could play the role? Not sure. Burt Lancaster was starting to age already so it would have to be an actor that's a bit older and one who is opened to doing full frontal.

*Spoiler* - he had lost his mind after losing his family. He literally thought he was swimming home. Such an interesting and underrated movie.
