When Kyle fell in love with Sarah thru a picture, I guess he was drawn to her. They were destined to be together. Their lives forever intertwined thru a time loop. Soul mates across time. @39Hundred - Except he didn't fully know that - that this is some kind of destiny and so on. He was definitely attracted to her, as a mother of John Connor, as somebody that only could hear the stories about John's mother, and seeing the photo all the time... but he didn't know at that point that he was going to be his father (John's). He actually never knew that at this point in time (as he dies before knowing that). I would also say that she wasn't fully thinking just about him at the point when photo was taken, which was probably 3-4 months after Kyle Reese has been killed by the Terminator (or more, considering the size of her pregnancy in the car, and outside at the petrol station). Also I think she didn't know that it was that particular photo that Kyle Reese was refering too, when he was mentioning the photo of her. For her it was just another random photo at this point in time. I would assume that she was also thinking about the "storm" that is comming, the baby, Terminator(s), end of the world, or the future that can be changed, and what will happen next and so on...

Other viewers have criticized Kyle Reese for his "creepy" behavior here and there. They dont seem to understand Kyles character. Kyle was being very suspicious at first. He may be a little crude at first. Kyle may seem very obsessed with Sarah. Although, he didnt just fall in love with Sarahs picture. "It was a chance to meet the legend, Sarah Connor." But people need to realize where Kyle comes from. He has probably never had the time to develop any healthy relationship. Hes had to live the coldest, most calculated and strategic lifestyle imaginable. Kyle has come from h**l on Earth, quite literally. Its the worst / hardest kind of survivalism. IMO, Reese is a very underrated and overlooked hero in film history.

Yup. He knew it was a one-way trip, and that he wasn't coming back. Also, he probably knew he'd die protecting her. How many of us would die for someone we knew was a legend and needed a self-sacrifice to save them? Kyle probably never had a clue he'd end up John's father.

what kind of dating experience could Kyle possibly get after Judgement Day? Even if you found someone you were romantically interested in, you can't go out for dinner and a movie when you're fighting killer robots and trying to keep the human race from being wiped out. - You can't blame anyone that comes from an environment like that, and expect them to follow "proper" dating/romance procedures. No way can they be held to those standards, that's unrealistic and unreasonable. Sarah herself said that she and Kyle loved a lifetime in one night, so if she's cool with Kyle's "romance" then who are we to judge?

2:12 Body double for Arnold in 1984? Nope.😁(A few years earlier, in the movie Conan, they could only use a body double for the distant scenes because of Arnold's appearance. It may seem strange nowadays but at that time, apart from professional bodybuilders, there were not many people with such a muscular appearance, and Arnold stood out even among the professionals.)

@@thomasrickelman5468 Yes, the one you see from 28:19 is Franco Columbu (1941-2019), Arnold's (almost) all-time training partner and best friend. He played the role of the 'T800 CSM-102'. (Cyberdyne Systems Model 102. Arnold was the Model 101 of the same T800 series.) In the infiltrator mode gameplay of the game Terminator: Resistance, the Terminator looks quite similar to Franco Columbu as he looked in T1, which is obviously not a coincidence.

@@IdealUser - it was Harlan Ellison story mostly (or fully). The story goes like this: in or around 1984 someone tells Harlan Ellison that they think the script for The Terminator sounds similar to his script for an Outer Limits episode called "Soldier" which Ellison had actually adapted from his own short story, "Soldier Out of Time." The stories deal with a guy from the future who ends up on some contemporary 20th century streets. What happened next (according to Ellison almost exclusively) was that the production company in question - Hemdale - started avoiding Ellison’s inquires to see a script. Eventually, after sneaking into an advance screening of the film, Ellison determined that there were enough elements of Terminator similar to both "Solider" and to another Outer Limits he wrote, "Demon With a Glass Hand" to make a case against Terminator director James Cameron and Hemdale Studios. Most damning, though, was a quote from James Cameron - which was supposed to have appeared in a magazine called Starlog - in which the director gave an interview about The Terminator ahead of its release. When asked where he got the idea from, he said: "I ripped off a few Outer Limits segments." Anyway, it doesn't matter much now. At that time it was (and stil is) an classic movie in itself.

Modern petrol and diesel degrade after 6 months. Older cars were a lot more tolerant about fuel quality and any early 80s or earlier car can be relatively easily converted to run off something you'd produce out of a prohibition-era moonshine still. Maybe not smoothly, but it's not like they're going to be picky drivers. People keep engines going in some pretty awful conditions on fuel of dubious quality in plenty of countries, and keep them going for decades. This isn't just some vehicle abandoned at the side of the road (which absolutely would be in no state to drive).

Another suggestion I'd recommend is the 1987 American sci-fi dystopian action movie The Running Man, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Richard Dawson, and Jesse Ventura. It's a fun, if a little goofy and cheesy, action movie with a great 80's villain, with Richard Dawson as evil game show host Damon Killian. It's about a man framed for a crime and forced to be on a game show where he's hunted by professional killers. It's a fun one based on a Stephen King book and one of the only movies that makes a mention of my hometown of Bakersfield, California.

I'm really glad you like the movie. I say this whenever someone watches the first movie, but I think it's important and it's really just neat, at least to me. I think the movie is even more amazing when you realize that this movie had basically _no_ budget. That's why the look of the Arnold puppet is a bit--dodgy. James Cameron has proved--starting with the sequel to this very movie--that given the money, he _will_ make a movie look good, and make everything look fitting. It's also important to note that time was a problem, particularly with the stop-motion segments. The Terminator skeleton puppet wasn't given to the stop-motion team until almost the very last minute, so they had less than a _quarter_ of the time to take their measurements, make a model, and film it than they should have had. As such, the stop-motion scenes aren't as great as they could have been. It's too little money and too little time. As for the time shenanigans--well, the franchise doesn't keep it straight; how time travel "works" varies from movie to movie, sometimes even in the same movie. That aside, how it works, here, is pretty straightforward. It's a stable time loop. Reese went back to protect Sarah because he was more or less goaded into volunteering by John, because Kyle had gone back to save his mother before he was born. It sounds weird, I know, but to make sense of it you have to start wrapping your head around the idea that effect can precede cause. As for how it "works" with Kyle being a young man in the past, think of it like moving around in your apartment or house. You're in the kitchen, then you go into the living room. That you're in the living room now doesn't change the fact that you were just in the kitchen. Similarly, Kyle unaliving in 1984 doesn't mean he wasn't born in 20XX. From _his_ perspective, he was in 2029 yesterday, even though from _our_ perspective he won't have been in 2029 for forty-five years. Both perspectives are "right", which can be a real tough one to wrap your head around, I know. That aside, I'm fully on-board with the "watch the sequel" train. It really is considered as good, some even consider it much better, than the first. Also, as I alluded to, it had a bigger budget and a lot more time, so everything looks positively stunning. Everything _after_ the second movie is where things get argumentative in the fanbase. Everyone loves the first two, but from there on it's a mixed bag. Between a handful of movies and a television show, plots are picked up and thrown away, the physics of pretty much everything vary based on the movie or show, and in general it's--frankly, it's a mess. Personally, I suggest to just ignore the franchise after the sequel, save for _Terminator: Dark Fate._ The movies and series get really weird, contradict each other and themselves, and generally are just a mess, as I said. _Dark Fate,_ however, was made specifically to take place after the first sequel, _Terminator 2: Judgment Day,_ so it thoroughly ignores all that chaos, plus it was created with direct involvement by James Cameron. Personally, I feel it's a very good third movie to follow the first two. That said, you're going to get a lot of people arguing for or against the entire franchise, so really, it's up to you, of course. Alllllll of that aside, if you like time travel movies, I have two to suggest: _Primer_ and _Predestination._ Both feature stable time loops rather heavily, but go in somewhat different directions with them. I do suggest to look up absolutely _nothing_ about _Predestination._ There is no way to get any information without really spoiling the movie, so just make sure you have the one starring Ethan Hawke and you'll be fine. 🏳‍🌈🖖

One interesting thing to note is that while this movie and its sequel are nearly identical story-wise, their genre is different. You have a great horror film in this one, and a great action film in the second.

The really great action movies have a good story and likable characters to give the action meaning. T2 really took the concept of the first and knocked it out of the park. Revolutionary effects that still look good to this day, awesome characters, great story - really looking forward to your reaction!

It's better than not running! 9:22 A house-mate of mine had a bearded dragon. It just needed a basking rock, a heat lamp and some food, crickets and leaves. I saw the second one first, so I already knew, but you twigged that Kyle was going to be John's father faster than a lot of reactors.

At this point in 1984, Kyle Reese hasn't even been born yet. John Connor is legitimately older than his own dad. If Kyle had never gone back to 1984, John would never exist and if the Terminator had never gone back to 1984, the technology used to create Skynet would have never existed. It's a huge paradox. Trying to wrap your head around time travel can drive you insane, lol.

Great reaction Amber! Definitely watch Terminator 2. It's one of the greatest sequels of all time. It is a bit more action oriented than the first one, but I think you'll enjoy it. Make sure you watch the theatrical release. The director's cut adds some additional scenes, but they don't do much for the story and can make the pacing drag a bit. It also has a rather horrible ending that test audiences hated. The theatrical version has a much better final scene that won't make you hate the ending.

5:39 every time I watch this movie and I see that Toy Truck I always saw that as foreshadowing Terminator 2: Judgment Day that didn't come out till 1991 After doing research: As the cyborg's stolen car rolls to a halt outside an average-looking house, the front tire crushes a small toy truck - foreshadowing a later action scene in which the Terminator commandeers an articulated truck during a chase.

1. Linda Hamilton ROCKED. She's really built in T2. "Terminator 2 Judgment Day" is the action movie GOAT. 2. Lance Henriksen/Vukovich, Michael Biehn/Reese and Bill Paxton/punk also played in "Aliens" as Bishop, Hicks and Hudson respectively. 3.We have limited AI now. So does China.😱😱 4. If this wasn't a movie the ammunition would not have been available on the gun shop counter. 5. Ginger's boyfriend Matt must be a lousy lay if she needs rock and roll to "rock and roll". 6. Watching people react to the eye operation is worth watching this all by itself. 7. THAT'S a bitch slap.

About your question involving Reese being John's father and the timelines my theory is that someone else presumably the man Sarah was dating was John originally John's Father but by traveling through time Reese and the Terminator created an alternate timeline leading to Reese being the father.

I saw THE TERMINATOR in 1994 when i was 8 years old. 30 years later one of my favorite scenes is when the T-800 bitch slaps Kyle. 🤣 2 facts about the movie. It had an incredibly low budget so low they ran out of money and multiply scenes were filmed illegally. Example last scene in the movie when Sarah drives off in the Jeep a highway patrol officer told them it was illegal to film without a permit they told him they were filming for class project.
