On March 21st 1774 The Leeds & Liverpool Canal opened up the might Bingley 5 Rise Staircase Locks to a huge crowd of over 30000 people
Now 250 years later, these locks are still used daily and in this video i am here to accend the lock flight on a widebeam boat exactly 250 years later to the day it was opened.
I'll also be taking a look at the nearby Seven Arches Aqueduct
'Clear Skies' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au

Ant, I hate to repeat myself but you, Martin and Darren are so lucky to have so much history to explore. That lock infrastructure is amazing considering its now over 250 years young. This is a perfect example of "Do it right the first time."

My grandparents lived in Skipton, and I remember going to see the Bingley locks back in the late 60’s / early 70’s. Thanks again Ant for a great video.

I had the great pleasure of doing all 3 sets of locks at Bingly for real a few years back, what an introduction to canals !. Did the return trip a few days later ,what a great trip ,lock keepers on all the locks are brilliant, very friendly and helpful, could not have done it without their help and guidance, thankyou to them all.

Had a canal holiday about ten years ago - thoroughly enjoyed driving the boat, particularly through the mile and three quarters Netherton tunnel! The Bingley rise I would have loved, too. What a lovely viaduct you ended with, as well ! Thanks for a fascinating canal video, Ant - do some more!

That's amazing. I was only there last week. Planned to shoot some video myself but it was absolutely chucking down (Wednesday 27th) Saw Helen's Drum moored up at the top. Can't have missed you guys by much.. Would have dragged you in The Royal for a pint if I had. We have a restoration project ongoing in a local yard.

The Five Rise is not the tallest staircase in Britain: Neptune's Staircase on the Caledonian Canal is taller, but not as steep (8 locks rather than 5).
