The tanbūra or fun el-Noban in the Gulf states fell under the so-called expatriate arts genre. Meaning arts that arrived in the Gulf by African immigrants. According to the Kuwaiti Songbook for at least 150 years, citing narrators such as Ahmed Al-Bashar Al-Roumi, Saleh Marjan and Muhammad Al-Rashed. Fun el-Noban music has today become part of the Gulf States’ traditional folklore for people of African descent and has also become acceptable to many, because of its melodies and African rhythmic characters. In recent times, it has become a popular art form, performed at cultural festivals in the Gulf States, perhaps as a genre of inclusion for minority citizens of African origin.
