The Temperance Seven arebarely a shadow of the original line-up - but Petula Clark: gorgeous! I don't think I ever fully appreciated her before. Truly great - thank you.

Years ago I bought a version of Sgt. Pepper recorded in doo-wop style. This is another interesting twist.

Several of The Beatles songs of the Sgt. Pepper (note correct spelling!) period have the same dry wit and wistfulness that was displayed by the Temperance Seven - harking back to earlier times but in a pastiche fashion that also somehow fits contemporary themes, so I'm not surprised this works so well. Also, don't forget that The Beatles had roots that weren't just in Pop Music - they used to play Ain't She Sweet regularly in the early 1960s! As for Petula Clark, well she could sing anything and come out on top - a very underrated singer.

This is just so wrong in so many ways, from Pet choosing to do SPLHCB rather than one of their more balladic offerings, through the style (pseudo 1920's), to the rather overused long pull back at the end even if it does reveal another joke ... But it's beautiful! Pet's expression when she's introducing "Billy Shears" would fossilise you at 50 feet if she aimed it at you. I want more! (Goes back up the screen to click on Replay)

That vocalist is one Ted Wood, Ronnie's brother, NOT Dudley Moore - mind you all sorts of people looked like that - the universal hair style! Willie Hastie, Alan Cooper, Bill Greenow - what a reed section!

Great song - great clip - but that doesn't look like or sound at all like Dud, and it's the same look and sound as the guy who sings in the other T7 clips! That Dud is such a bloody master of disguise!

Very nice. But I'll dispute that Sgt. peppers was the first concept album in pop music. Frank Sinatra's wee small hours of the morning was definitely a concept out and was released in 1954

No way is that Dudley Moore. He looks familiar but it ain't Dud!
@seanmoyses5 жыл бұрын
It's not Dud, it is Ted Wood, brother of guitarist Ronnie (Rolling Stones) Wood.

Oh dear! Petula Clark is a fine singer and entertainer. The Temperance Seven a good trad jazz band. Unfortunately Tring to sing an iconic Beatles number just didn’t work. Stick to what you do best guys!

LIGHTEN UP MATE!!!! Were you away that day they gave out a sense of humour to everyone? This is a BRILLIANT and very Quirky rendition of an all time great pop song. Petula Clark does a incredible and marvelous job of singing 20's style but then again we are talking about a Mega- Talented and unmatchable performer of the highest calibre. Well done Petula and the boys and thanks for the fun. 😂👍

Not quite an ideal song to do a vaudeville-style cover to.

Quite the contrary. It simply works.
