The skit at the beginning was fantastic, but for me the breakdown of the industry at the beginning was truly fascinating I know videos about the comic business don't usually do well but I'd love to see a Sal explains pivotal comic book decisions and how they impacted the industry. It is literally why comic book events and creative talent are forever intertwined with marketing and sales, it’s the reason things are fucked for comic book fans forever lol. Cutting off the Waid Cap run was awful....but let's face it, the other books were a mess. We had the "Teen Tony" thing, the Avengers were rough, Thor was baffling and FF still recovering from the too-long "Reed is dead" arc. If nothing else, thanks to Heroes Reborn, we got revival of Busiek on Avengers and Iron Man, Jurgens' Thor and others so they did need something to change things, they just went too far.
@Freefall347
@Freefall347 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Honestly, Jurgen's run on Thor is one of my favorites of all time. The Busiek run on Avengers was pretty amazing too. The Onslaught Saga was ridiculous, and even as it was being released, I thought it made no sense and was filled with ridiculous plot holes and contrivances, but I guess some house cleaning was in order at Marvel.

Great episode as always! I don’t know about anyone else but I’m always fascinated by how Sal describes the comic industry, it’s key players, and it’s state (like in the spawn episode for the creation of image, the maxx episode for context on Sam Keith’s ethos, and just random tidbits in different episodes). It provides valuable meta-context for why something as wild as Onslaught was allowed to be a thing. Congrats on the 400th, can’t wait to see what’s in store.

Episodes like Bendis Superman, HOX & POX, Coming of Galactus, Sword Of X... Each one out doing the one before... We again have a new Opus De Magnum... I have watched this episode at least 6 times, only came out a week ago. The skirt at the beginning deserves an Emmy nom. The industry breakdown is the greatest conversation of the post internet Era. Then the adventure through Onslaught itself was just the cherry on top of this caramel sundae in the form of a KZfaq vid. BRILLIANT!!!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

You don't need to worry about Onslaught now, or anything of Earth-616, because that continuity stopped being relevant with "One More Day". The history of Onslaught is a fucking roller-coaster and the behind the scenes of it is so much more interesting than the story itself. It ends up becoming a piece of metafiction about the flaws and failures of 90s comics. You have these huge massive scale epics that focus on these huge villains with big cool edgy designs and just how ultimately world endingly powerful but how That the Systems that brought about onslaught were also the systems that both on a meta and litteral sense could've ended the marvel universe as a whole. And how the heroes are fighting tooth and nail to if not able to save the marvel universe, do whatever they can with whatever they have left.

This episode is amazing! I've been hoping you would do Onslaught for years, and it's everything I ever hoped for. Some absolutely fantastic reactions from Tiffany starting at about the hour mark. I was sold at the opening sketch. Sorry you had to do this so may times over, but as the saying goes, third time's the charm. Eagerly awaiting Age of Apocalypse

Happy 400ish episodes of Back Issues and here’s to at least 400 more! I’ll say one thing for Onslaught, he is one cool image

Every time you flavor a comment with "it's happening... *over there* ..." my mind immediately completes that statement with Linkara's "... and *over there* must *take care of itself.* "

Sal! Loved the bit at the beginning! I would love to see the return of the skits. Like the Christmas special, for instance.
