Tairāwhiti Museum is located beside the Taruheru River. This river is one of the three main rivers of Tūranga / Gisborne and is thought to be named after the sweet smelling native moss that used to grow on the river banks. Photographs from the Tairāwhiti Museum's extensive historic collection are brought to life through animation and narration, showing how local life has changed both on and around the Taruheru River, spanning just over a hundred years of history. This video is one of the exhibits that can be found in Wyllie Cottage (built c 1872), located next to Tairāwhiti Museum.
