I remember the first time I watched this. Every character had their charms but CJ was always a good time and then this episode came along and you had Sam say "Who gives a damn about sweeps and she said. "They do." And it hit me so hard, something so simple but. "Who gives a damn about what people like?" It made me love her character, even if it was her job, but that she saw that they were people even if it was just that they liked something so silly. And it made Sam entirely lose me because he was just another political schemer. I never really looked at any Politican, real or fictional the same. "Who gives a damn about May sweeps."

If I remember correctly, the word was used in other places too. It makes sense to have a code name because sometimes you have to call a meeting when others are present. Even Margaret had one where she said “ Leo wants to to say hello to an old friend” or something like that.

I have a theory that part of the reason why your candidate's lies and character doesn't seem to matter, is because the voters are campaigned to vote AGAINST the opposing candidate and not FOR their own candidate.

People are unhappy when either the lie or the truth is uncomfortable to their personal situation. It's like ignoring reality would somehow make reality easier to handle.

I've never heard oy Mae Sweeps....a vacuum of sorts maybe.... but I have participated in May Sweeps and STILL hated the added TV Ads that were crammed into the time slots.

Remember this was before the concept of viewing on demand and streaming. People had to watch television shows when they were broadcast or wait for reruns later.
