Falcon Rods Presents - The Technique Series. Episode 8 features pro angler Bradley Hallman showing you how versatile the jig can be in any season. Approaching the lake with an open mind, Hallman eventually narrows his bait selection down to fishing the flipping jig in shallow water. Find out when he likes to use the flipping jig for bass, how he figures out the pattern, and why he uses the Falcon rod he uses for this shallow water technique.

Yep, back in the day those 5:1 ratio reels were "high speed".....Great video and smoooooth editing.

We had 6:1 reels- we liked the 5:1 because of the torque it offered. I've got an old AG winch still- 5:1 ratio- that thing will pull my truck out if it gets stuck. I bought some pork so I can throw the jig and pig on it- get me a pair of old Ray-ban glasses, a trucker's hat, and hook up my old color selector technology- I'm a young man again. Well, at least I can pretend I am anyway.

A lot more than just flooded waters can push them up shallow in the hottest parts of the year. Right now the guys on the Tenn. river lakes are finding bass shallow- which is unusual really- but the thermocline developed sooner than usual this year. Once it develops they have to move shallow to find oxygen and food. The Tenn. river lakes rarely flood because they keep the levels down so low during spring trying to avoid just that- if they flooded there would be millions in property damage. That said- it rained all year like crazy and everything else- any body of water without a spillway to control the levels- flooded like crazy and stayed that way all summer so- maybe that helped to push them up shallow to- new food entering the water- it's possible. Maybe they sense they should be on the banks even if the water levels don't rise very much- to take advantage of all the new food being washed into the system and the higher oxygen content. This week it finally stopped raining- hasn't rained in 4 days- which is the longest we've been dry since Dec. The waters are finally falling back- so i assume they've pulled out to avoid being trapped. But I bet they're still pretty close to the shallow water- they're definitely not going deep with that thermocline.

I've never spent much time practicing the traditional scissor flip which is probably why I'm not good at it lol But I feel like it's more for laying the lure in there super soft on shorter casts but I still prefer "pitching" 🤷‍♂️ When I can't get on the water, I'll take my little gold pans and set them in the yard under a tree and stand on a stone from the flowerbed and practice pitching into them at different distances. And the neighbors look at me funny but it's no different than playing catch with a baseball and it's fun!

That lake is underrated, it started getting vegetation in it and clear water and it's loaded with bait. I caught one that should've been around 4.5 yesterday but she was post spawn, skinny. Red beat up tail. Water takes longer to get warm and they spawn through July most years. That corner he was in I hit from the bank on lunch breaks and catch some good ones. And I throw big baits in the clearer sections and see how many giants are in there.

@@BradleyHallmanFishing I like seeing how you attack our home lakes vs myself and other guys. Whats crazy about Hefner is I've seen Frye in the middle of August. Last night I lost either 8lb largemouth or giant striper. Couldn't tell bc the water getting muddied by the wind. I tired to horse it and the treble came unhooked. The fall gets stupid when the millions of gizzards start feeding on the already along rocky banks.

@@BradleyHallmanFishing yea its fun, the past 2 years the muscles have cleared the water up so much u could see down like 12-14ft at times and some coontail and other vegetation started growing. The rain has held the vegetation back this year but when it mats up it gets real fun. When grassy and clear I'll either throw the frog or big swimbaits, and throw the strike king mega dog sometimes. Those fish love some big baits when they can see them. Pretty diverse little lake the past 3 years.

Today i used a medium heavy 8foot 1/4-1oz fast rod on big pikes with a heavy cover jig, and i missed 2 very big ones today! I think my rod is to light to properly set the hook and after both pikes i felt the hook point was not as sharp anymore as before the hookset. Maybe i hit something hard in his mouth his teeth? But this happend at 2 big ones! I am thinking about getting a heavy or extra heavy rod for throwing heavy wire jigheads! I will keep using my 8foot medium heavy rod for light wire texas hooks and jika rigs and thinwire jigheads in more open water where there is not heavy cover.

Depending on what feel you are looking for, the Cara Super duty rod is our biggest rod. It was built for flipping mats with heavy weights. Similar action, but not as long would be the Expert Amistad XH or Cara Pitching rod. Good luck!

@FalconRods
@FalconRods 9 ай бұрын
The Cara amistad is going to be more crisp/stiffer because of the modulus in the graphite. If you have a chance to hold them side by side in the store you will quickly see the difference. Hope that helps. Good luck

It’s a technique used for close contact fishing. Most of the time they are actually doing the “pitching” technique but most anglers refer to both techniques as “flipping”
