Today, we're going to take a look at a very interesting little pocketknife, the Tactile Knife Co Rockwall's Thumbstud variant, which takes an existing gem, and gives it a whole new opening method. We have started to import the Tactile knives into Australia and they are very popular. Tactile had some problems with shipping to Australia and removed Australia from their ship to list but we found a way around that.. Both the Rockwall and the Bexar have extremely good fit and finish. They company is a pleasure to do business with as well.

We need more EDC knives like this in the 3” range, simple and functional while still fidget friendly and aesthetically pleasing. I wish they would make this in a more “budget”version maybe a micarta and 14c28n or s35VN.

This looks like a great design but as some others have mentioned, the Magnacut option is a big point of interest for this model and I'll personally wait to see if they'll offer it with a higher HRC in the future before making a final decision. I'm glad you compared it to the Waypoint however, as they are indeed similar in ways. I have had a Waypoint as my EDC for nearly 2 years and it's been great overall (Vanax performs well and is relatively easy to work with). I too like this is a hair under 3" which means it can legally go more places than a Waypoint, and the fit and finish likely is one step above. There are more finish options on the QCs, so I hope to see that with the Tactile offerings at some point. Cheers!

I'd take issue with a couple of points here. First, the small, low-profile thumb studs aren't great for my hands, and particularly so because they're sharp at top. To thumb-flip it I have to jam my thumb into that cutout, into the sharp edge of the stud, which is literally irritating and leads to failures. It also makes it very difficult to reverse flick the blade, which is my preferred opening method. If the studs were just 1/8" longer (like the Drift) this would be a non-issue. Second, while the blade stock is relatively thin, it's not AS thin as I'd like (and not as thin as, e.g., the Bugout or TRM Atom), and--at least with my copy--it is definitely not ground thin behind the edge. After putting on my preferred 15° per bevel, I get a reading of .026" behind the edge. Granted, that's inevitable to an extent due to the small blade, but I'd have loved to see a nice hollow grind to compensate for that. That said, I still like the knife because of the looks, quality of construction, ergonomics, materials, and USA manufacture.

I had all sorts of QC issues with my OG Rockwall. Lock rock, lock stick, gritty action. Their customer service was pretty fantastic but after I got it back from them they didn’t really fix the problems I had. I ended up having to fix the lock rock thing myself. And I still can’t get the blade perfectly centered. And I’ve tried multiple methods, multiple times. After carrying and flipping it for a day it goes right back to favoring the show side again. But… I can’t deny I still love the knife despite all its shortcomings lol.

Oh yeah! I love this knife. I have been carrying it for a week and had to check to make sure it was still in my pocket. I agree that there are not many others in it’s class. I have been searching for a knife like this for some time and almost got the Quiet Carry but was holding out for a USA made knife. I’m glad I waited because Tactile really nailed the important details. Great cutting performance Great carry profile Some more specific details I wanted; Premium materials where it matters Subdued function clip Legal to carry in Las Vegas USA made. Even though it may look a little boring laying closed on a table, I don’t care. The minimalist design is a plus for me. I especially like the way the thumb studs will not hang up on the edge of my pocket ant they are also out of the way during cutting and sharpening. Benchmade should take notes! If I w not pick, I wish the texturing was a little more interesting somehow. I’m not sure how though so I’m letting go of that. Love the knife. Keeping it forever. Done. I will be tuning in to the disassembly video. Thanks Nick!

One thing I appreciate about Tactile is they operate like they actually want our business. Regular/predictable drops, listening to customer feedback, expanding manufacturing capabilities, and excellent customer service make me want to spend money there. Other companies know their stuff sells out in seconds and don’t care about doing any of that stuff.

@@MrRide2Live2Day To be fair I would have actually been really happy with mine if it wasn't for the QC issues. I'd have even been happy if after the first trip back to the factory everything got fixed, because things happen. The fact that I had to go through 3 though really left me with some feelings though. I really, really want to like these. USA made, decently priced, nice design, but as things are right now, I just don't think they're ready. It's kind of a shame because in my mind it dilutes the brand a little bit. For example I know they are working on a fixed blade, which would be appealing to me but I'm not confident enough to buy one now (The restock fee they have for returns doesn't help). I really do wish them the best though, and hope they get their feet under them.

Hah, you did review this latest Rockwall with the MagnaCut. I'm slightly disappointed to see that clip, as the one of the nits I have with the CF Bugout is that it's hard to get on/off my carhartt jeans. This looks to have the same problems potentially. The Hogue DR you reviewed had a better looking clip with a longer ramp to it. In regard to $300, this is a much better knife than my CF Bugout by the looks of it, but it is smaller. Still this is a much classier gentleman EDC that has bearings. I'm not sure if I will find the button lock safe or not, I do like the axis lock and think the Hogue DR lock is similar. Thanks for another great review. Still would like something a bit more personal.

I actually purchased the flipper Rockwall last year, and tbh, I wasn’t that impressed with the quality. Initially, there was an issue with positioning of the logo on the blade (wasn’t properly centered in the finger groove when closed like it was on the other side). I told them, and they sent me another one, which had poor symmetry of the blade grinding in general as if it was done by hand. I still hold a grudge against Tactile for charging me a restocking fee when I returned it for a refund.

I have the flipper version. I like the looks and size, but it misses a snappy detent, the action is generally terrible (not even shake-shut and gritty without grit as well) and the clip wouldn’t fit my pockets until i bended the clip so far outward that it doesn’t touch the scale anymore and now tics when I hold the knife. That’s too much frustration for a 300 usd knife. I also have the Waypoint that doesn’t have any of those issues and therefor finds my pockets way more often.

Nick, I would request when you are doing your reviews, consider the cost of the knife being reviewed in terms of a multiple of a Rat 2. Fot example: is this knife worth 9 (Rat 2)? Obviously this is not apples to apples, better steel, better scales, etc. But, would you have more fun buying one of these knives, versus 9 (Rat 2)?
