So glad to see this amazing novel get the HBO treatment. The author was a Vietnamese refugee, now a professor, and is so deft at weaving in complex themes and nuanced perspectives into an engaging story. How on earth could someone tell the story of a half-Vietnamese, half-French, Communist mole who nonetheless wants to care for and protect his South Vietnamese brethren? Here's hoping the TV show does it justice.

One great thing about this movie so far is that the Vietnamese part actually sounds like Vietnamese, not Vietnamese with a super thick American accent like all other Hollywood movies.

Yeah, it seems Hollywood is trying to be more conscientious about not absolutely butchering other languages… you should hear “Finnish” in every movie before 2020. It’s not even intelligible. 😂

I always thought vietnamese in X-Men Days of Future Past sounded pretty good. Not the Jennifer Lawrence part though, that one was like gibberish.

My dad still has some old VHS tapes of Paris by Night show hosted by her and Nguyen Ngoc Ngan. I remember watching those when I was a little kid some 25 years ago. Haven't watched it ever since, but now I'm really excited to see her again and sort of rediscover my childhood.

It's quite surprising how she's popular and warmly welcomed in current Vietnam considering she's the daughter of the VP of South Vietnam. She went on national television (Shark Tank Vietnam) and nobody bat an eye! I thought she would have been censored.

Lol I thought that was Richard Dreyfus and Logan Lerman in the thumbnail for some reason. Was not expecting Robert Downey Jr. 😅Nice to see him do something more serious though. Reminds me of his turn in Zodiac many moons ago. Can't believe he did that before doing the first Iron Man film. Has it really been that long?
