I’m sure they do get them. I do think the door opening & “it’s time for you to go” is super cringey. We know it’s not that quick - they’ve got their own painting gear to pack up. I prefer the group goodbyes in these type of shows. More real & heartfelt & less awkward

this show demonstrates in which great times we live. You don't need a TV deal to do this, you can bring them from all over the world, and they still can communicate very well. A few decades ago not even neighbor countries could understand each other and you had to kiss up to some slimey TV people ... and a trip around the world took 80 days.

I loved watching people enjoy painting together it is refreshing. However I was really disappointed of judges I think their suggestions just ruined the piece. The omega group did really well I think their painting was unique and I could see the different styles coming together making something even more special. But after the judges made their "critique" the painting became the cliché they adore. I would rather buy the half finished painting the group started than what the judges asked them to make.

Completely agree! I loved the beginning stages and colours of the Omega group! They had such a strong start and I'm sure without the judges they would have still had time to add more of each of themselves without ruining what they already had! I'm not a big fan of this kitsch style the judges seem to love.

I guess it depends on the criteria on how it’s being judged. It’s really difficult for a group of developed artists to collaborate & not have one dominant style overtake the others. But it was clearly Jessie’s style from the outset. Which was a compliment really from the other artists, as unlike other art shows I’ve seen where groups have collaborated & one has just taken over & crushed the others, the other artists seem to admire her style. But I do get what the judges said - the two pieces wouldn’t have been standalone pieces. One was a cut off wing with some birds coming out of it & was definitely just an extension of the figure. It is super hard to change direction half way through a painting though, especially on a time limit & a group challenge at that. Now if the wing had been a wholly separate piece & emphasised the bird rising, that might have worked & been more interesting than the two faces. But the other team’s piece was strong, cohesive & definitely worked as a group piece without obviously being done by any one artist. If they’d judged that round blind & been asked to guess who the artists were in each group, I think it would have been tough to pick anyone apart from Jessie. So based on what they were looking for, their criticism was totally valid imo. Do I like the trite fantasy pics? Not really. I prefer interesting ones like some of the ones from the gods challenge & the self portrait that weren’t obvious. If you think back now, which pics do you remember?

I can't understand why they are producing such full and busy pieces. As an artist and studio director I feel that there's a lack of individuality and style....have all these people been on the Milan course? I also find the critiques very basic and bland... not showing any real artistic knowledge. Anyone agree?

The faces they paint are really strange, mannequin like, or AI they all have the same style in this area. Also the women's bodies and breasts all unrealistic and plastic looking. The colour stories are gorgeous but the styles of painting on the whole to me are all too similar. I suppose that is what is popular and what sells, it pleases the mainstream population I suppose.

Yes they need some focus on portrait and figure proportions. Lack of understanding the form seems across the board. You can't cover that up with wings or glitter.

@@LIFESaWONDERI actually disagree with that - the judges made it clear from the first episode that they’re looking for creativity & out of the box thinking, rather than sticking to their own style. But the challenges aren’t extending their style & challenging their skill, just putting them under pressure, which causes people to revert to what is “safe”

I watched the episode and agree with nearly all the comments. Unless the footage was edited, I found the treatment of the artists too harsh (try watching the Great British Baking Show to see how talented participants should be treated). You would want them to do their best work - they do not need to be exhausted when they paint, or surprised (as per Survivor-that’s a different kind of show). Support and hugs all around would be appreciated. I realize that this is sponsored by and a promo for the Milan Art Institute (which, by the way, I follow and appreciate), but I think the addition of a non-affiliated, qualified juror would allow artists to paint things other than dreamy portraits, thus allowing their personal styles to shine. And instead of Jake being a task master, I’d use someone who bonds more with the contestants, Perhaps even with humor.

The judges were right: Jesse's work is amazingly dominant and strong; in fact, her initial painting and concept was wonderfully exuberant, even brilliant in my view, before the judges stepped in to stress "collaboration," which then ruined the triptych, sadly. My God, what a sellable BEAUTY it would have been!
@allisonjames2923

It’s interesting how different people are drawn to different things. I can appreciate her style - it’s definitely very strong, vibrant & distinct, but not my style at all. Too simplistic & “pop art” for my liking. I prefer more unique artists with more complex styles like Mark Munroe-Preston, Stephanie Law & Rebecca Vincent. But each to their own & just from the comments by the judges & contestants, her style is very popular. That’s the awesome thing about art - there is something for everyone’s taste

Ok. It was much better hearing the critique on these paintings as the decisions made sense, and seeing those paintings with the diptych made a huge difference as on their own I didn’t think any of them fit. I do agree that at the halfway point, the omega team’s painting looked all Jessie, but I do get what she was saying about how the plan was for the other styles to be painted on top. I don’t know if that would have worked though as her style is so dominant & distinct. And I was hugely impressed that the alpha team managed to not just cooperate well, but created such a cohesive, beautiful painting that wasn’t dominated by any one of them. That challenge would be my nightmare lol. I still wish that their names came up every time they did a piece to camera.
@allisonjames2923
@allisonjames2923 7 ай бұрын
May I suggest you look at the format of Britain’s Great Pottery Throwdown rather than so much of the Survivor style? It’s more supportive & learning oriented as well as having challenges, rather than just sudden death where you’re only as good as your last piece. Considering this competition seems to be quite strongly linked to the Milan Art Institute & presumably you want to encourage more students to join the course, rather than just promote the competition. I really felt the critique in this episode was far more helpful & constructive than previous ones, and using challenges & lessons that take the contestants out of their comfort zones & extend them as artists would be more in keeping with those goals. And would present the judges, who seem to be Institute instructors, in a more positive light. The series is super popular as it’s more about creating rather than back stabbing, group dynamics etc & the kind of people who are interested in art competitions & learning are usually looking for confidence building & inspiration, rather than seeing people’s confidence get shattered.

While they crate from their MIND, some from knowledge of something They had seen, know the colors in mind, I will try to create English IVY, the stems that will inter twine with a post, continue the Clematis, vine and leaves, that are different . all in REALISTIC approach. The house wren is completed, and the flowers of the Clematis are finished, and so is the garden house, with the opening, I have not decided to have one Last young wren in the nest, or add a background. A lot of detail of thin veins in the English IVY, shadows. So I turn the painting upside down, so I see SHAPES, instead of leaves. Which is in a Form of Abstract , even though NOT ACCEPTED IN THE ART WORLD AS REAL ART.
