Agree with previous comments, great video, made me happy, exactly right for synth/Thom Yorke/Radiohead nerds. I used to cut Thom's hair in my barbershop in Exeter while he was studying and starting Radiohead and he used to work and DJ in my mates clothes shop next door. Makes me proud of him and honoured because I love (most of) his music.

man, almost every video about synths on youtube features someone who either 1) can't play music 2) can't really tweak synths or 3) doesn't appear to be inclined to make any music I would ever listen to. Usually all three. (Nick Batt is an island in the storm.) THANK YOU for making this.

While I do not understand any of this(I have no understanding about music theory, harmony or anything music really) but it help me gain perspective on electronic music and how endless it is. To come up with such unique sounds on a machine that is(probably) capable of creating all manner of noises is quite baffling. Its fun to think about how Thom and Nigel came up with these sounds and how long it takes to create something like AMOK or Tomorrow's Modern Boxes\Anima.

@@JoeEdelmann3 have you gotten a chance to try the Take-5 yet? it's obviously limited polyphony but is much better than the rev2 in every single other aspect from fx, to the incredible filter, to the super deep mod matrix (with usable fm and voice spread), to the rich mind blowing vco sound. it's worth taking a look. i love what you do with the rev2, but if you like that, you'll love the Take 5

Joe Edelmann I remember having an email conversation with him about thom’s black jazzmaster. It’s listed as 1963, which may have been info that came out a long time ago. However, the neck has binding, which fender didn’t introduce until 65 after cbs took over. Do you think it’s a 65 neck on a 63 body with 63electronics? I know this is totally random, but the king of gear comment reminded me of it and I don’t think it was ever figured out. Just wanted to hear your take.
@JoeEdelmann3

Christopher Noia I’m not sure honestly, but based on my understanding of Fender history you might be right! Plenty of famous Fender player’s guitars were parts hybrids. The genius of the bolt on neck!

Has this been a jump off reference for creating your own sounds or pulling a guitar riff and reinterpreting it as a pad, bass line or melody idea? It would seem like such an interesting new way to reinvent your sound or your approach to song writing? Would love your input or ideas. I’ve often thought of picking up something in this vein for some freshness. Almost like taking a step to the left when you feel like you’ve stumbled onto an idea.

Great vid! What's the shape mod you're describing on the trip/saw at 5:30?
@JoeEdelmann3
@JoeEdelmann3 3 жыл бұрын
vampiresforesl the shape mod control is essentially a “pulse width” control (which is the most directly applicable for a purely pulse/square wave). For the saw/tri I’m not exactly sure how the shape looks when it’s varied but it does change the resonances/harmonics and apparent thinness/thickness of the sound a bit.
