Widely considered Destiny’s best year, the Taken King was the dlc, as described by Luke Smith and Mark Noseworthy, as a “pivotal” moment for the game. This dlc was massive and even by today’s standard of Destiny’s seasonal model, the taken king proved to have a whole year of innovations for the game. Where as Destiny’s first year could be seen as the great experiment, filled with bumps, crunch, bad business, and beneath it all, beauty; the taken king looked to innovate and break new ground for what an FPS looter shooter could come up with. This was uncharted water, but long time world of warcraft veteran, Luke Smith, was very familiar with the elements that made the greatest MMO of all time work. Deemed Scarab Lord in World of Warcraft, Smith would lead the direction and the vision for the Destiny playerbases story and who better than the father of a raid boss to be the iconic villain, so today we look back at the taken king, 8 years later..
