The Sydney McLaughlin Situation Is Getting Out Of Control
That was last year when #sydneymclaughlin -ran to victory in the women's 400m for the National title at the US National Championships 2023. Ironically, it happened shortly before she announced that she wouldn’t be competing in Budapest.
In an Instagram story, Sydney announced that she will not compete at #trackandfield the #WorldAthletics Championships held in Budapest, Hungary.
"I am sad to share that I must withdraw from this year's World Championships meet in Budapest," she wrote at the time. "After consulting with my doctors and coaches, I need to take care of a minor knee issue so that I can be fully healthy for next year's Paris Olympics. I look forward to seeing everyone back on the track soon."
Unsurprisingly, Sydney received well-wishes and supportive messages from fans and fellow athletes. As you all know, while an injury is not uncommon in the sport, it remains unwelcome.
What could be considered a surprise, though, is that despite the injury, no matter how minor it is, Sydney had quite a season before she decided to cut her season short to focus on her recovery.

There are several amazing women running for the US nowadays (Gabby, Abby, Sha'Carri, Dalilah..), but Sydney is the most impressive. She exudes mental toughness and determination inspired with spiritual devotion. Her speed is deceivingly graceful and rhythmic. Her times are jaw-dropping record-setting. And she looks exquisite. We are fortunate to witness her approach her prime. Paris 2024.

I did not equate being outspoken as a key to her success. And, I don't believe she would either. We don't make a "deal" with God that if we talk (blah blah) about Him that we get special talents or faster times. In fact, we are told "you will suffer for believing in me." John 16:33. But, if you do have success, you point to Him-if just to thank Him for your ability to run, love of sport, etc. @@user-ti3wl9tz2g

first, i thought sydney was going to focus on the 400 meter flat? or she gave up on that cuz she feels she cant be as good as what she thought she would be? secondly, if sydney does go back to hurdling she will have to be at least on her world record level in paris looking at the progress femke makes each season. but who knows, hardly racing a year and doing a different event will not hurt her hurdles running and she will be at that old level or even better. and even if she is at that level she had 2 years ago i think its not an automatic win, but we will see in paris!

@@murasakino101 The point is, if your 'strength' is based upon believing is something or someone (imagaiginary) external (outside you), you're becoming dependant on that belief instead of trusting in yourself. Atheletes and sporters who pray to a deity to help them win, are somehow ignoring the idea that an omniscent good spirited fair god would not favor one athlete over the other. For me there's essentially no real difference between being religious or superstitious. Thsi doesn't mean any kind of positive thinking or performing rituals before a sporting event can't sometimes help someone to get into a focused mindset. Not gonna bombard you on my reasoning, but just because you may not believe, fully understand, or accept that having beliefs is a source of strength for someone, it still shouldn't equate to negativity. For me personally, my beliefs have certainly brought me through dark times and continue to but I get that not everyone has the same views. Just don't know why we can't all respect each other lol

@@murasakino101 If you would have read everything I wrote, you would have read that I do understand how certain beliefs and rituals might benefit, at least temporarely (like the placebo-effect). But I follow science and also psychology of humans. From that knowledge and my own experiences - also with having a short period of thinking I believed in a god - I have a nuanced understanding and opinion about people having strong beliefs and convictions (not based upon reality and scientific evidence) and relying much on them, and projecting things outside themselves. It's YOU and WE/US who have to deal with, behave responsibly and work for achieving things. 'Sending our thoughts and prayers' for instance might sound nice, but doesn't really help: actually using your brain and doing positive things are way more effective.
