Most Americans are unaware of foreign cases. But then they are unaware of a lot of American cases. I'd wager you've never heard of Gary Ridgway. Most Americans aren't because the FBI kept his deal out of the media. But after his first set of convictions he became the most prolific serial killer in US history with 48 convictions. 48 is still higher than the next highest, 43, but due to this deal he now has 96 convictions: 91 in Washington, 3 in Oregon and 2 in California. He still has 28 cases pending as Washington authorities are still trying to locate the bodies for those women. For 4 decades he killed nearly unhindered in King, Pierce and Thurston counties in western Washington. 119 in Washington, 3 in Oregon and 2 in California is the presumed count as that's how many he confessed to in the deal with the FBI. This doesn't include any he may have killed in the other 47 states, Germany or Vietnam in which he lived. The Vietnam count is suspected to much higher as he targeted teenager or younger looking prostitutes. Vietnam during the war would of have thousands running around and the government doesn't track their deaths or disappearances. So the FBI's theory is that spending 7 years in a target rich in which no one gave a damn about the victims he'd of been killing on a nearly weekly if not daily basis. Though he is the most prolific, he's no where near the most infamous. Though you and others might know the silly moniker that the media gave him before he was caught: The Green River Killer. Never give these monsters cool titles. Apologies I forgot about Samuel Little. So second is 60 not 43. Authorities think Little might be the most prolific, and he could very well be, but actually prolific is based on convictions not suspicions, so Little would still be second as Ridgeway has already been convicted of 96. But to honest, even with FBI making these confession deals I doubt we'll ever know any of their kill counts. But we should be aware of anyone with 3+ kills, if for no other reason the danger they present and still present behind bars. Hell Bundy escaped prison 4 times. So them being locked up doesn't make us safe from them.

The reason Korea still sentenced to death despite not carrying out execution is that symbolically still death penalty for the murderer feel different than life sentence without possibility of parole. In their mind , they are living in the the shadow of death despite no death row inmates ever executed since 1997 . Psychologically it will still affect them significantly if they have a death sentence instead of life without parole .

If it's the case I'm thinking about - no one was happy about this and there were protests. The guy needed a police escort to make sure they wouldn't kill him on the way home. All over the world the justice system is inconsistent and imperfect, but don't make it out like most people wouldn't be happy if he got the death penalty too. He got a reduced sentence because back then being drunk/under the influence was legally considered a mitigating factor in trial. Not because anyone thought he was slightly less evil.

@@channelnamehere1402What I found awful was that the father of the victim pleading with the old man who committed the assault to not move back as he didn't want his daughter (the victim) to have to relive the trauma by his return back to the community. Of course, like the sleeze bag he was, the old man moved back anyway, and the family had to leave the community which protected and supported them even years after. Not only that, but I dont know how true this is, but apparently the wife of the old man would follow the victim and her family around town.

watched some korean drama with serial killers and a lot is similar with this one.. im surprised with korean sentencing when watching drama.. criminals are sentenced with few years only.. so sad for the victims and their families

It’s so strange as a young(ish) person to hear stories from older folks about the pre-digital world, especially when we’ve grown up literally surrounded by this technology. There are many many good things about social media. Such as you can talk to people around the world, learn about anything you can imagine, solve crimes, helps a ton with my animal rescue, fundraising etc.

I feel like I would personally struggle between mourning the loss of a family member I thought I knew better and overwhelming guilt of being related to such aa monster who took the lives of innocent people. It's got to be a really hard thing to deal with. We often focus on the victims and their families (as we absolutely should, of course), but we don't usually stop to acknowledge that there's many painful emotions likely experienced by the family and friends of the murderer as well.

Yes Kimmie I wonder this as well. I actually, my half brother pulled a gun on a police officer but the cop didn't film anything until after he had shot and killed my brother, so the family refused to believe he did this. But I knew better than anyone he most likely did do it. Because I had seen him a couple hours before that and he said he wasn't going back to jail dead serious just like our dead dad. I knew that was strange but thought loaning him money would get him by until his girlfriend gave me his meds because she stole them and he was very sick and desperate. She inadvertently caused him to do exactly what a person with his condition would do and now almost 6 years later she plays victim still our mother can't believe he would do this. Of course it's my fault too, because things were going so well for so long and he had been such a good guy that I bought him the pistol he had wanted for years.... So I'm at fault too. We grew up shooting he and I always had access to guns but he loved that gun in particular and I shouldn't have gotten it. He then most likely would not have been armed that night. Fuck what a tragedy. Now my best friend and family the one who knew everything about me my darkest secrets and loved me anyway is gone and our beautiful little sister and mother are heartbroken and crestfallen. My sister doesn't blame me But nobody knows what I know they wouldn't believe me. My sister when I stay with her never prods or asks, but mom, she can't let it go. I did right at the trial and told the truth in front of her and the officer did wrong by not recording and then leaving him dying on the ground then assaulting him with his neck blown wide open. Scumbag. He may have done right to shoot him, but he didn't have to handcuff a dying man with no weapon as the gun was far from him when the recording starts and the gurgling is horrific. He donated all his organs and his heart still pumps for a man today. God bless him. If only he was on his meds he was a truly good man and would help you no matter what. He would get you a job he would give you a ride he would let you sleep at his house he would even fight for you literally against people twice his size and win. He was a man. And he was put in a delusional state by a spiteful girlfriend who claimed to love him and dared make a scene t the funeral where we the family are the ones who are absolutely dead inside and I can't bare to tell anyone the truth they just don't understand and don't need to.

I agree , nobody else covers a lot of these stories. I am firm believer in fate and I don't believe there is much wiggle room for free will. We can't choose our parents or which country we are born in and as children we pick our friends also is based on which which area our parents live in which is not in our hands aswell. I think about that too. I’ve worked in law enforcement for a very long time. I’ve met and dealt with the worst in child abuse and sex crimes. I quit when my youngest was born. I couldn’t do it anymore because I became myopic about there being a bad guy/gal around every corner wanting to harm me or my children.

Dogs do hit different. There's still a difference that we, as humanity, are able to make between domesticated animals vs livestock. That's why people get enraged when dogs are subject to becoming food whereas many other animals are totally fine as edible items on your local market or shelf. There's a very clear segregation between the bonds that we are capable of forming with animals. Primarily dogs and cats are at a level of being pets. Everything else is either a potential pet or mostly food. So it makes sense.

There's always these people on these kind of videos saying "I don't care about the people let's care about the animals."

I was questioning this, I know I was in South Korea in the 90’s and ate dog, (didn’t know that it was till it was in my tummy) but was not sure if it was still done nowadays.

@@angelagraff1666 They are trying to outlaw it now. When I lived in Seoul it's not common at all anymore in the big city, but in rural areas they still do. My ex girlfriends family still ate dog (they lived in rural area in the south just above Busan) so that's how I know it's still happening. Hope that helps :).
